Don’t listen to bad reviews
Most of the fairways and greens were in pretty darn good condition for the reviews on here. Seemed like pins were set away from any blemishes or bad grass. They recently have been doing some major projects including clearing the blind shot on hole 7. Didn’t see anyone until 14th hole wide open, will play again for sure. Dudes were nice and helpful in the clubhouse. Full range and warm up area. Tons of wildlife.
Good deal
For the money, $55 on a Saturday morning, this course was well worth it. There were a couple rough spots on the course but overall it was in very good shape. I’d say a lot of the recent reviews are fair and accurate. I would definitely play again
You need a GPS or local knowledge...
The last time I played this course was at least three years ago. At that point it was during the summer and it was a swamp. Since we've been very dry I thought I would give it another look. Pace of play was great. I went through a twosome on the third tee, and from that point on never caught up to another group. 18 holes in 2 hrs 10 minutes is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Several holes require less than driver off the tee to stay short of water hazards. Without a GPS, or local knowledge of the distance to the water, trying to guess the right club was sometimes a challenge. They have a fair number of lakes in play with forced carries of up to 170 yards and they don't have bail out options for shorter hitters.
Someone really needs to adjust the sprinklers so they are not on the bunkers! Bunkers either had water in them, were hard packed from having had water in them, or had been power raked into furrowed dried mud. There wasn't a splash shot (in the correct sense of the term) that I saw.
New Course with New Friend
Had a pleasant round with Larry, a regular ar the course. The course was in a better condition than many I've played this year. My playing partner was a far superior golfer than me but was comfortable to play with. If the course wasn't over a 1 hour drive, I would make it one of my regulars.
Oaks Improved
Recent efforts to upgrade course are showing in greens that are well maintained and fairways in good shape. Tee boxes and bunkers still need some help. Overall this is a nice track.
I’ll definitely play here again soon.
Coming back from past years down turn.
Don’t write this course off. It is challenging and the new owners are putting a lot of TLC into reviving it to a top course. The difference from last year to this year is amazing. We have been golfing this course over 20 years and are pleased to see the new owners making an effort to revive a course that used to be one of the top courses in the area.
Oaks National - Orlando- could become a hidden gem
I've never seen or heard of this course before. Picked it as a place to play because it was at a very reasonable price and close to where we were staying. And we were overwhelmingly surprised. They've been doing a lot of work on upgrading the clubhouse and Pro Shop area and that is evident. The snack bar has a limited menu and the food is quite good and reasonably priced. The golf course is a very unique design and they've been working hard to upgrade all portions of it. It is a work in progress. And on all but one hole it was fair for all players of any level.. I found the holes well laid out and demanding very precise driving as well as approach shots.. The greens aren't filled with humps and bumps but they still provide a bit of a challenge. The staff is very friendly and helpful. All in all we really enjoyed this experience and look forward to going back again
Good times at Oaks National
Teed off at 4:00 pm as a foursome, 2 boys, 2 men. Played 18 holes before 8:00 pm. Course was empty. Fun little greens with plenty of trouble if you hit your sits off target
Going backwards.
the oaks was making some really nice progress from its past cow pasture status. That seems to have stopped. They need a ranger, really slow play, allowing fivesomes who were clueless to faster groups. Lots of weeds back in the greens. Many of the traps are just packed dirt. Dead trees have been in play since the hurricanes. It is a shame, it is a great layout that needs a little more love.
