The Village Course at Waikoloa
About
Nestled between the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes, The Village Course at Waikoloa (formerly known as Waikola Village Golf Club) has a beautiful and unique location that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The verdant, rolling terrain is dotted with stands of young trees and lakes that were incorporated into the golf course’s design. Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course’s designer, tried to maintain the natural assets of the landscape while adding a few challenges such as fairways bunkers and doglegs. The golf course also features traditional raised greens that are subject to forceful prevailing winds. Although the course is challenging enough for the serious golfer, the relaxed pace and beautiful scenery appeal to players of all skill levels. Locals often consider The Village Course at Waikoloa one of Hawaii’s best-kept secrets.

Distant Ocean View Photo submitted by PadraigJ on 10/13/2014
Course was very nice and we had very little wind (which apparently is somewhat unusual).
My only complaint was that the sand traps were more gravel than sand.
First time on the Big Island
First time on the Village course, great rate on tee off .com, Staff was great, from pro shop to starter, to beverage cart .
Played a replay same day , $40 , course was challenging and fun, good greens,
Will play again before leaving the island
Diamond in the rough
Waikoloa Village is a diamond in the rough course. I believe it could be great but is currently good. The staff there are phenomenal. The range and carts are solid. Fairways and greens were in great shape. The only quibble I have is with the choices to go with a kitty litter like pebbly sand in the traps. It’s easily to work through but could be swapped out for something nicer.
Great weather & course
The weather was great, fairways are open so it's hard to lose a ball and the course was in great shape. Very nice practice area.
Just OK. Nothing to write home about
Overall: Course condition was sketchy. Fairways needed mowing, greens were pretty chewed up, and there was no sand in the bunkers...literally. They use small gravel instead. Playing partner had scratches on sole of sand wedge. Pro Shop/Cart barn folks were great and drink cart person was wonderful.
This is definitely a "low cost" course for Hawaii. Especially if you consider Mauna Kea ($$$$) and Mauna Lani ($$$$) in the same area.
However, you can find better value if you get the multiple day (at least two day) package at the Beach Courses at Waikoloa just down the road.
No extras
Nice course, but plan on paying for balls on the driving range, and bring your own water, they don’t provide any. 5 hour rounds are not much fun, but expect that on the weekend.
