Classic Philly Layout
Have played Downingtown CC several times over the years, and most recently played for the first time since the new ownership group took over. The course has never looked better. Greens were aerated early and have since recovered beautifully. The staff, from being greeted outside upon arrival, to the pro shop, to the bar afterwards, were nothing short of spectacular.
If you are looking for a classic Fazio design at a great price, Downingtown is your place.
Ba-ba-boo-e
I have been playing D-town for nine plus years and was concerned when new ownership took over. However, after watching them inject a ton of money back into the coarse/facilities it seems as though they are investing in the future. New carts, redone bunkers, tree removal, pond/irrigation projects... I'm interested in what's next? Keep up the improvements please!
Chester County's Best Golf
I have played Downingtown Country Club more than I have played any of the other public courses in this area for a few reasons. The new management team has done an amazing job keeping the course in the best shape I have seen it over the years. The staff has also been exceptional, from the Pro-Shop to Restaurant/Bar, Banquet staff ( I played in a few outings this year) and the Half Way house. I would highly recommend playing here if you never have. I have felt so welcomed just as a regular player and non member that I am highly considering joining as a member for the 2017 season. Kudos to the new management team!
Great Course
This course is in great shape and offers a lot of value for the price paid. Hole number 8 was a personal favorite; a challenging par 5 that is reachable in two shots if you play the hole well. The staff was very friendly and overall I had a great experience. Definitely will play here again!
Excellent course
Excellent day on the course with a few buddies. Pace of play and conditions were excellent. Cannot wait to come back to play again.
A Shame What Jaworski has Done to a Once Very Good Course
I've played here 30-40 times over the last decade. This past weekend was the first time under the new ownership. Things have taken a significant turn for the worse. Amenities have lessened, service is terrible, and the course is in sorry shape. They're charging for a top-dollar experience but delivering a muni course experience. The constant wedding partying on the veranda 30 feet from the first tee is very annoying. We had to deal with a day wedding when we teed off and an evening wedding coming up 18. Yes, our round took over five hours. Teeing off to blaring music and drunks yelling "It's in the hole" is completely unacceptable. Repeatedly finding my ball on hardpan in the fairways is also not acceptable at this price point. This is a wedding venue first and a golf course a distant second, at best. I read some similar reviews but I wanted to see for myself how things are under new ownership. I should have listened to the bad reviews. You've been warned.
I won't be back. A shame.
I play once a week from April through October and shoot in the high 80s-low 90s.
Love the course not the ranger
Love this course. The female ranger seemed upset that we were playing a "Hot Round". She went on to say that we were supposed to be a foursome. We explained that we were two singles and their starter put us off as a two. This is the first time I had a bad experience with the staff. Keep up the good work with improving the course.
What have you done Jaworski?
I live in Maryland and have ben traveling in and out of Philly for 20 years or so on business. Once upon a time, Downingtown was a great track - a difficult course that made you work almost every shot. Greens were slick, rough was 'rough', bad shots were penalized. No longer. it's a shame, nothing more than a muni golf course. I am picky with courses, so if this were my first time there and i payed 40 bucks or so, then I would say "it was OK". My expectations were for the 2010 golf course and that is gone. I am a 12 handicap. Dissappointed, will choose other places on future trips.
Nice place
Golfed in the morning. It was perfect. Just could have used a bathroom somewhere besides the restaurant.
Great day of golf.
I played with my father and son. We had a great time on the course. The conditions were excellent, the greens were challenging. I would definitely play here again.
Pace of play
We were a party of 4. Then a single, then a party of 2x again. A single.
We ended up letting all of them go thru.
It was not a problem to let them through, however it added a bit of time to our round..
Downingtown Country Club
Downingtown CC in good condition. They have removed trees and cut the overgrown rough to speed up play.
Course needs Cart path maintenance, overall good experience
Very open
Probably won't lose a lot of balls here even if you're a hacker like myself. Very open and if you miss the fairway, easy to find the errant tee shot. Lots of sand and water comes in to play on a couple holes on the back. Really liked the par threes (none all that long and they have hazards in the middle to get to the green). I played in twice in a week with a buddy and didn't pay the full price of greens fees which I hear are expensive. Proper value IMO would be in the $60 range. We rode both times, but there was a plethora of walkers if that's your thing. No complaints about this course.
Overpriced
My first time playing this course was yesterday. I paid $69 for a 7 am tee time. Pace of play was not an issue considering I was the first out. However, the conditions of the cart paths and course in general were not the greatest condition. The grounds crew for the most part are polite, but on certain holes it seems they don't know proper etiquette. Therefore, I stood over my ball on multiple holes for a good 5 minutes waiting for someone to finish cutting the fairway. All in all, you can see the potential for the course, but there is a lot of work that needs to be done if they continue to charge so much.
Not a $89 Course!
Overall, the course is in great condition and was fun to play but it is just not a course worth $89. This course is worth roughly $50-$55 at peak times. It looks like they get the customer base paying the $89 so good for them. I won't play this course again unless there is a special.
Course in great shape!
I'm a local that has been playing downingtown a few times a month for the past 20 years. This was my first time playing this year. I must say the course is in the best condition I ever saw. It was a pleasurable round to notice all the changes the new management made. The greens were in great condition and rolled true. Pace of play was kind of slacking. The course was packed! They need a couple more rangers out there. Overall it was a great day of golf at downingtown.
Nice Course but a little Pricey
Great staff and course. Without GolfNow deals it is a little expensive for the layout. Course is in great condition and you can see the improvements they are putting in will be a nice upgrade
Downingtown GC
First time player, course was in great shape. I would play it again. Pace of play was slow. A lot of twosomes were allowed to play but I can't imagine that's why it was slow. Probably a slow four ball in front of the 4 groups of twosomes in front of us. Don't understand why they wouldn't group the twosomes together. Also being a first time player they started us off on the back 9 but gave us no directions how to get there and there was no signage directing us.
Good course, but too expensive
Downingtown is a good course. It is in great shape and maintained well, but the layout is very bland. Golfnow deals for under $70 is a good deal. I would never pay the regular price of $89 on a weekend.
Good course little over priced
The restaurant and wedding venue easily trump the golf course, very hard to pay $82 here. Nice course and layout just should be $60 tops for weekends
