Poor shape
I always enjoyed Butlers but just played recently and the greens are in horrendous shape. I've never seen it like that before and won't go back until I hear it's repaired. Front 9 lakeside was the worst. Back 9 was a bit better. Play at your own risk.
Challenging Course With Elevation Changes
The back nine on this course is quite challenging. Plays up a hill and back down, which is pretty scenic. Greens are quick and undulated. The front nine is similar to the Woodside course, and the back nine is what makes it different.
Thanks for taking the time to review us! We try to give our players a challenging but rewarding round, and we hope you enjoyed it!
2nd Time not a charm!!!
This was my 2nd time playing this course. It was not good to say the least. Lets start with the course itself. Well, it has been better in the past. The greens were all over the place, some very slow and others super fast. Thought it would've been better maintained. Fairways were ok. Pace of play was ridiculously slow. I went to the first tee to find a crowd of people like I was back in my younger years waiting to get into the club. The line was long. 4 carts ahead of me and 3 behind me. You do the math on the wait (at an average of 2 ppl/cart).
I won't go back unless with people, other than that not worth it. It was a very long day. almost 6 hours!
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent round at Butler's. We will use your feedback to reiterate the importance of implementing an effective pace of play policy, particularly on busy days as you experienced.
An Extra Special Hot Deal
I have played Butler's Lakeside course many times - it is a quality course and enjoyable experience.
My only complaint about Butler's is the pace of play. Quite often they overbook the course and round can easily extend into the 5 hour range. This round was much better - played in 4:10.
The course was in good shape except for the green on number one which has experienced some significant damage in spots. And the hole was right in the middle of the damaged area. Why not move the cup to another location?
This round was a Hot Deal and I only paid $10. This course is a good value at $30-40 so I was thrilled to secure this deal.
Thanks for your review! We do get a lot of players on the course on a regular basis, and this can unfortunately lead to a longer round despite our attempts to keep players moving. We'll make sure to check in on first green -- thank you for the heads up! Come see us again soon!
Horrible upkeep
This track has one of the best layouts of any local courses. The staff is pleasant but the conditions of the course are absolutely terrible The greens are horrendous. Hitting greens with a nice high approach is not rewarded, rather you will see your shot ricochet 15 yards as if it hit a cart path. Once on the green your frustration will only rise when you attempt to putt through the many scars and holes each green has. Very disappointing round with the conditions as the views and layout could make this one of the best. I would recommend if the upkeep was improved.
Thanks for your review, and we very much appreciate your feedback. It's very disappointing that the course wasn't up to our usual standards during your round. We will take another look at our maintenance schedule and procedures to remedy this. Thanks again, and we hope you visit us again soon!
Great Time
This was one of the first true courses I have played as a newbie to the game. It was excellent.
Thanks for the review! We're excited to be part of your introduction to golf. Here's to a great game and a few more rounds!
staff always friendly and able to accomodate your needs
the staff and course at Butlers is fantastic. everyone is very helpful and kind. I have had an outing there for 5 years now and each year the quality of golf and the staff is top notch.
Thanks for your review! We hold ourselves to a high standard and we're glad it shows. Thank you for being one of our regulars, and we can't wait to see you again!
Woodside
Love the course. Some older golfers need a course in golf etiquette. Look behind once in awhile and let faster playing groups through
Behind. Greens were Bad. Poor Drainage.
When we got there the starters told us they were 30 minutes behind schedule. There were 8 foursomes stacked in front of us. I know a course needs to make money but maybe spread out the tee times more or have actual Rangers riding around moving Pace of Play along! 5 hours 15 mins for our round!!!!!
The greens were very used and beaten up. They were very slow and about a half of dozen had fungus all over it. They are not well maintained at all.
This place has gotten worse since I last played it.
Nice Facility
Enjoyed this track originally built in 20's. Really good mix of holes. Lots of different skill levels would enjoy. Outstanding value on weekend morning. Only critique would be greens slow with lots of unfixed ball marks. Previous reviews said greens are great. I'll have to try again & see. Otherwise really fun course & setting. 36 holes available. Look forward to coming back.
Butler's- Great Bang 4 your Buck
Butler's is a great deal for public golf during the week. I have the Birdie Card which allows me to play 18 holes for $24. The course is in great shape considering it gets a ton of play. I know the course gets jammed on the weekends, but when the price is right and the greens roll true, that's what happens. My only complaint is the the restaurant doesn't serve breakfast all day- they have "eggcellent" bogey bagels on the menu.
love the views
Beautiful course with fantastic views. Pace of play was 4.5 hrs for 18 on a weekend. Course was in Great shape some of the greens were quite a challenge. was well worth the cost. Staff were friendly and courteous
Great
Great golf course thanks!
Needs a ranger
All of the groups I caught up to let me play through until I caught up to a couple on #13. Two beginners who were oblivious to everyone else on the course. No one in front of them as far as I could see. A ranger could have fixed the problem.
Course was in good shape. Not extremely difficult, but it had a few challenging holes on the back nine. It also had a few blind holes on the back.
Nice track but slow
I thought this was a very nice course although very slow, but to be expected on a nice Sunday afternoon. We were paired with another twosome so I wasn't crazy about that but the other pair were nice guys. The pace was extremely slow taking about 5.5 hours for a fairly short course. A LOT of bad players out there, every time I turned around I was ducking from a bad shot from someone else on the course. Thought the 18th was very interesting and makes you think about the shot you want to hit. The greens were sneaky with how much break the actually had versus what it appeared. Had some amazing scenic views on the back nine and I wouldn't mind playing here again on a not so busy day.
Insanely slow
Over 5 1/2 hours to play Lakeside course. Not a ranger in sight. There's no reason except over booking and management disinterest. No wind. perfect weather.
Nice Course
The Course was very busy on a holiday weekend, but our tee time was honored. Staff was friendly, Pace of play was slow. It is a very challenging course ,would play again.
Lakeside Review
Course was in very good condition for the price we paid, $40 and well worth it for a weekend/holiday. Everything was great. Little delay at the beginning with a line in the proshop; I guess the computers were running slow and as long as that doesn't always happen then no big deal.
My only complaint about the course was I thought the fringe around the green was a little choppy as if it hadn't been cut. So there were some big clumps of longer grass. Besides it messing with you when you were putting, it also just didn't look good. But thats a minor complaint and wouldn't stop me from playing the course again.
Good course, Friendly staff
Had fun playing the course with a friend. The greens are rolled and reasonably fast for an average golfer. The course was in great shape.
Thank you for your review. This hotter than normal summer has certainly made keeping pristine conditions difficult, particularly with the amount of poa annua grass on the course. We're confident the cooler temperatures of fall will allow for these areas to recover. We also just brought on an extremely qualified Superintendent who started work two days ago. His skillset will serve Butler's well moving forward. We hope to see you again soon!
