South Riding Golf Club
About
South Riding Golf Club is nestled in the gentle hills of northern Virginia, enjoying a landscape of hardwood forests and grassy meadows. The course offers a variety of challenges but the fairways are wide and player-friendly and the greens can be tough in spots but overall they offer some room for error. The layout requires both strategy and skill, it is definitely not a golf course where you will be able to just "grip and rip it." The course pinpoints your weaknesses but it is still a fair test. South Riding Golf Club's eighth hole is memorable for its difficulty but it's an interesting hole sine there are many ways to play it. At 351 yards, the hole is a short but intimidating dogleg left that will tempt you to go over the trees. The fairway is generous but the saddle-shaped green is flanked with bunkers.

Fairways and Tee Boxes in BAD Condition
Save yourself $90. Course is not in great condition.
It’s hard for any grass to survive a summer in the DC area, and this course is no exception. The tee boxes are in pretty bad shape and the drainage is not good, but the groundskeepers are out there trying. The greens were recently aerated too, but that doesn’t factor into my review since it’s part of normal business. I was a single and the pace of play was blazing fast, which was awesome to be done in about 3:30. I will go back, but this course needs some cooler weather and some good turf repair in the meantime.
Wait til next season
Based on the conditions of this week, save your $ and go elsewhere. Tee boxes were all dirt, cut grass in chunks all over the place which made it really hard to find your ball even close to the fare way and muddy.
Something bad happened here
They lost most of their tee boxes and some portions of fairways. Heat followed by too much rain? Disease? Fertilizer burn? Definitely not worth $55 after 4pm. And they just punched the greens. I don't know why courses don't offer a 10-15% discount while the greens recover. The layout is great, but conditions horrible.
1 and done here.
Course was entertaining but in very bad condition.
Tees were terrible. The fairways were so-so and the green full, I am talking about full of divots. Hard to put in those conditions.
Half the time you have to guess where you are going. Barely any directions.
We had a young four-some in front of us. They were hitting multiple balls each, terrible pace of play. At one point on 14 they are chasing the geese around with their cart, I had to yell at them. NO golf ethics at all and nobody to control them either.
I have played way better courses for the price here.
Beautiful fall golf
Course conditions were fair at best, tee boxes in terrible condition & greens inconsistent with rough terrain!
Pace of play was good; the 18 holes are fairly far apart & spread out. Definitely not worth the high price to play
Not worth the green fee
The course is in bad shape. Rough was long and had clumps of cut grass from last mowing. The tee boxes were pretty rough, some were mostly dirt and sand. Lots of crabgrass. Not worth almost $100 for a round.
Needs A lot of Work
Course is not being maintained very well. Greens were in okay condition but fairways and tee boxes were a mess. Also there was no water out on the course.
Not worth it
One of the more expensive courses in the area, even accounting for Sat AM. Waited for 2 groups at most holes. SEVERE drainage issues. Every single hole had at least one or more of the following: swampy rough/fairway, pools of water, mud. Cart paths also had standing water everywhere. Layout forces doubling back and splits in cart path, sometimes unmarked. Tee box, fairway, greens, all looked heavily-worn and dimpled. There's a reason why I seldom play here even though it's within walking distance from my house.
1/2 a course
I always read reviews on courses prior to booking and always find it very helpful. I make it a point to try to give my take.
Set up a last minute round through GN. 9 holes was $50 or 18 for $60......No brainer..played the 18....
It was truly a tail of two nines....The front nine was decent with some of the Tee boxes in awful shape. The greens were in good shape, very soft so your ball just plugged. The fringe of the greens had alot of mowed weeds which held the ball on fringe putts.....
Now to the back.....Wow.......How a course or maintenance crew can mow the grass and just have the cut grass everywhere is mind-boggling. Total laziness if you ask me. Not even just a little grass, all over the place.......If I was the Superintendant, there is no way I am dealing with that....The back was so wet and sloppy you could barely drive, it really should have been cart path only, which we did on many anyway. The tread marks and the mud holes from carts was terrible. ..............
The staff was very nice especially the snack shop guy......was just visiting the area and probably would never play this course again. Has to be a better trek in the area I would think.
Gnats were AWFUL as well......bring spray of some sort......
