Nice layout
This course is in great shape and can be challenging.
Butler's GC is Great
Great course. Open Layout. Lakeside Back Nine has a few tough undulating greens.
Nice Golf Course
The golf course was in great shape and the greens rolled very fast. A good challenge.
Great course
Butler's is a great course! Well-kept, well managed. Pace of play is really good, friendly staff, great overall course!
great place
have been playing at butlers for 35 years always in great shape. unfortunitley we played the day after a very bad storm with heavy rain fall. The course was a swamp but we still had a good time
Disappointed
Both butlers courses used to be 2 of my
favorite courses in the area. However, my last few outings in both courses were disappointing. The courses are both severely over-booked. Booking tee times every 7 minutes is absolutely absurd. I once had a tee time for 10:30. I was at the tee box at 10:30, and 3 more foursomes still had yet to tee off. Yesterday, i made a tee time for lakeside since it was one of the few nice courses open in the area December (course conditions were awesome btw.) After checking in, the ranger reported that there were no more carts. My tee time was scheduled for 12:52. I believe we teed off at 1:15. We had to wait at least 10 minutes for every shot at every hole. We eventually quit at 4:45 after hole 13. I didn't see one ranger on either course checking pace of play. Nobody was playing "ready golf" as should have been the case considering the amount of golfers.
The course must make tons on money packing all of those tee times and people so close together. I consider that just greedy and it pretty much tells me that Butlers golf course only cares about $$$ and doesn't care about the golfers experience. Golfing is my favorite hobby and this place ruins it for me. Every. Single. Time. This course has lost my business.
Perfect Fall Round
Butler's is consistently one of the best kept public courses in the Pittsburgh area--especially south of the city. Played on Sunday 11/8/15, right before the kick-off of a home Steelers game and there was virtually nobody on the course, which made pace-of-play excellent. The weather was beautiful and the course was in absolutely perfect shape. The back nine of the Lakeside course has some really challenging and picturesque holes, and almost feels like a completely separate course altogether. Will definitely be back, especially when with the great deals that they have on Golfnow.com.
Very nice layout
Loved the layout. Huge greens. But, they has just aerated and had so much rain recently that they hadn't been able to mow the fairways or tee boxes. Otherwise, very nice course.
Great Course
Rain stopped once we reached the course. expected very slow soggy greens but were very surprised. Greens were in great shape. The sand bunkers were like concrete and had puddles, but that was expected after all the rain. We had a great time, would definitely play the course again rain or shine...
slow
The course was in good condition, but the notorious slow play there made me angry enough to leave before finishing the round. Get some rangers.
Fair For The Price
I like to play fast golf, so I always worry about slow play but for a late Saturday afternoon, it was fine. The front is fine, but I prefer the back.
No complaints really, would recommend
The staff was wonderful!
I showed up as a single female golfer on a Sunday morning, and the staff was so wonderful! My husband was doing the GAP trail, and I wanted to spend the day golfing. They worked me into the schedule, and checked on me a couple of times, and met me at the turn and got me into a nice group of two men to play the last 9 Holes. They were so kind and truly wanted to help me achieve my goal of playing 18 holes. I was blown away with their kindness and their desire to help me. Thank you!
Course was great too!
Well run course
Alrhough our play was a little longer than expected times the staff did a good job of keeping things moving. Greens run true. Bunkers could be better, too much water gets in them from the greens making for tough sand play.
Great day on the course
Course was in very good condition. Never had a wait to tee off.
Top Public Course in Pittsburgh Area
I booked Woodside through Golfnow at a discounted rate to play in the heat of the afternoon, but would definitely say the course was even worth the $36 my partner paid to play. I gave this course 5 stars in comparison to most public courses in the Pittsburgh area. The course was in excellent condition and was very well maintained, although the greens were difficult to land as they were very hard. But you could just call that a challenge rather than a flaw. 3/4 Par 5's are easily reachable in two, maybe unless you're playing from the black's, which makes for some excitement. One of my favorite public courses iv'e played in the Pittsburgh area and I cannot wait to try out Lakeside.
Way too slow
you have tee times for a reason..... It should not take 5.5 hrs to play 18. either space them out more or get a ranger out there.
Best Value in Pittsburgh
One of the best courses for the money in Pittsburgh. The conditions are always great and the staff is very friendly. The course is open enough that an amateur isn't losing a ball every other shot, but the greens and pin placements make attacking the cup a challenge. Both the lakeside course and woodside course, so this review applies to both courses. Pace was a little slow due to the holiday weekend, but that was to be expected. Overall, Butlers is well worth the money and a fantastic course for the area.
nothing wrong with the course
slow play on the back 9.waited on every shot, no ranger to speed up play.
Great experience
Me and 3 of my buddies played on Sunday for my birthday ... All first timers to the course. Great course and scenery. Will for sure be coming back and recommending to others
