So much for incredible!
I returned to this course because of how beautiful it was the last time I played and how everyone was so friendly. Before I play any course, I always check the dress code to find out if I have to wear a collared shirt. There was no indication on Hanover country Club's website about a dress code, but that didn't keep the head Pro from yelling from about 50 feet away on the 4th tee, that I needed to have a collared shirt on! When I play any course I expect a certain level of professionalism, which was completely lacking in this situation!
Just Amazing!
This course could rival the best courses in Virginia like Kingsmill or Royal New Kent because of the undulation of its Fairways and greens! I was shocked to find a course this close to Richmond that was as hilly as this one is! I thoroughly enjoyed playing today!...and definitely plan to return.
Almost there.
This course is right on the cusp of being fantastic. Greens are great and the tightness of the course makes a nice challenge. Unfortunately the bunkers are in horrible shape as well as a few fairways.
Not maintained, narrow fairways, but if you like
If you like narrow fairways with overhanging tree limbs, if you like hazard areas butting up to greens, if you like hitting 200 ft high uphill onto hard pan and watch your ball roll back down hill, if you like the course to only have ball washers at 1st and 10th tee boxes, if you like consistently barren tee boxes, and if you having a 5-some of loud teenagers to contend with, this is the course for you. The greens rolled pretty well and true and that was the only thing enjoyable. No, I won't be back.
The front nine is vastly different from the back, including weird and wild elevation changes. But other than that it was a fun round.
Use to Love this Course
The fairways are dead and I don't think they can be revived. While the greens are in ok shape the fairways to me are lost. Probably because of all the rain this year and last. I spent the day hitting off of muddy dead pan. When it came to chipping around the greens I just could not get under the ball, no grass. I really hope the staff can turn it around, it is a fun and challenging course to play. Will be back if they can save the fairways. Great food in the club house and staff is very friendly.
Don't waste your time....
There is nothing green on the course except the greens.
The fairways don't have a lot of grass...
The tee boxes don't have a lot of grass...
The course could really really be good if they took care of some things.
There is NO WAY you can rate this course 4-star! No way!
Course needs help...
The only green part of this course are the greens and the yards of the people that live there. Fairways needs grass...
Tee boxes need grass...
This place would be really nice because the course layout is tough.
Currently not worth more than $20
Really really hope this course gets turned around in the right direction.
Good course, great greens, decent price, friendly staff
It was nice to play a course in the Richmond area that isn't a swamp, so I guess the drainage here is pretty good. The greens were great! Fairways on the front weren't great, but they got better on the back and again not a swamp. Layout was decent, one hole had to be an 80ft incline. Staff was very friendly and pace of play was good. I would definitely play here again
Fun course with great views
This was my first time playing Hanover Golf Club and I was thoroughly impressed. The greens were in fantastic shape compared to other courses in the area. There were scenic landscapes, including great views of the South Anna River. If you're looking for a nice course to play with friends, check HGC out!
Good course
Golf course conditions are very good. Most of the bunkers in the curse have been re built over the last two years. Others complain about the range- well after the redisign the range is located at the former site of an uphill golf hole making it strange but usable. The design itself is good with the exception of 11 and twelve. These two holes would be good stand alone holes but they are built adjacent to each other so if you slice or push your ball you might end up playing the 11th from the 12th fairway and vice versa. I would rate the condition of the fairways and tees very good with the greens in excellent condition. The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent at the remodelled restaurant. This is not a highlight course but a good one that I would highly recomend.
Unimpressed.
I had heard this was a nice course and was looking forward to playing here. Arrived hour ahead of time and went to (driving range)? Not sure if it was a driving range or an open field with a couple flags. Putting green was decent but some bare spots. Tee boxes pretty good, fairways good, greens were not good. I believe they lost them earlier this year and they are coming back. Greens were fast and bumpy and I don't think they rolled true. I'm not a great putter but partners say i read greens well and was baffled at some of the breaks the balls took. Not a pleasant experience.
A Ruined Gem
The new design is an abomination and disgraces the legacy the old design spent 46 years building. The driving range is a joke and aesthetically appears forced. The signature par-3 is gone. The best par-4 in central VA is gone. When I saw the new 12th and13th holes, I puked. This course used to be a diamond in the rough and a true joy to play. Now, it's just depressing. Thanks HM!
Nice greens - but alas ....that's about all
From the minute we walked into the pro shop, the staffs attitude was marginal. Was actually asked "Why did you book on GolfNow instead of just calling for a tee time" ... Really?
Then when heading to the first tee, we wanted a couple of bottles of water. The response was "we don't take cash ... this is a private club"
Had played here before, and decided to give it another chance. The greens were quite nice - but that's about all. Sadly this is last time I will be playing here. With the rolling hills, and location out in horse country, it could be a nice facility.
The back nine left something to be desired
We came through a "member for a day" promotion from GolfNow. Overall this course was pretty decent. The front is pretty fun. Different terrain and types of holes. Holes 10 and 11 are also pretty good. Then you get to hole 12, you look around, and there are just dozens of golfers all around because the next 5 holes are all jammed right together, and all with narrow fairways. And these are not great caliber golfers here either. So we had to wait for several people to play through our fairways before we could play. This is also where we started waiting because the holes were getting backed up. The other thing I didn't like is how the yardage is marked. Markers are difficult to find during course play. If the "member for a day" promo was to try and intice newcomers, I would have to say I would not join this club. But if you want to try something new it's worth a round just for variety.
