The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

The pace of play was rather slow. Unfortunately, there was no marshals! But, being the holiday weekend, I can understand.
The bunkers on the course are HORRIBLE. They have no sand in them & have mostly weeds growing. Though from a distance it looks like grass.
The green fees are rather high, for that price we can ask something a little well maintained bunkers at least!
Though it’s still early in the season, this course does NOT maintain their bunkers, even in the middle of the season!
Invest in some sand
Virtually every sand trap was completely devoid of sand
Great course but slow play kills it
Love the location - like the layout - very fair price and it’s fairly easy to get a tee time. BUT the slow play really ruins it. Have yet to make a round in less than 5 hrs and I’ve walked off twice due to excessive waiting. Too bad.
Good Value
For less than $30 to walk on a Wednesday morning, the course is a good value. Early as possible tee time, 7:10 and played in less 3 hours.
The course is very walkable with only long green to tee from 9 to 10.
I play here 4-5 times a year.
After heavy rain the previous night, some areas don’t drain particularly well. But, didn’t really effect play.
Poor course layout
You have no idea where the fairway is on some holes as it overlaps other holes. You are all on top of each other because their is no spacing between holes.
Average Public Course
It’s nothing spectacular and that’s to be expected for the money. I paid $26 to walk 18. It’s slightly a dangerous course because every fairway and tee box is staggered on top of another. The combination of that and the sun par golfers the course attracts can sometimes make for a dangerous situation. The front 9 was a beautiful pace I never caught anyone until the tee box on hole 11. From 11-13 I had to wait 10+ minutes a hole because of a group 3 groups ahead of me. So after 13 I just cut onto the 17th tee box and played 17 and 18 because it just wasn’t with it to me. All in all this course can be a hit or miss depending on when you play.
Why bother with a ranger?
Pace of play was terrible. 4.5 hours and only through 13. Group two up from us was behind, staff didn't do anything to move them along. Greens might as well have been astroturf over concrete, didn't get a single ball mark on approach shots and couldn't get the ball to stop. Most of the bunkers on the course don't have any sand, and those that do were rarely raked and didn't have much sand over top of the clay.
Tight squeeze
Frost delay led to 30 minute back up. Everyone on top of each other the entire day. Overall course is good, but very tight. Cannot hit too many long driver shots, but a unique layout nonetheless. Fairways are right next to each other so often times you’re waiting or being waited on to clear the area. Probably a much better experience on a weekday.
Pace of play is too slow. No rangers to help keep pace of play. Bunkers are not filled with sand.
