Pay attention to the fees. You may pay more than you think.
I have had the chance to play Mill Quarter 3 times in the past month and enjoyed the course, however the last 2 visits I decided to play an additional 18 holes. The first time they only charged me for the cart rental which was $8, the second time they charged me $29 green fees but no cart rental. So my suggestion is that if you want to play 36 take your smartphone with you and rebook another tee time on golfnow.com you will probable save yourself some money.
Good layout and balance
Good condition for late April. Greens not yet at peak condition. Quite a bit of poa annua. Bermuda is starting to grow again.
A fun and challenging course!
I've been playing Mill Quarter for thirteen years now and I never get tired or bored with it. The course is challenging but fair from the two tee boxes I've played from. The staff is extremely friendly and pleasant. The atmosphere is relaxed but professional. The par 5's definitely do challenge especially someone who is not a "big hitter" off the tee. The "barn hole" # 17 is probably considered the signature hole and requires a straight drive or your troubles start immediately. The par 5 #15 is long and narrow with a narrow elevated green that is well trapped front and back.
Had a great time at Mill Quarter Plantation
Course staff was friendly. Pace of play was perfect. Relaxing round. Layout was challenging yet friendly. Conditions were good for early in the season.
Nice track
Decided I couldn't beat $9 with a cart so off I went. Course had a nice array of holes and distances, just short of 7K from the blue and 6.5K from the white? Give or take a smidge! Greens had been airiated?sp. but rolled okay for this time of year. Some tee boxes were pretty shabby with a lot of dirt spots. Fairways were coming along alright. Some bunkers were still wet, some were muddy and some were fine, again its that time of year. For my money I would go back, enjoyed my round. I think it will be nicer this summer when it is good and hot and everything is grown in.
Good for the money
Played this course this morning due to its closeness to our hotel. The staff was very friendly and I actually got on the course early and played with a member. The course did need some work however it will be in good shape with in a couple weeks. It was a fun round and I would definitely play it again.
the fairways were horrible,,,,, added 10 shots to my score,,, hitting off dirt.
the course needed alot of work... no grass on fairways.
Potential
This course has potential. It's a nice layout, challenging, and is in a natural surrounding. The course itself though is in horrible shape. Tee boxes are so beat up it's hard to find a level stance, fairways are over run by crabgrass, bunkers are mud pits that haven't seen a rake in years. It appears like the owners have just given up on maintaining the course at all. Too bad because this could be one of the nicer courses in VA with a little TLC. Until that happens I wold recommend not wasting your time or money playing here.
Greens were just aerated and sanded. Greens in rough shape.
Went out as a single and started on the back nine. Course is generous with wide fairways but is pretty long. Unfortunately greens were just aerated and sanded so greens were in rough shape. Starter was great as he allowed me to play a couple of extra holes on the back nine. Would play again when greens are in better shape.
Overall a decent layout for the price. GREAT FOR BEGINERS.
I (25) played with my younger brother (22) and his girlfriend (21), this past Sunday around noon. We were the youngest people at the course by easily 25 to 15 years, but the staff and other golfers were very friendly. I felt the age difference was a spot this course is lacking, because it is set up for a beginner's game, which I will explain later. With both my brother and myself being long hitters, we usually have a quick pace of play, but did not incur any noticeable wait times.
The course overall was fairly well covered in grass, but did not look well maintained. The obviously were different types of grasses, weeds and the like mixed in all of the surfaces, but still maintained a decent representation of the overall design. By no means was this a horrible course, but the overall condition was not great. Some rough spots on the greens and odd wet spots that did not look like should retain water. Paid $35 with cart, so it wasn't that bad on the wallet for the condition and time.
THE BEGINNERS COURSE!!! So, as I said my litter brother's girlfriend played with us. She was an athlete in high school and measures in on the upside of 5'10", but is still a beginner. On other courses I have played with her, I have seen her go through a whole box of balls, but here where the fairways are wide and have little separating them from the tee boxes, she lost much fewer. Around 5 or 6. The Juniors/Womens' tees were also much further up than the rest, and did give her a lot more forgiveness when she did hit the worm burner off the tee. The Greens also are wide and for the majority, pretty flat. This is good and bad for the beginner, because like her I'm sure many have trouble stopping balls on the flatter surfaces since they then to roll balls into greens instead of having high lofted shots. On the bright side, the greens are huge in my opinion.
Okay... I'm done.
Good golf
needs drainage in most traps as well as more sand. The course design is good. I enjoyed playing there.
Fairway Coming In
Fairways are coming in well. Greens still a little sandy but rolled pretty well. Rained the night before and into the morning so traps were wet but that could be expected. Always enjoy this course.
This is not a pristine course but I would say it's above average and always a good place to play.
Good course if you can get a deal. Long and greens are in good shape but with lots of ball marks on them.
If you can get a deal this is a good course. Play can be slow (5-+ hours). Bernumda grass in the winter in the rough and lots of leaves make losing a golf ball easy. Apparently not much of a dress code as one of the old guys in front of me had on a pair of denim bib coveralls to play. Yee Hah. No one seems to like to fix their ball marks on the green, maybe they are proud of them, which will lead to problems next spring. They don't rake sand traps either. One trap had cart tire tracks through it along with the jerk's footprints. Nice country course.
Great, long layout with some strategic holes
Played on 11/4 on my way back from Greensboro, NC. All round very customer friendly staff. Overall the course was in great shape...fairways, greens. Greens ran smooth. No patches. A few bunkers were washed out due to heavy rains and would need to be refilled. Looks like the owners are really working hard to keep the course up. Fair test from the back tees. Would definately play here again.
the course was in great shape for late season play, leaf fall was heavy, but managable
I've always enjoyed playing at Mill Quarter, the staff and course always make me come back for another round.
nice layout, fun to play, decent greens
We play MillQuarter fairly often. It's a fun course to play with decent greens. Got a great deal on Golfnow.com
Better than last year but still needs work.
Great public course lay-out, but owner does not invest enough money to bring conditions up to standard. Several greens still have rough patchy areas from last years burnout, but most have come back and are puttable. Good value for the money if you can get a Hot Deal.
nice course
overall good shape//sands traps could use a little attention
