Challenging, Tough Course
It is layed out to make you earn your shots. Lots of hilly slant to the fairways. Miss the middle and you can find yourself rolling down a hill into dense weeds under thick oak trees. The day we played the course it was also entertaining wind gusts of 20-30 miles an hour. Needless to say, we didn't have a chance. Still enjoyed the challenge. Threw away the scorecard.
Must play course when in the area.
I played this course 3 days in a row while visiting the area. I am very happy that I did. Fair and Challenging. Great greens. The conditions are immaculate. There is a great practice area. The course is owned by an apparently very affluent oil man that puts a great deal of money into the course and the conditions. The course itself you will read elsewhere is two different nines. Much of the routing is through oaks that makes for a varied and challenging round. I am a 5 index and found that after 2 rounds i knew where to place the ball and had a better score 79 80 76. There is a bit of a breeze that keeps your attention and the area is very cool in the morning even in late June / early July. Dave in the pro shop is great. Loves his course, happy to chat with you about the design, or anything about the club. I really enjoyed playing here and would love to talethis course and plant it where i live. Enjoy!
Loved the layout
So far, the best course I've played in SLO county...Great layout, great condition....A+ driving range.....
eh
course is pretty good except for a few holes on the back nine which were stupid. 22n per person for cart made it 90 to play and it is not worth that
Fantastic!!
Played our 3rd day of our Bi Annual Dukes of Hazards golf trip, and we saved the best for last! Avila Beach was horrible, Cypress Ridge was very good, Hunter Ranch is PERFECT! The day was perfect as there was no wind, with a 10:50 tee time. They must have 12 minute tee times as we never saw the group in front of us. The front 9 starts off faitly benign, the fairways are generous to say the least, although the holes play rather long. (6300 yrds from the whites?). Pay attention to the practice greens as they are every bit as fast and perfect as the greens on the course! I talking perfect and lightning fast! While the fron is pretty opn, with few tree's and generous landing zones, the back 9 get's really tight really fast! A wide open short par 4 starts your back 9, but then the course shows it's teeth! Forced carries over water and danger off the tee awaits your next 6 holes before opening up again for 17 and 18. Course was so fun, we are coming back next year!
Beautiful layout and some scenic views
From all areas of the course it was just beautiful. Greens were in wonderful shape and balls rolled true. Fairways were well groomed left to right and front to back. Just spectacular.
Paso Robles Jewel
Great course with enough to offer to all levels of golfing skills.
Back nine are a tough challenge.
Holes 12, 13 & 14 are blind shots with water in play.
Can surprise you real quick.
Nice track
These are the best greens I've seen on the central coast; fast and true. The fairway conditions also rank as some of the best for our California courses during the drought. The layout is very playable with the greatest challenge determining where to position your tee shots to set up the approach. This course rolls through the hills and oaks with lots of doglegs, elevation changes and up to two clubs of wind. Played it in four hours midweek with a cart.
Great Course
Played Hunter Ranch on a special from Golfmoose.com, so obviously the value was wonderful. We played a Wednesday afternoon and the course was wide open. Despite the 100 degree temperature, the course was very well watered and maintained. Only complaint I have is the bunkers were like hitting off of concrete, they felt like they had just been watered and dried so they were very hard and compacted (I actually putted out of a few of them). Other than that the course played beautifully, some very challenging holes. Staff was very courteous. If you plan on ordering food at the turn, call the grill from the 8th tee box. We called from the 9th and still waited 20 minutes for a couple hotdogs?!?
Too slow!!
This was the second time I've spent the weekend in Paso to play this course on a Sat/Sunday. Excellent restaurant and pro shop and the course layout and setting are awesome. Great driving range also. Here's the rub. The pace of play is horrible and apparently unmanaged. I paid $85 X 4 golfers for both days. $680 total. Saturdays round was 4:40 minutes and Sunday's round was 5 hours. This course is not that long and in 95 degree heat, it seemed to take forever. We called the pro shop when we were approaching the 7th green and reported that we were about to have 3 groups backed up on the 8th tee block. The response was, "I'm alone and we have no Marshal today" They also did not have a drink cart but that's another story.
This was a case, in my opinion, of the golf course making their problem, ours. And many others for that matter. I spoke to the pro shop afterwards to see if this was normal and he said he couldn't leave the shop and that the other pro was giving a lesson so she couldn't help speed up the pace. I felt we should have been comp'd a round...
Other than that, great course.

Weekend + coast + non-avid golfers = 5hrs
Hunter Ranch Ecoerience
Great golf course! Definitely has some challenges holes but fun to play.
This coarse is in fantastic shape!
With the deals we get in Golfnow we can regularly play this coarse.
Need new staff help in pro shop
The guy who checked me in was an absolute jerk. Would not recommend this place at all.
Acted like they were doing me a favor letting me golf there.
First. The course was great. Good conditions, greens are really good. Staff not overtly unfriendly, but acted like it was a chore just to check me in. Reserved with GolfNow. The first thing the guy did was talk a lot of smack about how bad GolfNow is. Which I thought was weird since that's the reason I was there . . . Then they moved my tee time up 30 minutes without asking me. Just some guy came down and told me I was on the tee box, while I was warming up. Normally I don't mind being moved up, but you should ask if it's okay. NOPE. Just get to the tee box. No Marshal. (Didn't need one.) No Cart Girl. (Needed one.) No GPS. No hard alcohol at the bar. No quick food at the turn. Was told that I could wait 10 min for a hot dog. Bottom line, if I'm paying >$100 for a round of golf, need more than just a course in good condition.
Tight course
I play this course once a year due to my league play. The course fairways and greens are in great shape. But, this course can make a mess of your game if the wind picks up. The course is tight and any errant shots will usually result in penalty strokes. The elevation changes are abundant and greens undulations are consistently frightening. Furthermore, watch out for snakes and critters and critter holes where your errant shots usually ends up.
I understand commenting on your experience, BUT, to rate the layout and facilities et all as poor is neither accurate nor fair.
