Challenging and well maintained
Very challenging and well kept course. One of the best public courses in the northern Virginia area. Can be a little bit packed but still worth it for the price.
5+ Hours on a Saturday Thanks to Hacking Millenials
I play this course fairly regularly, but rarely on Saturdays. I should have listened to my inner voice about that yesterday because it was painfully slow. There were two groups of complete hacker millennials who held up the entire course. They were driving on the greens (no exaggeration!), had two holes open in front of them throughout the back nine, and blared their horrible music throughout. I'm no Judge Smells here, but I called the pro shop to have someone come out and move them along. Much like the PC-culture that permeates everything right now, no one had the guts to pull these jokers from the course or ask them to move along quicker. Buyer beware...charging $76 for 18 with a cart and then having hacks ruin the atmosphere and tempo of the game was a bit much. I've played much better courses for $70+ and had much better greens and far better pace of play. Please fix your prices, greens, and pace of play especially on the weekends.

After just finishing the 10th hole on the Oaks, our group (4 players w/one players’ son caddying for his father) was approached by the marshal. The marshal incorrectly assumed two players were playing out of the same bag (father & caddy son) and as such also incorrectly assumed it was causing us to play slow. We informed him that a players’ son was only caddying for his father and we were in fact keeping up with the foursome directly in front of us. He insisted we allow a single player behind us to play through.
This wouldn’t have been an issue if there wasn’t another foursome directly in front of us who also seemed to be on pace for a four-hour round. The marshal willfully put the foursome in front of us into the same predicament as our foursome which I suspect resulted in slowing the pace of both foursomes that had been keeping pace. A minor grip but I’m unsure whether this was the most logical course of action…

Great Course
I would rate it 5 stars if it wasn't for the flag guy coming up to me on 18 and harassing us 2 about pace of play. He said we were on pace for 3hr20mins but we should have done it quicker. Did he even realize that there was a group of 3 in front of us. We waited at every tee for them to clear before hitting?. That was only one of the instances where he disturbed us.

Enjoyable Round With One Minor Exception...
As always, the staff was friendly and professional & the fairways and greens were in decent shape. I’ve been playing at Twin Lakes since the early 1980’s however, I have to admit that in all that time I’ve never experienced the rough so… well, appropriately named. The Oaks “Rough of Woe” had to be nearly 5 inches deep and thick as glue. Trying to get out of it was like being trapped with a life insurance salesman in a room without doors or windows and no hope of escape. If you’re going to allow the rough to get so deep and thick than might I suggest course rental options for English Pointer’s, golf balls with embedded tracking devices, iguana sticks or Weed Wacker’s?

Great Layout
Twin Lakes - Oaks Course is beautiful, very challenging and long - over 6,300 yds from the white tees. It’s rough is always long, lush and therefore penal. Overall, the Course is very challenging. There was an aerification alert when I played, so greens were extremely bumpy. I enjoy the challenge of courses that require long, straight shots. If you don’t/can’t it it straight, then try it’s sister Lakes course.
