The Grizzly Golf & Social Lodge - Grizzly Course
About
The Grizzly Course is a collaboration between Jack Nicklaus and Desmond Muirhead. Since opening in 1972, this challenging layout has been host to numerous PGA, LPGA, and Senior PGA events. The golf course features long, curvy fairways lined with towering trees and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout. The three final holes feature water hazards, which are also accompanied by a difficult array of bunkers. It offers a fair amount of difficult holes but overall the course is playable for a range of skill levels, which is why it is an appealing layout for tournaments. In addition to the two courses, the Golf Center also boasts an 11,000-square foot putting green and an Academy Course with four championship holes.
Also known as The City of Mason Golf Center - Grizzly Course.

stacked up on fairway! #Grizzly Photo submitted by todski26 on 11/12/2012
Grizzly bit us
Course was in impeccable condition right down to the sand in the traps. Our twosome was paired with two singles. One of which was a high school team player who apparently was taught to take a lot of time on his practice swing which he did so to the point of getting us a slow play warning. Other than this the pace of play was great. I was glad the ranger was gracious enough to warn us. I was surprised in a few instances stray tee balls could be an issue on the next adjoining tee box (i.e.: par 3 green to black tee box of next hole), not a big deal but did have an instance of concern. Overall with golfnow hot deals will be back even though a 1 and a 1/2 hour drive to play here.
The Grizzly
The Grizzly offers great deals through GolfNow for 18 holes. Overall, it is a course that is kept in good shape, offers a challenge and a good time to golfers.
Regulars Ruined the Day
It's clear a lot of regulars hit the course through the week. Our tee time was held up due to the group in front of us. When we finally were about ready to tee off, a group of old gentleman immediately began pressuring us to hurry up and got very frustrated, even though we told them we were held up due to the group in front of us. The starter witnessed the entire thing and laughed it off.
Throughout our round, we went as quickly as we could- but again got held up from time to time due to the group in front of us. The guys were breathing down our necks the whole round and made us feel very rushed. We had a ranger frequently following us and made us feel as though the staff care more about their regulars than their new guests.
Greens were in terrible condition! They need water!
Likely won't be back.
First time out
I normally only post conditions, but this is the first time I've Played here. This course was built for the time of persimmon woods, and blades. While this isn't a very long track, 6500 from the tips, it does defend itself with narrow fairways, and a few doglegs. If you hit a shot long you could find yourself ob, as the markers are fairly close to many of the greens. It's not a hard course, if you hit it all over the place you could get in trouble.
Conditions were good, fairways and rough were in good shape. Greens were rolling about ten, they did have Poa on them, but it didn't effect anything. Bunkers were well maintained, so you can be consistent if you find yourself in one. They have not punched the greens yet.
This course is challenging but enjoyable.
The course was in great shape. It was a great deal.
I will definitely play again.
Kings Island Grizzly Course
Since it was mid March the Kings Island Grizzly Course was in descent shape, but play was slow. Since I was a single the pro shop paired me with a couple only playing nine. So when starting the back nine, I tried to play with someone, but was unable to find anyone. So I only got play 4 of the 9 holes. All in all I had fun and enjoyed playing the course. The pro shop manager did tell me they plan to make improvements with the help of Jack Nicklaus.
Very nice round.
We got luck that the weather cooperated in February. A lot of people out, but the course did a nice job keeping everyone moving. Course was in pretty good shape for this early. Most of the bunkers were soft. Greens seemed consistent.
Other players
Few players have filled divots with sand or repaired ball marks on the greens. Maybe because of the time of year or it seems many just don't care. This is a great course in lesser condition. I hope it's just the time of year.
Great course
Very nice course, love the layout. Gave the course condition only 3 stars because it is February, green are slow and bumpy. If it was in season, the course is always in great shape. Love coming here to golf. Number 9 on West is a very fun hole.
Nice layout
The course layout is great. The grass was spotty in places from the heat. And also the fairway and rough were long because of recent rain.
Mr. CLark Cowan
Course is always FUN!!!!
Challenging for mid handicappers
But great for all golfers...
Straight forward
No gimmicks. The shot you see is the shot you need.
Somewhat Disappointed in course conditions
Drove 90 miles from Columbus to play due to excellent Golf Now deal. I wouldn't pay the regular rates to play as tee boxes and green were worse than your typical Muni Course. Bumpy and burned out in spots.
I'm sure the course was in much nicer condition back in the day when they had LPGA and Sr. events on it. They layout is nice and for the amount of people on the course the pace was nice, ~ 4 hours. Service and Clubhouse are still in good condition and in line for their normal rates.
I'm surprised with the decline in the course conditions they are still allowed to use the Nicklaus name.
Great course and value
Had a great time. Staff was great and the course was in good shape. Greens were excellent. Could probably improve the posted directions from green to next tee box.
Great Course
Unbelievable price to play this great course!
Favorite Course
I play this course anytime they pop up on GolfNow. Definitely my favorite course in the area. Well maintained and just enjoyable to play. Staff isn't the friendliness as they usually rush you through the check in process. Otherwise you will not go wrong playing this course. Love it!!!
amazing
I have played oakmont, winged foot, and pinehurst. This course beat them all. Even the greens were better than oakmonts.
All Good!!!
Great golf course and the restaurant & entertainment is first class!!!
