Good choice
I don’t need perfectly manicured greens and fairways in order to enjoy a course. I am more of a duffer, but I enjoy the challenge of the play. This course with its friendly staff and good quality greens and fairways was a good fit for me. A few greens and tee boxes were in less than perfect shape. Did not affect play. Plenty of water hazards to play with your psyche.
parking lot
sand tees no grass , rough hardto find ball ,
but green above average . NO rakes at traps
Weeds, weeds, weeds!
It has been a while since I played The Oaks (covid, knee surgeries, etc) and the years have not been kind. the greens are fine, but the tee boxes desperately need work as do the fairways.
Needs work, but still challenge to play.
Played this course many times over the years, and generally is a tough course that will test your game. The lack of maintenance in some facet is hurting a very good course layout. For me there needs to be only three areas that need attention.Tee boxes need some repair or even dirt as it is very sandy, fairway rough need slight more cutting and grass near green needs mowing.greens are fine and bunkers are great.Folks at course are great and doing best they can.I still enjoyed my round with friends and will be back.If anything, this course in present conditions is really good for teaching you to play under not so good conditions, which in my opinion is good for your game in the long run.
Blew my mind
I came to this course with an open mind after reading the reviews, but god those reviews didn’t do any justice. Nothing could have prepared me for how bad the course was. Not a horrible lay out, but having no grass on majority of the tee boxes, unkempt rough, and tee shots with obstructions from trees needing trimming made it for a very, well unpleasant time. The best of the best courses punish players for barley missing the fairways, but here, you are punished not because it is the design, but because of the poor shape of the rough, and the fairways. On a more positive note the greens were in great shape, they rolled very smoothly, a little slow, but we’re very reactive. The staff was friendly, and even gave us a yardage book, which did help. There are many tee shots where those books would come in very helpful for players who do not know the course. Overall, if I, a New Englander who is used to these rates, am paying 45 bucks for a round of golf, I expect a solid public course, or at tee boxes with playable grass, not sand or several inch long weeds. You will not be seeing me back at this course anytime again.
Great course for the value!
Played this course 3 years ago and said I would never be back but so glad we did come back. The course is a little rough in some places but greens were nice and pace of play was great and people were very friendly. I would recommend to a friend for sure. I wish they would issue a monthly snow bird value.
The Oaks
This course is improving a bit since the last few times I have played it. Staff is friendly. Greens weren’t bad.
Course was cut but Lots of dried out grass. Still a work in progress.
Good Layout...Poor Maintenance and Staff
Tee boxes were basically raised sandboxes. Since you are hitting off a tee not a huge deal but aesthetically not pleasing. Very little grass in the fairways. No ranger on the course. A slow 2-some held back the pace. The 4-some we waited on every hole indicated there was a 2-some in front of them that caused the back-up. Greens were actually pretty good.
Clubhouse staff (especially the gentleman) were borderline rude. I arrived in plenty of time and checked in letting them know I had the 9:15 tee time and had pre-paid. The lady was starting the check-in process and the guy bluntly stated "you don't have a 9:15 time, we don't have that as an option". Well my printout from Golf Now clearly said 9:15. Then he continued saying "you are not pre-paid". Fortunately I paused a bit before things got ugly and the lady found my reservation and confirmed my tee time and payment status. There were some reservation issues with the 4-some in front of me and the course finally admitted they had overcharged them a few dollars apiece. Again, not a good visual.
Suffering Neglect
We have played this course as winter residents a number of times each year for some 10 years. It had been in decline in the earlier part but got some attention and new greens a few years back. The remnants of the work on the greens is about all that now remains. The tees are in brutal shape and grass is a scarce commodity most anywhere. There is a fair supply of clover on some holes. Some old fallen trees continue to be around. No rakes in sand traps or supplied with carts. This may be a carry over from Covid, practice but othet courses in the area have returned to normal maintenance. No starter or course ranger. Sadly, it seems course ownership has given up on the property as something like normal golf. The lady in the proshop who was there last year too is a very pleasant and efficient person.
terrible
the course is in terrible condition and not worth the money they want to play it. Course is in need of major maintenance has not been looked for years tee decks are in tough shape greens are poor bunch of dead trees take are down allover the course in the way of play.
Lots of other courses around in the $40 range that are i a lot better shape to play.
