Monte Cristo Golf & Country Club
About
Until the new Los Lagos club opened recently, Monte Cristo, previously known as Palacio, was the only 18-hole course in Edinburg. The name of the game here is dealing with the wind, which seems to always blow from the Gulf and makes the course much more difficult.
Getting there : Exit Monte Cristo off 281 south, then turn left and drive 2.5 miles to the course.

Good all around course.
Course is in good condition, some holes are tougher than others.
Overall, it is one of my favourites in the Rio Grande Valley.
Great course
Greens were fast, great course for amateurs. For the price, I dare you to find a better value. A lot of people play early so they game may be slow, but it’s worth it!
Good economical course
The greens can be somewhat mini golf like if the pin placement is the same as today. Fairways are wide and flat so the ball gets lots of roll. Several holes have water hazards making some of the par threes a challenge! The course plays relatively easy as long as you keep your ball in play. Overall, the course provides good value for your green fee !
Mediocre at best
Snagged a Hot Deal for $12...glad it wasn’t anymore. Course is in okay condition at best. Layout is less than impressive. I drove almost 2 hours because the reviews were so solid for this course, but I don’t completely understand why. The course isn’t in bad shape, the greens roll nicely and some of the fairways are OK.
No one on the course at all on Saturday, played 18 by myself in the car in just under two hours.
great value
course is in good shape. greens have improved greatly no dead spots all green and smooth. great course for the price paid.
Great greens, good value for your money
Greens were in excellent conditions, pace of play was really good. The driving range really needs some work to do. Overall I'd recommend this course.
Fun course
Had a great time, there was nobody behind us so the pace of play was perfect. The course is not difficult, very open. The greens were well kept, would have been fast but we did get some rain.
Great Drainage, Good Greens
I played this two days after they received over 5 inches of rain that caused them to close the day before. 2 days removed from a major rain storm and the course only had 1, maybe 2 puddles that I could recall. It rained pretty good while I was on holes 3&4 but still no puddles on the course.
I will say, the front 9 greens were way more consistent than the back 9. But overall they were in good shape! 7.5 out of 10. Had a great time, friendly staff. Of only they had new facilities. The clubhouse smelled throughout the entire building and the driving range needs a revamp.
Short, but thank goodness!
First, the greens were PERFECT. Very consistent from 1-18.
The layout is good, visually it is very nice. Back nine was very different with 4 par 3’s and 3 par 5’s - yes, that means only 2 par 4’s :).
It is shorter than I normally play, but, but, the wind - I thought we were on the west side of Maui! Thank goodness it is short, the wind make accuracy and distance into the wind very difficult.
However, the excellent greens and fairways make scrambling easy.
I enjoyed the round very much.
