Going North to play South
I drive about 45 minutes to play this course for two reasons, reasonably priced and in good condition. During the week, pace of play is determined by time of day. Yesterday we teed off at noon and finished in 2:30 hours. Greens were fine, fairways cut, but the sand traps hadn't been racked after rain the previous night. That's always an issue here because there isn't a consistent effort to maintain the traps. Overall it's worth the drive to play a senior friendly course.
Always fun to play
Whenever I play bowling Green its an enjoyable round of golf.. Not a long course so its good for all golfers on every level
Great Price, Nice course
Jumped on great price deal for impromptu round of golf with wife. $28 for both rounds with cart!! Even if we had only gotten in 9 holes, this was a killer deal. Course was in good condition though rough was REALLY deep at some junctures on the course to the point where we found a slew of balls just a few feet out of the fairways. Seems to be a locals course based on clientele. Was disappointed though in the snack bar as service was pretty slow.
Highly advocate getting in on the special rates since it's almost impossible to play for less anywhere in the VA/WV/MD/ areas.
Great for the money especially hot time deal
Course was nice and clean only need was the tee boxes need a shorts cut and greens need a lil work but will play there several more time this year.
Nice pace of play
Course is in good condition for early season status. Pace of plenty moved nice and finished 18 holes in 3 1/2 hours. Great course for novice and advanced golfers alike.
Great day on the links despite the staff lecture
I would like to highlight the positives first and then a rant! The course was in excellent shape for this early in the year. The greens were running pretty quickly and it was obvious that some work had been put into the course to have it play this nicely. Fairways were lush but well manicured and every aspect of the course was top notch. I would play here again the next time we are passing through. Overall a 4 1/2 to 5 star course.
Now for my rant. My wife and I were celebrating our 15th anniversary by taking an impromptu road trip, playing golf on our way south from PA. When the weather for the day looked promising, I booked an extremely discounted fee ($13 each with cart) on lastminutegolfer.com. We arrived about an hour and 15 mins.early, and when we checked in with the staff in the office, the starter immediately started giving us a hard time about being early and not to expect any special treatment since we only paid $13. He was borderline irate that we would ask to get out earlier than our tee time (despite the fact there were only 7 cars in the parking lot and the starter sheet laying on the desk clearly showed nobody with a tee time before ours). I weathered the verbal storm for a few minutes hearing how the golf course would only get a few dollars for my round (I still don't understand how this was any of his concern unless he is working on commission) and how unfair it is that some patrons pay $45 for the same course (again, this is something he needs to take up with the people responsible for the rates listed on the website). I finally just turned and began to walk away figuring my putting could use a quality 75 min session on the practice green when the other person in the office gave us a key to a cart and told us to go ahead and start play when we were ready. The starter then got real helpful informing us about a $9 replay rate on the North course and giving us a fairly detailed overview of the best way to play the south course????? We played the entire round having never seen another golfer for the whole day!
Go with the Green-Northern that is
This course is laid out nicely. Several years back I played it and I was disappointed with the overall condition. Very much improved. I like the South course too but the north course is more challenging and just a good solid course to play. If you have not played in a few years, as the scott says, "Gooo Plaaay!" Just one tip, the greens were slow this time of year and I had a difficult time trying to hit it hard enough to carry to the hole. Missed way to many putts and that makes me a putts.
Better than expected
It is not the longest course but there is opportunity for bogey or worse on most holes. The fairways were in great shape and the greens putted true with good speed. It is definitely on my play more often list.
Bowling Green South
Enjoyed the course really like the fairways and greens.
Nice views and a great price
This is a decent course which was in good condition. The greens rolled true but not overly fast. Course was a fair drive from where we were staying but with a hot deal it was an excellent value. Overall rating would be 3.5
Greens were in relatively good condition.
Quick, easy and relaxed round. Greens in relatively good condition for this time of year (it's been very dry). Bunkers have a lot of clay and stones so best to avoid.
refjoe
course was in good shape. greens in excellent shape. only problem with course was the cart paths need to be re-done. They are very torn up.
Tough rough
The greens were fine. The fairways are rather narrow and if you miss them, the rough is thick and it is hard to advance the ball far most of the time. It was fun, but the challenges are more common on the back nine.
The course is great for the average golfer
Great price, friendlily staff, course in average shape, the greens were very nice,
A pleasant experience
The course was in excellent shape especially the greens. As a twosome, we moved along at a steady pace and finished 18 holes in 3 hours with noone in front of us. We have played here for many years and it seems to improve each year. You can't beat the very reasonable fees.
Nice Course
We played the South Course and since there is no water we thought it would be easy. But the undulating fairways and greens and the trees make this course a good challenge.
Worth a look
My first, but surely not the last, visit to this little gem of a course. Yes, it's short, less than 6000 yds from the blues but you had better be accurate off the tee. Solid rows of trees line one or both sides of most fairways. The rough, while not especially long, makes the fairways more narrow than one would think looking from the tees. It is also the type that eats wayward balls. If you don't track every shot you could easily lose a ball that you would think should be playable.
Most of the greens are well guarded by sand or contouring so your approach shots should not be taken lightly. The greens were in excellent shape and actually putted like they read, no trick breaks due to grain or optical illusion. My only caveat is one that unfortunately is all too common: inconsiderate golfers who do not repair their pitch marks.
If I were forced to make a critical comment, the only thing I can come up with is there are too many blind shots due to the contours of the land. Players can get lost in some of the valleys and are subject to the impatience of following players plus it's difficult to get a line on the next shot.
Amenities are nothing to shout about. Pro shop is very limited and the grill almost does not exist. This is a course that is for players whose only concern is chasing a little white (yellow?) orb around the countryside for a few hours and soaking up some rays.
All in all, I feel this side of Bowling Green has much to offer for the average golfer.
No water but still some difficult holes
If you play the course, and not yourself or friends, it should give you pretty good results.
great price
Got this on the hot deal. Good course for 10$. Wouldnt play unless it was a hot deal
