Butlers on the weekends gets a LOT of play!
We were unlucky enough to play behind a bachelor party with 16 guys. Loud doesn't describe the round! It took - 2.5 hours to play - 9! We broke loose and played thru after the front 9 - Thank GOD!!! Caught another bunch of foursomes on 14 - took an hour and 20 minutes to play the last 5 holes. The ranger came and spoke to the 2 foursomes slowing things up on #18! What a joke - too little too late in my book!
Nice course
Very friendly staff. Great facilities. Good food. Course was in great shape, greens were quick and rolled well. Good variety of holes. The course is spread out but you are riding a cart so no real problems.
Great time would play again
beautiful course
Played the Lakeside. Both courses look very nice. Going back to play the Woodside soon. Very soft conditions after rain, but we still could drive 90 degrees on the fairways. Greens very receptive, would leave a ball mark from a 20 yard chip. Great layout!
Great course, poor service
Those involved with purely the golfing side of my experience were great. From the lady working the register to the starter, excellent service all around. Unfortunately, the service in the bar and grille was extremely poor. A group of 4 of us sat down at the bar and waited 17 minutes before we were able to get a drink, which we had to flag down the bartender to get. After receiving our drinks, she was virtually gone again as I waited another 10 minutes to be able to place a food order. We're were at the bar for approximately 1 1/2 hours in which we were asked one time if we would like another beverage and had to ask the bartender every other time. If I go back, I certainly wouldn't waste my time or money on the bar/grill.
Great Value, Long Round
After my disappointment in nearby 7 Springs, I vowed to try Butler's during my next visit to Elizabeth-- and now I'm lamenting the money I spent at Springs even more. Butler's is one of the nicest courses I've had the chance to play since moving to the South Hills. The course was in fine shape despite the overwhelming volume of play. The grounds crew was filling the bunkers with new sand as we made our way around the Lakeside track. There were some gorgeous holes on this sprawling property, the most of which were located on the challenging back nine. We had such a conversational group in front of use and such nice weather that we hardly minded the five+ hour round. I'll give Butler's the benefit of the doubt: The Woodside course was hosting a very large outing, which I assume flooded the Lakeside course with guests and impeded the speed of play. I can't wait to go back and try the other side.
course has challenging greens
Pin placement on some greens makes very hard for ave. golfer to play .Greens have lots of small hills in them. But the rest is in good shape and a great place to play a round.
course is laid out very nice.
Very nice course, will keep going back. will tell other golfers about. Staff was very nice.
Great Course
Course was in great shape.. Wasn't rushed. Also didn't have to wait. Course we'll kept. Fun day!
Butlers Golf course
Course is in great shape. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Pace of play was great and they have rangers paying constant attention. Best public course in southwest pa. Do yourself a favor and play it.
Tough greens fun short course
Challenging wedge course and greens are very difficult on some greens
Nice Course
1.Very well maintain course
2.This is a challenging course for Mid to High handicap golfers.
3. Large Pro-Shop
4. Resturant has great hometown food
5. The Starters and Cart Staff are very helpful and friendly
Great round!
Absolutely love butlers woodside..course was great and the greens were perfect. Shot a 79 and my buddy had his best round yet with a 71..great course for the money.
Challenging course. Love the hills
This course is in great shape - greens & fairways. Very friendly & helpful staff. Can't wait to go back
Decent Local Golf
Butlers is well laid out and maintained course, well courses. The greens roll very true and FAST and the tee boxes for the most part are sharp. The faults are in the fairways and rough where it gets rather rough. The fairways are not cut tight or mowed well. Your ball gets very little roll if any. The rough is different lengths everywhere and is annoying. Overall the course is pretty good. The staff is sort of nice but the way the pro shop is ran is just poor. One person checking out a huge line of people with other personnel just watching the struggle. It took about 25-30 minutes of waiting in line to pay in my opinion an over priced green fee. Butlers is a good local stop if you live in the area.
definitely be back
The pace was definitely slow but I really can't blame the course as the ranger did come around more than once it was just a perfect day for April so everyone was out. The course was in great condition for this time and as for the course itself it was challenging yet fair as far as openness didn't lose one ball all day which is a first. Alot less hilly than the lakeside. The staff is second to none. We plan on playing here often
My favorite local course.
I live about 15 miles away from this course and it is my favorite "local" course. I've had a great rapport with the staff. Lakeside is a bit more challenging than Woodside and the back 9 of Lakeside is very unique. #18 over the lake is my favorite hole in the area. The greens and fairways are usually in very good condition. Also the Rock Run Inn has some very good food as well. I've had some surprisingly delicious meals here. Butler's isn't an expensive "pristine" course but it is a high end public course that has reasonable prices with many great deals (such as the Birdie Card for regulars, etc). I usually play this course about a dozen times a season.
Slow play on Saturday.
The course was in decent shape. The greens had substantial spike and ball marks. We had a few groups in front of us that didn't seem to be serious golfers so some of those marks could have come from them. I love the back nine on this course. It is quit challenging.
Can't go wrong here
This is my home town course from where I grew up. Both 18's are great with the backsides of both courses being the most challanging. Everything I experienced this day was great except the greens (which have been really good this year). This was mostly due to people not fixing thier ball marks.
Love the course, but it was way overbooked.
I like Butler's, but the place was so packed, we couldn't even get a cart to go wait in line to play.
A little work on the cart paths would be appreciated also.
Otherwise, it was good.
Great looking course, Tee times too close together
The course is very well maintained, and thats about all the positive things I have to say The main issue I have and the reason I most likely will not be going back is the tee times. They schedule tee times 7 minutes apart, resulting in long wait times for each hole. I had a 12:22 tee time and didn't even tee off until 1. After that it was more of the same. Play a hole, wait 5-10 minutes to tee off at the next hole. I couldn't get into a rhythm with my swing, resulting in a very poor score and a lot of frustration. I've played there during the week early in the season and had no wait time what so ever and had a great time. I've been back there 3 times since, and had this same issue every time. I would never recommend this course to anyone, unless you're incredibly patient and don't mind playing 18 in over 6 hours.
