The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage
About
Hollows Golf Club boasts three unique nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. Conveniently, the greens fees are applicable all day, which gives you the opportunity to try out all three. The nines: Cottage, Lake, and Road, are varied enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels. The Lake/Cottage combination features the most water of the three golf courses. The Lake nine wraps around a massive lake, the centerpiece of the 27-hole course. There are also a few small ponds that come into play on the front nine. The Cottage nine only has water on the third hole but this tough par 3 leaves a lasting impression. It is the Cottage's signature hole that not only features water but also an 8-foot deep bunker on the left.

Cottage/road
Cottage good shape , road course needs work. Didn't get to play Lakes which is favorite. Crowded but pace always good here with multiple layouts. Cottage narrow and short . Road more open and Lakes most unique. Overall short course . Just nice comfortable course. Laid back , country feel with very nice nineteeth hole .
Welcome back
Haven't played here in a few months, nice little drive but always a fun day here. Staff very accomadating , great pace of play and course always good condition. Earlier review , mr bluejeans , sorry played here numerous times and never saw attire issues with anyone and have never seen a five some.they do have a very good senior association that plays a shotgun start every Monday and the ladies start early one day a week, but if have tee time anytime after ten have never had an issue with pace . My only question is the three course nines, always figured could choose but one course is almost always closed for maintenance when we play so are always directed to two other courses. Strange thing is the lakes , which I think is the nicest of the three is never closed. Does have a great country feel. Current conditions good, only issue is large standing water in numerous traps, but understandable with all the rain. Knickers is a great place for beer after round .
Great Shape!
The course, the restaurant and bar, were all in excellent condition. Great place to play.
Mr Bluejeans
If you like playing golf with people dressed in bluejeans, this is the course for you. Yes, this is out of the way as far as location is concerned, and the cart paths are dirt and gravel, but a decent pair of pants should be required. The course was in nice shape, greens fast, fairways in great shape. Tee boxes were spotty, but not bad. If you like 5 somes, this is for you as well, saw at least 2. While they did not slow me down, its still just not what one should expect when spending $40 for a round of golf.
Amazing
I was so amazed by how the course was. The greens were the best that I have ever played on. Despite getting soaked due to the rain it couldn't stop me from finishing. This course is a must play!!!!
Pleasant day in Hanover
Great weather and very enjoyable round of golf. Last minute decision with aide of Golfnow.
Great paced round of golf.
Played in a foursome in just under 4 hours. Course was in good shape. Not the longest course either. About 6000 yards. Wish more courses were set up at that length. Guys I played with were friendly. Will play there again.
Not to bad of a course
Course was in pretty good shape but the greens need some work as they are the slowest and most inconsitant greens I think I have ever putted on. Tee box to the greens where in good shape but the greens issue is what got me the most.
Return to The Hollows
The was my first day back to the game of golf in over two years. The Hollows provides a great challenge, with multiple water and sand hazards. The greens are not flat (quite hilly) and play difficult. Bring your A game and have fun.
A course in the country
We are visiting Richmond and I was going to play alone so I was looking for a bargain. For about $25 I reserved a cart and 18 holes on two od the 9-hole courses. I ended up playing alone and finished the first nine in a little over an hour; i finally caught up with a twosome with four holes to go on the back nine and they let me play theough so 18 holes in a little over 2 hrs and 10 min. Bermuda fairways were tough for wedge shots as there was not much grass under the ball, and bunkers were fiar. A good public course but a let down after driving 20 miles and passing a lot of courses that looked very nice and probably cost a lot more. It was better than sitting home for the day though and still time left to get things done!
Best condition I've ever seen this course in!
Tee boxes, fairways, and greens are in the best shape I've ever seen.
Great course to relax and hit away
Played numerous times now , one of my golf partners favorite courses. Can be short but back up to the blues and have at it . Greens hold very well , run very true. With the lack of a hazard and with the trees lining fairways , usually you can find and play an errant tee shot so great place to pick your tee box to match your length and have at it. The staff is very accomadating and add to the whole great environment. Road course open, cottage tighter and short ,but the lakes personality our favorite . Great value and worth the drive.
Very Pleaseant Course. Not to difficult but too easy,
I got a chance to play this course because of my kids. Drop kids off at Kings Dominion and I went on to The Hollows, which is about 17 mins. As soon as I arrived, Impressed with Course view. It's not by the water but really good layout and you not playing between houses!, Staffs are very very nice, super cool, gave me all the info I need as this is my very first time playing.
The Tee box is better than fair, so in good conditions, as you hit the ball, the fair is in good condition [dont compare to $100 green fee course, but among $20-$60 courses, this is nice].
Now the GREEN, it is in very very nice. When I make GW shot from 110, I can see it gets down and sit pretty quick and sometimes gets back spin. Putt pretty fast, about 10 or 11 speed. Over all, it was fun and enjoyed it very much.
NOTE,: Fairway is not too tight but not wide and trees along the way. Good news is not very much hazard or OB, so you can try to hit long and still able to recover. [Especially for me, I had not much idea where I was going as they have 3 different 9 holes but tons of fun!]
Practice
Good course for the poor/avg or good golfer. For the good/great golfer its a good place to practice.
Chris
Good course. Nice fairways and greens. Staff was excellent
A Golf Haven
Simply AWESOME that there are 3 - 9 hole courses to choose from allowing all skill level golfers the oppurtunity to challenge themselves.
Friendly course and solid value
First time I've played The Hallows, the staff was super laid back and the course was in solid condition. Nothing was spectacularly nice but that's not what this place is. It's a large 27 hole facility that competes on value. You will not find a better non-hot deal value in Richmond the 18 holes includes an addition 9 if you want to play it at $39 It gets my vote.
