The Village Course at Waikoloa
About
Nestled between the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes, The Village Course at Waikoloa (formerly known as Waikola Village Golf Club) has a beautiful and unique location that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The verdant, rolling terrain is dotted with stands of young trees and lakes that were incorporated into the golf course’s design. Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course’s designer, tried to maintain the natural assets of the landscape while adding a few challenges such as fairways bunkers and doglegs. The golf course also features traditional raised greens that are subject to forceful prevailing winds. Although the course is challenging enough for the serious golfer, the relaxed pace and beautiful scenery appeal to players of all skill levels. Locals often consider The Village Course at Waikoloa one of Hawaii’s best-kept secrets.

Course was adequate
Course was descent. Some hole had some elevation changes. Course played like a municipal. If your looking to play some golf at a nice pace of play, great place. There wasn't a single hole which was really unique or highly memorable. However, the round was 3.5 hours, staff was friendly, and it was a pleasant. Got a great deal through golf now.com.
Great day golfing!
Beautiful course. Wide open fairways. Medium fast greens. A couple of interesting holes. Nice breeze all day, not windy. Played with two buddies who were new golfers. They had a blast!
A fun and forgiving course
Played a relaxed weekday round here and got an amazing rate. Every staff member was super nice. (2 folks in the proshop, 2 cart staffers and 1 beverage cart) No complaints on the round at all. Some really fun dog legs and the 18th is really fun with a water jump at the end. Fairways are wide and forgiving. Greens were tough on me and my partners all day. Finally had to just disregard my reads and go straight for the pin.
Great value through GolfNow
I really like this course. I've played it on each of our visits to Big Island, and I'm liking it more and more each time. It's been somewhat disparagingly described as a 'municipal course'. Yes, it's a locals course, but the locals are great fun. And remember that Bethhpage and Torrey Pines are also municipal courses.
The holes here are well-designed, with much variety. Yes, it does get windy, but that's golf, and it's never cold. It's a nice but not spectacular scenery course like a Mauna Kea, but neither is it $275 to play. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The greens had been aerated, so they were a bit bumpy...no big deal. And the bunkers utilize some sort of pea gravel instead of fine sand - necessary because of the wind. Yes, it's quirky but playable. Previous reviewer complained about cab fare and bunkers; he didn't do his homework...should have checked with Marriott's concierge.
If planning to play more than a couple of times and have any concerns about costs, this is a great option.
Great calue
Waikoloa Village is not the fanciest course or has the most epic layout but it's a great course for the money spent. If you golf from 2 on, you pay twilight and should have no problems getting in a full 18.
I went off at 1:20 and got around in about 3-3.5 hours and I had two slow groups in front of me.
A fun round
This was my first time playing Waikoloa Village and I had a great time. Very fair track in good condition.
I will play this course again next time I am on the big island
A Deal
Great course for reasonable dollars. Watch out for the wind but a great track to play.
Pebbles, not sand, in bunkers
we played in the wind at the speed of 20 mph or so, thus the round was very very difficult to enjoy. The greens were in fairly good condition. However, the sand bunkers had no sand! Instead, they had DGs or small pebbles. not only was it difficult to play since there was no send, the pebbles damages clubs. that is the Y I will not recommend this course.
Waikoloa village golf
Nice course with friendly people but had to call the pro shop twice to have ranger talk to group in front of us had two open holes in front of them and played like turtles. Hate 5.5hr rounds in the sun!
Great day on the course!
Course is in excellent condition. Greens were fast but in great shape. Wide fairways with well placed bunkers and trees. Water in front of the 18th was perfect way to end the day. Pro shop was organized and helpful.
Highly recommend the course and intend to play it again. We were paired with a couple of singles who play there regularly and provided us with good insight into the course and great companionship.
Fair Course - I expected more
So if your are staying at the Marriott or Hilton like I was in this case I would advise you not to play this course. The Taxi ride alone is a $70 round trip ride for a 6 mile run (no UBER). By the time you pay that and the green fees you are better off playing the Kings Course down the street. I happen to play that course as well and it is a true Golf Resort. Waikoloa Village reminded me of a muni course. The golf shop has no F&B selection, you have to pay for balls to warm up on top of the green fees. Really outside of the nice couple I played with this course was a joke.
Great course for the money
This is a great course for the money. They attempt to keep the pace of play at the optimun as they have a Marshall. The course is in good condition. The holes are challenging!
beautiful views
Well maintained course .. no wind today...rough was manageable. Fun day.
Slow play - fivesomes ahead
We followed 2 groups of 5 Very slow! how come they allow Fivesomes?
Best value on the Big Island
GolfNow makes this an outstanding place to play. There are many interesting holes that give the player a chance to use many of his/her clubs. Have always met nice pardners.
Windy day on Hawaii
Great layout, sunken the to wind, interesting gravel on the sand traps
Sad for resort courses.
First thing I want to say is that for the most part, the staff was great. I played two days, a Saturday and a Monday. The Kings course was ok, greens in poor shape but somewhat playable. The Beach course was just terrible. The greens on the first 7 holes had not been mowed in some time it appeared and when I caught up with the grounds crew on 8, the rest of the greens had been obviously cut that morning. Cut or not, the greens were almost unplayable, I was warned by the starter that there were "a couple greens" that had been affected by some fungus while in actuality, it appeared all the greens on the course were. Also, on a number of the greens, clippings were left on the greens to put through. And finally, to end my complaint, there were two holes that didn't even have a pin on them!
Not what I would consider a quality golf experience especially for a resort course that charges $150 plus plus $25 for a rider.
Disappointing
I played the Beach course from the back tees and it had some scenic holes, but the greens were in poor shape. For $150 I expect greens without burnt out patches. They were also slow, as was the pace of play (waited almost every hole). The first two holes had carries over 200 yards over water from the back tees, especially challenging on the par 3 second hole. Having played the much nicer and spectacular Mauna Lani South course a few days earlier, this one was a bit of a letdown.
Very nice
We stayed at the Village , watched people go by every morning thought it would be nice to play the course, and it was, booked it on golf now pricing was great, enjoyed the 18 hole course, beautiful shape, very nice staff, relaxed dress requirements, had a great time.

This review cannot be for Waikoloa Village Golf Club. It doesn't have a beach course and there is no water on hole number 1 and 2. Also, #2 is a par 4.
You must have played down at
the Waikoloa Beach Resort which is on the coast. Waikoloa Village Golf Course is 6 miles up the mountain from the beach. Too bad you didn't play at Waikoloa Village Golf Club! It's a great course and wonderful people and it wouldn't have cost you $150!
