Until the new Los Lagos club opened recently, Monte Cristo, previously known as Palacio, was the only 18-hole course in Edinburg. The name of the game here is dealing with the wind, which seems to always blow from the Gulf and makes the course much more difficult.
Getting there : Exit Monte Cristo off 281 south, then turn left and drive 2.5 miles to the course.

Driving range was looking pretty rough, didn’t look taken care of. The course itself wasn’t terrible, but the carts need to be inspected better before put in use or fixed in the long run. The straps that hold your clubs in did not tightened at all when I put my clubs on the cart. I must have not paid attention well enough to notice it. After I tee’d off on hole 1 I went to take off & my clubs fell straight on the concrete from the strap not holding in the latch whatsoever. Scratched up multiple of my clubs & was very upsetting. Pay attention to this so it doesn’t happen to you.
Great Course
Overall great course. Lots of straights. Clean greens. Can't really complain. Wish they had food options during the week. Other than that I loved it.

Having played the .course a number of times of late, I have to say the course layout while quirky, I e. Back nine of 4 par 3's and 3 par 5's, is actually a enjoyable test. The course is pretty solid in it's maintenance; fairways are green and well maintained. Also, glad to see the quality of the greens improving. So if you are seeking a fun course to play that is fairly open give MC a whirl. If you are like me, you'll likely find the place a pleasant test. My biggest gripe: the practice range is in tatters and does the course no favors stuck between holes 9 and 18.

We are dealing with drought conditions that are beyond control. Fortunately the greens were still able to be kept in good condition. Hope they get some rain!
I brought my munchkin with me and it was great.
I decided the bring my daughter today which is 5 years old. Staff was super nice to us and even showed her attention. The marshal even gave her a ball. The play was slow due to a full course but that allowed us to take our time. Besides the old guys playing up on us. It was a great time.
Greta course
Course was pretty good shape. Downfall is the groups of 5 that hold up the whole course even with a Marshall present. As many as three groups backed up on one hole just sure to poor golf ethics by the “5”some two holes ahead
