well maintained course
super nice and fairly well maintained, scenic, greens are fast, bunkers that day were a bit firm, but we got some rain the day before. In the past I've been to quite few courses in the South and East Pittsburgh area, Butler's Woodside is at the top of my list. I like courses where you don't have a blind spot in front of you from a hill when you're teeing off.
Butler Lakeside
With the exception of the bunkers that were in terrible condition, overall course condition was good. Greens in good shape and rolled very true. Back nine is newer and has dramatic elevation changes. 800 yds from clubhouse to 10th tee and from 18th green to clubhouse, so a cart is a recommended.
Great Deal for a fun course
Play these courses fairly often (at least twice per year). Lakeside is nice but Woodside is definitely my favorite of the two. We got a great deal for a late afternoon round on a Sunday through GolfNow. Despite rain during the weekend, the course was in great shape. Tee boxes were good, fairways were green and the greens were well-manicured. It's not a terribly difficult course but straying off the fairway more than a few yards can make it that way as you'll have to deal with trees. The staff here are very helpful and courteous. The course is quiet and away from the road which make it an even more enjoyable experience. Just make sure you have some bug spray as the bugs can get a tad annoying during the hot/humid weather.
But overall one of my favorite places to play and worth your time and money.
This course
This course is one of the better course's in Western Pennsylvania. I absolutely love playing this course. I especially liked getting such a great price to play!
Nice course / slow play
Course was in nice shape. Staff was friendly. We waited on every single shot of the round. Wish they would have sped play up a bit. All in all enjoyed it.
Nice place to play
Course is very well maintained. Lot's of hills on the back 9 and water throughout (hence the name). This was our second time playing this course and our scores each dropped by about 7 strokes. We are not professionals and would recommend this course to anyone who just wants a nice day on the course.
very nice gc
excellent course for the money I would definitely go there again anytime its the best public Golf Course in the area
Christmas Present
We played on 12/27/14, it was 54 degrees and had a great time. Playing in December was cool. Nice place, reasonable, course was in great shape.
The Butler did it!
One last round before the winter blast arrives. The starter having a lot of groups at the first tee told us to go out the back. Perfect as no wait and we breezed around all 18. Aerated a few weeks back but to be expected. Not much problem with the leaves and the weather was gorgeous for November. Played Lakeside and want to go back another time for the other 18.
clean up the leaves
this was the slowest round i played. we were a twosome and took over 6 hrs and that was quitting after 16 holes. they did not clean up any leaves and made play terrible. hit ball, look in leaves. need to maintain course.
Quality course
This course has it all! Easy , tough , scenic and challenging! Would recommend it
Lakeside is among the nicest in the Pittsburgh Area
I have played Butlers many years ago and never cared much for the course, especially given the fact that it's a little difficult to get to. I had never played the Lakeside course. It's a fantastic layout with big greens, that are fast with lots of break. The tee boxes and fairways are in very good shape, and the bunkers are well maintained. It has beautiful views with lots of elevation changes. PLAY THIS COURSE; be sure you book the Lakeside. T
18 holes in 3 Hours!
My playing partner and I were able to complete our round in 3 hours, a pleasant surprise. Nice carts, available drinks on course. Only complaint was a fair amount of leaves around that sometimes made finding a wayward shot a little difficult.
Lakeside is a hoot!
We played the Lakeside 18, and found the back 9 a load of up and down fun! Great conditioning for a low price, $84 for 2 included carts (and you will need one!). The staff were very helpful and happy to be there.
We have played both 18s there and would recommend
the lakeside 18 for a better challenge.
We will play here again next time we're in Pittsburgh!
Butlers
Nice course and a great deal - we teed off on time and it was easy to book. Butlers always keeps their courses in great shape. Will play there again!
Lakeside is well worth it
The front nine is enjoyable, but the back nine is what separates this course from the rest - the views of the area are spectacular, especially on #16.
Tee time selection
This course is nice but if you tee off too early the fog is terrible and effects your ability to score. Choose your tee time wisely..
Course in great shape
The course was is in great shape. A nice course with a challenging layout.
Dear baggerfrantz,
I'm sorry for your poor experience at Butler's on 11/4. We did get caught with a busy November day with a light off-season staff. I apologize for your experience and please look me (Tom the General Manager) up the next time you are making a tee time at Butler's.
