Monte Cristo Golf & Country Club
About
Until the new Los Lagos club opened recently, Monte Cristo, previously known as Palacio, was the only 18-hole course in Edinburg. The name of the game here is dealing with the wind, which seems to always blow from the Gulf and makes the course much more difficult.
Getting there : Exit Monte Cristo off 281 south, then turn left and drive 2.5 miles to the course.

Nice coarse in good shape
I had the first tee time and played in 2 hours I will be back
Needs work
Course was in decent shape but the tee boxes needed work and they have "grass bunkers". Also they aren't up to date with USGA ratings. Tried to enter my score on GHIN and course isn't active.
Great course
Monte Cristo was as good as asvertised. This golf course is in great condition, even with our current dry and nasty summer heat wave. The clean fareways, consistent greens, and swift pace of play make it a great place to go play golf. The staff is friendly, but drive your cart into restricted areas and you'll get on their bad side. I like this, because it helps to keep this course in great shape, unlike others in the Valley.
Fun Course But Not Great
The course was fun to play, but the fairways layout was a bit strange. Also, they don’t let you drive off the sidewalk on 3 par holes and unnecessary block off driving to a large portion of the holes near the green. I had to walk more in this course than any other course I’ve played on. I don’t mind walking, but it is time consuming. Someone, who I assume was the groundskeeper, yelled at us for driving around the green around the ropes. We made sure to stay far away from the green and only stayed in rough areas. The man could have nicely asked us to refrain from doing that but he yelled at us very rudely. We’re all adults, no need to treat us like that. The man in the pro shop was very helpful and nice though. I also like how they had someone selling drinks throughout the course.
Great value
Course in great condition, dude in clubhouse was not friendly and sarcastic for the 2nd time in a row. Carts condition wasn’t great.
Fairways and tee boxes a little rough
Odd layout, conditions weren’t great…but the rate was reasonable and I didn’t see anyone around me while I played so the pace was great!
Bad-THEN GOOD
Course had been airarated big klumps of dirt in fair ways. Greens were good
Regulations
The tape and curbing that restrictions access to the greens is extremely too far from the greens. There really is a waste renting a cart. Restrictions are 50 plus yards from the greens. You nearly walk more than you ride. There is no leeway for handicapped or elderly players. This could almost considered discrimination.
Enjoyed Monte Cristo, so sad it isn’t offered anymore. Even though it’s a bit of a drive to get to, we enjoyed playing there.
