Paso Robles Jewel
Great course with enough to offer to all levels of golfing skills.
Back nine are a tough challenge.
Holes 12, 13 & 14 are blind shots with water in play.
Can surprise you real quick.
Nice track
These are the best greens I've seen on the central coast; fast and true. The fairway conditions also rank as some of the best for our California courses during the drought. The layout is very playable with the greatest challenge determining where to position your tee shots to set up the approach. This course rolls through the hills and oaks with lots of doglegs, elevation changes and up to two clubs of wind. Played it in four hours midweek with a cart.
Great Course
Played Hunter Ranch on a special from Golfmoose.com, so obviously the value was wonderful. We played a Wednesday afternoon and the course was wide open. Despite the 100 degree temperature, the course was very well watered and maintained. Only complaint I have is the bunkers were like hitting off of concrete, they felt like they had just been watered and dried so they were very hard and compacted (I actually putted out of a few of them). Other than that the course played beautifully, some very challenging holes. Staff was very courteous. If you plan on ordering food at the turn, call the grill from the 8th tee box. We called from the 9th and still waited 20 minutes for a couple hotdogs?!?
Too slow!!
This was the second time I've spent the weekend in Paso to play this course on a Sat/Sunday. Excellent restaurant and pro shop and the course layout and setting are awesome. Great driving range also. Here's the rub. The pace of play is horrible and apparently unmanaged. I paid $85 X 4 golfers for both days. $680 total. Saturdays round was 4:40 minutes and Sunday's round was 5 hours. This course is not that long and in 95 degree heat, it seemed to take forever. We called the pro shop when we were approaching the 7th green and reported that we were about to have 3 groups backed up on the 8th tee block. The response was, "I'm alone and we have no Marshal today" They also did not have a drink cart but that's another story.
This was a case, in my opinion, of the golf course making their problem, ours. And many others for that matter. I spoke to the pro shop afterwards to see if this was normal and he said he couldn't leave the shop and that the other pro was giving a lesson so she couldn't help speed up the pace. I felt we should have been comp'd a round...
Other than that, great course.

Great golf course! Definitely has some challenges holes but fun to play.
This coarse is in fantastic shape!
With the deals we get in Golfnow we can regularly play this coarse.
Need new staff help in pro shop
The guy who checked me in was an absolute jerk. Would not recommend this place at all.
Acted like they were doing me a favor letting me golf there.
First. The course was great. Good conditions, greens are really good. Staff not overtly unfriendly, but acted like it was a chore just to check me in. Reserved with GolfNow. The first thing the guy did was talk a lot of smack about how bad GolfNow is. Which I thought was weird since that's the reason I was there . . . Then they moved my tee time up 30 minutes without asking me. Just some guy came down and told me I was on the tee box, while I was warming up. Normally I don't mind being moved up, but you should ask if it's okay. NOPE. Just get to the tee box. No Marshal. (Didn't need one.) No Cart Girl. (Needed one.) No GPS. No hard alcohol at the bar. No quick food at the turn. Was told that I could wait 10 min for a hot dog. Bottom line, if I'm paying >$100 for a round of golf, need more than just a course in good condition.
Tight course
I play this course once a year due to my league play. The course fairways and greens are in great shape. But, this course can make a mess of your game if the wind picks up. The course is tight and any errant shots will usually result in penalty strokes. The elevation changes are abundant and greens undulations are consistently frightening. Furthermore, watch out for snakes and critters and critter holes where your errant shots usually ends up.
Hunter ranch in paso
I really enjoyed this course, my first time playing hunter. The course had a great environment , from the driving range to the practice green. I was a little disappointed that there was not a full bar. Would have also loved to have seen some visors in the pro shop, not the old lady ones either. Maybe a splash of color to them also. But hey I'm nitpicking this was a great experience .. Fantastic greens great layout. My buddy is a beginner and still enjoyed himself. Challenging but fair. Maybe an exception is the par 5 where I hit an incredible tee shot to a blind area. Found myself behind a tree in the middle of the fairway. However still had a birdie putt. Can't wait to get back out there. Pro shop staff was very friendly. 79*
expansive views
nice layout with some challenging holes. windy
Beautiful course
Had a great time! Couse was in great shape! Just sad that on a Thursday it took 51/2 hours need to speed it up!
5 Stars in February!!
Just played Hunter Ranch, first time in several months, and surprised its great playing condition. Fairways were green and smooth & Greens were perfect. Weather was sunny without much of wind. Recommend playing from back tees for once a while, realize its challenging set up. I'll always take my friends from out of town to Hunter and they always praise ideal outings. Come out to Paso Robles and play Hunter Ranch, worth the money and time!!
Great views
The course was in great shape, greens were also in great shape. The staff was friendly.
Great day at Hunter Ranch
Beautiful afternoon midweek round. Weather was awesome, price was great, course was in great condition, staff was friendly and helpful and we really didn't see another group close to us all day. 2 of us played in about 3 1/2 hours riding. Greens were quick but smooth so you could make some putts. Front is pretty straight forward, the back was a little different with some blind shots where some course knowledge would help. Certainly worth the time and $ to play.
fun course to play.
many holes require a long drive so consider moving up one set of tees if you are not a long hitter. greens are fast but roll true, and they are in fabulous shape. in fact the whole course is in terrific shape, had a great time.
Watch out for the Oaks
This Friday was not one of our better experiences, had to play the front twice, we made the turn but by the time we hit 11 there was at least a 10+ minute wait on the T-Box with people everywhere.
I normally enjoy the course, it's quite challenging and I have played it a lot. For the first timer, stay out of the trees even if its sacrificing distance, club down and play smart the first few times and you will enjoy it a lot better. As in the Peanut's cartoons, Charlie Brown is always menaced by the "kite eating" tree, well, Hunter has hundreds of ball eating" Oaks.
Enjoy.
Good solid ccurse & great winter course
I've been meaning to get put to Hunter Ranch for a year now. Wasn't dissapointed. Yes it is a challenging course but not overwhelming. Greens roll true and fast with predictable breaks. Because almost every hole has some sort of slope to it the fairways have drained well and are in excellent shape with all of the recent rain.
I would have switched the pro shop with the bar/restaurant so patrons could enjoy the sunset while overlooking the 18th green.
Good Play
Played under drought conditions and the greens had been punched a week before. The layout of the course is great - a lot of variety in challenges: lakes, hills, gullies, some sand. Although the course doesn't favor a draw, I was able to play mine successfully around the course. It was a thoroughly enjoyable round of golf. I will play it again when in the area and the greens are at 100%.
