Sawmill Creek Golf & Racquet Club

About
Sawmill Creek Golf Resort & Spa sits along the banks of Lake Huron with Sarnia to the East and London just 45 minutes west. The course has a links-style layout that stretches to 6,782 yards from the back tees. Designed by Rene Muylaert, the creation of the golf course required over a million tons of earth to be moved to the site. It was then molded and shaped into rolling terrain that offers a tough but fair test. The namesake creek comes into play on 13 holes and there are also several strategically placed bunkers that lurk beside the greens. There are some tricky holes but it's not overly punishing to the high handicapper. In addition to the golf course, Sawmill Creek also has a driving range available for warming up.

As soon as we got to the course we were told that we may not be able to make it to 18 holes because they had a large group of twenty and to go to hole 10 after hole 1. We were told to be done by 7:30.
Great course but damage on the back nine
The course was fun and was in good condition except for the back nine that looks like it sustained a great deal of flood/water damage
Cart paths
Course was in great shape. Cart paths are another story.
Best I’ve played in Northern Ohio
First time playing out here after looking online for a long time. Got paired up with 3 guys was a bit worried about pace of play with two foursomes ahead of us, we didn’t wait one time. Starter was fantastic none of our foursome had played there before he gave us some great tips and overall layout of the course.
For the storm rolling through the night before, the grounds crew had done an amazing job to make it playable despite several large trees down. Starter told us the greens would be “slower than normal” and they still flew. Tees, fairways, greens awesome, beer was cheap. Can’t wait to come back and play again. Well done sawmill.
Big Greens @ Sawmill
Thanx to GN for Hot Deals special, got paired up with nice young fellow. Our pace of play was great, course in great shape, and as usual, the greens are most challenging.. I played the front9 well, but 10-13 are tough; #12 Hallway Hole par5 requires prayers for GiR & then 2putts to par. I didn't lose the ball, but still made my usual Dblebogie. The next hole #13 par3 is tough, especially with pin in back top of tilted green. Sawmill has 4 of best par3s, not long, but club selection & wind is key to score. Of course that is true on every hole, especially with such large greens. Pro shop staff very nice and workers on course raking bunkers & trimming. I'll be back to redeem back9 score.
Sawmill Creek -- Largest Greens You'll Play
Course in great shape, greens are smooth & fast, bunkers well maintained, and drainage improvement to holes 12&13. Speaking of hallway hole #12, I hit the ball well, put me down for a 7 .....go to the next monster green GiR & 4putts for another Dblebogie. This day has CPO due to heavy rains yesterday, which usually leads to slow play, but my 2some cruised thru in <3hrs (couple 4somes let us thru). Remodeled clubhouse & deck is nice setting for beverage & snack after round. Thanx to GN for Hot Deals ..... I'll be back to conquer the back9.
Good course
Most greens are amped up and tricky to putt. There are 10 holes I like, the rest are meh. Price is too much also.
Nice Course
This course has improved dramatically since Cedar Fair bought it a few years ago. Staff is friendly and course is in excellent condition. Layout is flat and kind of boring, but greens are elevated, large and challenging. This course has plenty of teeth to challenge good golfers, but is playable for those with less skills.
Great course.
The greens are flawless. Bunkers played well, and Jennifer at the bar can set you up with an awesome burger. First time playing the course, played with a couple of local guys they gave me the ins and outs and where to hit it so that made it easier. I would highly recommend this course. Oh, did I mention the two dollar beers in the pro shop. Can’t go wrong with this place.
Facilities and course were in much better shape than they were a couple years ago. Cart paths are still a little rough.
I think this is going to be an excellent course.
Fast and flawless greens
Great staff, very attentive and friendly. The course is in awesome shape. If you’d like to roll your rock, this is the place……..challenging but perfect greens.
Great conditions, great value and terrific staff
I was impressed with the quality and conditions of this course at the price point on Golf Now. Upon entering the parking lot a staff member brought a cart directly to my car and welcome me to the Course. Good first impression.
The clubhouse is small, but friendly staff, and got me onto the first T within a few minutes of my arrival. That’s where the fun began. This course is flat, but each hole seems separate from the other. You don’t often see the other holes as you’re playing.
A couple of holes have water and rare elevation changes, but the conditions are so immaculate and perfect that you think you’re playing on a course that should cost two or three times as much.
Would highly recommend this course, and in fact, I’m playing it again today
Alright
The course is under new ownership (Cedar Fair) so I am hopeful for the future. I was rushing to the there from church on Father's Day. I called to advise I would be there right before tee time. I spoke with Barb and she was very pleasant and reassuring. When I arrived, in a rush she helped me buy just two sleeves of golf balls instead of whole box, knowing it was cost prohibitive.
The front 9 went over pretty well. The course is pretty "what you see is what you get" The greens could be fun if they get up to speed, but they seemed kinda sticky and overwatered to me given that we have been in a bit of a drought stretch.
We played as a two-some with a few two-somes in front of us. We played the front in in under two hours. Good pace. Good rhythm. Allowed us to stay get a feel for the round. That all changed on hole 10.
We proceed to play the next 8 holes in about 3 hours and drove off after tapping in on hole #17 because we had another engagement to attend.
According to the two-somes ahead of us there was a foursome about 3 or 4 groups ahead of us that refused to let anyone play through.
While there was a starter and ranger (I saw him on hole 7 checking in on pace), apparently NO ONE said anything to this group.
Entire round ruined.
Conditioning and layout was very average for a course to be charging $60+ a round.
I am hopeful that Cedar Point (Fair) will pile some money into this resort because a world class park like Cedar Point deserves to have a world class golf resort and lodging experience in addition to Hotel Breakers (in the park).
I probably won't be playing again for a few years. As I said, I remain hopeful, but very average.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback about our golf course under new ownership. We are glad to hear that Barb was able to assist in a time of need and that the front 9 played well. We apologize for the pace of play being affected by a slow foursome on the back 9, and we hope to improve the course's conditions with future investments to provide a better experience for our guests.
We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced during your visit to our golf course. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review and we will do our best to address this issue. Thank you.
