The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

Great, consistent course with some nice doglegs
Always a pleasure playing here. Course is always in good shape. A little damp/rainy earlier today made for some soft fairways. Pace of play is solid.
Weather
Course was overall good but felt. Our group was forced to play a round that the club knew was going to be cancelled due to weather. Tee time was at 11:15am it rained all night til about 9am with mixed showers in-between then and our tee time. Once we arrived they told us to be careful the course is really wet and expect rain showers until 4-5pm. Welp we got thru 9 holes and thunderstorms rolled in and were unable to finish out round that we had to pay $60 for 18 but only got to play 9.
Nice course
Not too long, lots of doglegs, well maintained and the pace is fine! Lots of parallel holes so plenty of cross-traffic.
Challenging Short Course
This is a course I have played several times. It’s not very long, but for some reason I find the layout very challenging. I’m not sure what type of grass is on the greens, but it’s very dense and consistent. The course is well maintained by the very capable superintendent and grounds crew.
No rating for the on-course amenities is supplied because they’re all still closed.
I recommend this course for golfers of all skill levels
Great value
Great value. My buddy and I walked it for 37 on a Sunday. Greens were in good condition. The rough is true rough. Sand traps were full. Distance is somewhat shorter. Again it’s a great value for the money spent.
Great day
Course was in good shape. Didn’t understand not handing out scorecards.
Good Value for the money. Very friendly staff.
This course is a good mix of wide open and tight holes. A few very tough ones, but overall most are forgiving. Greens were in great shape and fast. Staff did a very good job managing people through the social distancing issues. This track is worth playing. Will be back.
One of the better courses for the value in the Philadelphia area
The course was in great condition besides a few of the bunkers that need maintenance. Lots of short dogleg par 4’s, so the driver isn’t needed very often. All things considered, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better public course for the value in the Philadelphia area.
COVID & golf
This was the first day for golf in Pennsylvania during the pandemic. The Club at Shannondell is fairly straightforward, flat and in places doesn't drain particularly well. We had a lot of rainy weather in the past 24 hours. That being said the course condition was fairly good and the round was perfectly fine. Not many people out there which surprised me. Walking was a pleasure. Price was right. Great to get back to swinging a club and much more interesting than walking in my neighborhood again. Thanks to the crew at Shannondell for reopening and welcoming their guests.
