The Village Course at Waikoloa
About
Nestled between the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes, The Village Course at Waikoloa (formerly known as Waikola Village Golf Club) has a beautiful and unique location that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The verdant, rolling terrain is dotted with stands of young trees and lakes that were incorporated into the golf course’s design. Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course’s designer, tried to maintain the natural assets of the landscape while adding a few challenges such as fairways bunkers and doglegs. The golf course also features traditional raised greens that are subject to forceful prevailing winds. Although the course is challenging enough for the serious golfer, the relaxed pace and beautiful scenery appeal to players of all skill levels. Locals often consider The Village Course at Waikoloa one of Hawaii’s best-kept secrets.

nice course to play especially if you can get a Golfnow hot deal
Being a 15 handicapper, I enjoyed the resort-width fairways off the white tees & the generous greens. both were in good shape. the greens were quite fast and broke noticeably toward the ocean. Always seem to get paired up with someone that is very sociable and fun to golf with. will golf here again.
Great Value Depending; Friendly Staff
Got a great hot deal and paid $50. A very good price/value for this course. I don't believe it warrants up to the $100 it is in the morning. But, the staff was great; friendly and welcoming. The greens were very good and the fairways in nice shape. Several holes offer very nice expansive views toward the ocean. The day we played it was not blowing (this area evidently has a reputation for being windy) and the threatening clouds/rain showers never showed up (in fact, it made it much more pleasant in temperature). Definitely a very good course that was fun to play (we were two couples). The one semi-negative is that many of the bunkers contain coral (some have sand) and it not only 'sails' a ball that hits it on the fly, but makes it very tough to hit out of. Overall, a good experience!
The course was in really good condition with almost all tees and greens looking healthy. My wife and I pay this course every year that we visit and always have a fun day on this course. It's worth the drive to play this course.
Perfect day of golf
Well laid out course with enough difficulty to make it interesting. The pace of place was good and the staff very friendly and helpful. Not much shade on the course and windy at times but all in all an excellent outing.
Tradewinds and fowl
Have never played a course while tradewinds gusted up to 30 mph. Very challenging, but you could play. Saw a lot of birds(Nenes, turkeys and some I didn't know so had to take the photos). Viewso f Mauna Kea with the observatories and snow on top on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other were awesome. All the staff very helpful and friendly. Course in great condition. Would have love a drink cart to come by.......Love Waikoloa Village so I had to buy the shirt
Waikoloa Village
It was okay for 18 holes off resort and in the middle of February. The pace of play could be improved. Too many bottlenecks along the way. Very reasonable prices for a course of this level. Fairways and geeens were in good to very good condition. Recommend for an afternoon of golf.
Good value
The price I paid using Golf now made this a great value.
Fun time
Played on a very windy day. The challange was fun and the course was fair. Had a great time.
User Friendly
The staff greeted us at the bag drop and made arrival smooth and easy. The check in at the pro shop was simple and friendly. The course has large landing areas that aid in keeping pace of play at a reasonable level. All in all a pleasurable experience.
Pretty Good Value for Big Island Golf
The course benefits from being about a 20 min drive from the Waikoloa Beach resorts. With the course being at a higher elevation, you get some pretty nice views of the coast. The course itself is pretty wide open. Greens were fairly flat and slow.
I paid $100 on GolfNow. Didn't think it was worth $100, but given its golf in January in Hawaii, I guess that's par for the course.
Spectacular view of three volcanoes
My brother and I only had time to play one course during our visit to the Big Island, and we're delighted with our choice of Waikoloa Village Golf Club. Everyone gave us friendly service. The fairways and greens are well maintained. It's obvious that the staff takes pride in this course. We were also impressed with the spectacular view of three of the Island's five volcanoes. The course is located on the partway up Mauna Kea, which was capped with a fresh layer of snow. Looking to the north, Kohala volcano is in front of you. To the south, you see Hualalai (Kona's volcano). To the west you see the ocean. Gorgeous!
The wildlife also made the course fun to play. On one hole I had to pitch onto the green just 10 paces from a wild goat. We saw two different flocks of wild turkeys and also wild geese.
The fairways are wide, and if you miss the fairway you can usually find your ball without difficulty. On one hole you have to hit over a chasm to get on the green. On a couple of other holes you have to hit over a water hazard.
Most of the sand traps contained pebbles instead of sand. I didn't mind that because when my ball entered the trap it usually took a bounce out of the trap.
There's no "19th hole" at the clubhouse, but the lady with the beverage cart took care of us on the course. My brother and I had a great time golfing at Waikoloa Village Golf Club without spending big money. We would play this course again. It's an outstanding value, and we recommend it without reservation.
Trade Winds or Bust
This is a fun course. Wide open holes off the tees which come in handy if the Trade Winds are blowing. Our round was mid day and winds were a steady 20 MPH. The course is laid out to utilize these winds so lots of difficult approach shots into a head wind or wicked cross wind. The course is on the foothills of Mauna Kea at approximately 1000 ft elevation. Very fast greens but quite fair. Number 9 is the number 1 handicap at 540 yards. The sand traps are the big disappointment for this course due to the crushed coral "cat litter" in them. This is the only material that doesn't blow out of traps due to high winds here.
Nene Bird Haven
Course in very neat condition. Well manicured. Staff friendly and helpful. No marshaling, so back up occurs.
Bonus is the flock of the Hawaiian state bird, the Nene, which occupies this course! So good to see them resurging on the islands!
Why not...Waikoloa village ?
I got a great rate on Golfnow.com and would surely go back again. Staff greeted us and picked up our bags as soon as we pulled into the parking lot. Driving range and practice greens are more than adequate. Cart girl not only had drinks but was even packing spam sushi, if you are so inclined. For a public track, course conditions were pretty good. Bunkers have pebbles instead of sand but I guess it's because the trade winds would blow the sand around, too much ? Winds made some 2nd shots into the green challenging and fun. Local birds (Nene) and wild turkeys roam the course. The holes that play towards the ocean are breathtaking !
Nice course, great price!
Had an amazing time playing this track. It was our first time and we had a lot of fun. Nice staff, great service and overall wonderful experience.
A very enjoyable resort course
This course is a lot of fun--an interesting layout in very good condition. The blue tees (6800 yards) offer a challenge, but landing areas are generous and the greens are large, and I hit most of the clubs in my bag.
The tee boxes and fairways were in excellent shape. The greens didn't look great--maybe it's the time of year-- but they were smooth and rolled well.
There isn't much of a clubhouse here--you'll want to go somewhere else to have a beer and settle your bets.
Great Value
The course is well worth the drive and has some challenging holes, especially with the wind. Some of the views are very nice. I would recommend this course to all travelers to the Hawaii. Mahalo to the staff!
