Monte Cristo Golf & Country Club
About
Until the new Los Lagos club opened recently, Monte Cristo, previously known as Palacio, was the only 18-hole course in Edinburg. The name of the game here is dealing with the wind, which seems to always blow from the Gulf and makes the course much more difficult.
Getting there : Exit Monte Cristo off 281 south, then turn left and drive 2.5 miles to the course.

Good course, good price
Good course, staff friendly. When it's windy, watch out!!! Great to walk or ride. All the sand traps are out of commission, so more like ground under repair. Greens are fairly fast. Nice bar for a drink afterwards.
Rude Cashier
The guy at the cashier seriously lacks social skills. I’ve been there 3 times and every time I’ve been there he’s there; and he’s always in a bad mood. I take my son to practice in different courses, and I keep hoping someone else will be at the desk. Perhaps management should consider the lady in the kitchen area to take the front desk.
Great Day
On time tee time, course moved reasonably well despite heavy play. Greens and tees were good. Good value and would recommend this track.
Was very surprised that we had to pay cart fee. First time this happened there. Didn’t realize there had been a change. Doubt we will go that far to play there again.
5 some
Wife and i have golf here a few times and the pace of play has always been ok....except yesterday. We were behind a group of 5 and we had to wait at every hole. Not just a few minutes....on one hole we wait 10 mins.
The problem was a five some....it slows down play but it takes away from other people behind them....they were not keeping up to the group ahead of them and did not allow us to play thru. The group behind us stop play after waiting to long on the 10th tee.
We will play here again but will ask not to be behind a 5 some.
Make sure when you book the fee includes a cart. We were told after 12:00 the fee only includes green fees?
Needs work
This is not what we expected. Very flat, very unchallenging. Could be kept much better. All sand traps filled in. Wasn’t impressed at check in where we were asked for money for the round, then asked for money for the cart. I sure they would be used to Golfnow. Many winter Texans here that would appreciate a well kept course.
It’s always a great course
It’s one of my go to courses to play weekly. Always clean greens and fairways
Great RGV course for fun
The course is in really good shape and the staff couldn’t be better to assist and welcome golfers of all capabilities. Easy layout and fairways make it a great place for beginners to enjoy the game. Check out the newly opened snack shack that serves great brisket along with hamburgers and hotdogs, make it a combo for the value of your money! It’s available on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday during lunchtime.

Excellent value for your money! The greens are fast, plenty of trees if you get off the fairways, water traps on par 3s. Just take some bug spray, mosquitoes are bad , I think it’s because they water a lot. Try not to play on a windy day, if you do, GOOD LUCK!
Could be better....
Ribbon-tapes-ropes whatever, around fairways and greens (some over a 100 yds from greens) give the place a Mickey Mouse look.
Fairways n greens in v good condition.
Brutal day
Easy course, fairways in good conditions. No actual bunkers, greens aren’t in very great shape. The worst part was that it’s absolutely INFESTED with mosquitos. Every, single, hole. Couldn’t go more than a minute without swatting my entire body in hopes to keep them off. It was a quick round thankfully, but the mosquitos were bad enough to NEVER want to come back.
Good value
Place of play excellent greens in good shape for the valley
Flat decent course
Some challenging par three holes some surrounded by water. Flat course with coarse grass fairways. Lots of random trees that can be trouble sometimes. Greens are in decent winter shape. Good value for the cost!
