Monte Cristo Golf & Country Club
About
Until the new Los Lagos club opened recently, Monte Cristo, previously known as Palacio, was the only 18-hole course in Edinburg. The name of the game here is dealing with the wind, which seems to always blow from the Gulf and makes the course much more difficult.
Getting there : Exit Monte Cristo off 281 south, then turn left and drive 2.5 miles to the course.

Good coarse
Play was good. Fairways were a little dry, but all else was good. Had enough water and grass hazards to make it challenging.
Great Course for the price
Had a lot of fun playing. A group let me play through which was nice. Older carts but the seats were good and were pretty quick. Didn't have range balls when I showed up but said they might on other days. Course layout was good with a fair amount of water hazards. A nice little island par 3 toward the end of the back 9 makes for a unique hole. Lots of jackrabbits. Overall a fun course to play and I'll be coming back.
Good course.
I like the course. More open for begginer type golfers with a few water traps and grass traps to offer a challenge on several holes. Greens are in good shape. Fairways were a little dry and cut a bit short. Makes for a good roll after shot.
VERY PLAYABLE
Kudos to management. We are in the beginning of winter months and to see the greens very green and now to see the fairways green as well with better grass/sod, fairway shots and putting surfaces are enjoyable. The upkeep and care of the course has made the golf round good for practicing several types of shots. We played in wet weather so the golf ball was sticking on all shots.
Staff?
I stood at the pro shop desk for 10 min. No one to be found. Went out and talked to the guy cleaning carts and just said he’s around somewhere. Went back in and behold he was there gave me a slip and that was it. I paired myself up with a two some behind me. Course is fairly easy not much trouble.
Awesome course! We play here 2-4 times a month. Very easy to check in and just love the layout.
Golf Day
Course is in good shape, would be nice if the sand traps had sand in them. Over all a very enjoyable course and the staff is very friendly.
First 9 holes
I enjoyed the course, especially since it was my first time playing there. I recommend being cautious on the front nine, as there are houses near the fairways. The back nine is more open, allowing you to really let loose with your shots.
Great value, tight course with a bunch of hazards but short so you don’t need driver on many holes. 5 par 3’s and they are all a little tricky.
