Nestled between the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes, The Village Course at Waikoloa (formerly known as Waikola Village Golf Club) has a beautiful and unique location that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. The verdant, rolling terrain is dotted with stands of young trees and lakes that were incorporated into the golf course’s design. Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course’s designer, tried to maintain the natural assets of the landscape while adding a few challenges such as fairways bunkers and doglegs. The golf course also features traditional raised greens that are subject to forceful prevailing winds. Although the course is challenging enough for the serious golfer, the relaxed pace and beautiful scenery appeal to players of all skill levels. Locals often consider The Village Course at Waikoloa one of Hawaii’s best-kept secrets.

Great weather & course

The weather was great, fairways are open so it's hard to lose a ball and the course was in great shape. Very nice practice area.

Just OK. Nothing to write home about

Overall: Course condition was sketchy. Fairways needed mowing, greens were pretty chewed up, and there was no sand in the bunkers...literally. They use small gravel instead. Playing partner had scratches on sole of sand wedge. Pro Shop/Cart barn folks were great and drink cart person was wonderful.

This is definitely a "low cost" course for Hawaii. Especially if you consider Mauna Kea ($$$$) and Mauna Lani ($$$$) in the same area.

However, you can find better value if you get the multiple day (at least two day) package at the Beach Courses at Waikoloa just down the road.

No extras

Nice course, but plan on paying for balls on the driving range, and bring your own water, they don’t provide any. 5 hour rounds are not much fun, but expect that on the weekend.

Golf in Hawaii

Challenging course with great views throughout. Play was a little slow but mainly due to a foursome two groups in front of us. The only thing I didn’t like was the sand traps were pea gravel but I understand the reason. (Strong winds would blow the sand out of the traps)

Nice but?

Beautiful course, but for us expensive. Thankfully we had a golf pass because without it I’m not sure we would play. They also charge locals about a third of what non residents pay. That seems a little steep. We had to rent one set of clubs for $75, & my cousin just rode along for $30 which was $5 less the what a local paid to play. So all told 3 players & 1 ride along for a little over $400. Also the t times are so close so inevitably you’re stacked, & the people behind us were a little impatient to the point of hitting while we were still on green. No rangers, but a nice food & drink cart that by 1 pm was out of a lot.

Need to mow.

Whole coarse needed mowed and pins reset. Rains probably inhibited maintenance. Fun layout.

Very playable

Very pretty course with some distant ocean views. Nothing exciting, but challenging without being unfair and well laid out. Definitely walkable. In good shape. Fine stones in the bunkers were interesting.

Beautiful views !

Really enjoyed the course layout, views and course conditions with the exception of the sand traps. Sand traps were small gravel, not sand . We were reluctant to hit out of the traps to avoid damaging our clubs. Other than the traps it was a great course.

We unfortunately got behind a very slow foursome that held up the course. We should have call the pro shop at around the 9th hole to send a Marshall out to speed them up. They had 2 holes empty in front of them.

All that aside , we would definitely play here again and highly recommend it. Just borrow your friends wedge to get out of the traps ! :)

Not well maintained

The fairways were not mowed and some holes had issues with their maintenance. Also, goose droppings everywhere. Mediocre at best.

Very good, straight forward golf course

Nothing cutesy about this “resort” course. Well maintained; not too tough but has its challenges.

Now the closure controversy is resolved, it’s clear

Sailing!! Enjoy, my friends!!

Helpful staff

We booked our twosome tee time through GolfPass, using a Hot Deal rate. We were fortunate to have a pretty calm day to play, as winds can be a factor here.

We were assisted by a helpful greeter in a cart, as soon as we pulled up at the drop off. Parking was a challenge, as the lot was full. I found one spot on the street, and a staff member drove me back to the ProShop in a cart, which was much appreciated. Arrive early if you can.

The range was very busy, and a large bucket was $12. You can only hit off matts. Putting area is good, and there’s a small chipping area close to the range matts. Carts were quiet, and had an ice-filled compartment. No gps displays.

Teed off at 11:02, but the pace of play was very slow on the front 9, often with a group still waiting on the tee to tee off when we approached. It became much better on the back 9 - guessing that many groups only played 9, and stopped. A refreshment cart checked in with us by during play. Water and restrooms are available on the course.

The course condition was decent, and there are lots of coastal views to enjoy. There’s a white post at 150 yards on the fairways. Rough was fair, but grippy, and required a little more of a ball strike than expected to roll out. The greens were slow, and it was hard to judge pace and line. Looked like they had been recently dressed. Bunkers are not sand, but a fine coral pebble, which I dislike as they are hard on wedges.

The Village golf staff was outstanding, and the golf course adequate.
