Good, but not full price good.
Ended up playing Palm and Pine. Both sides were equal (not good, but not bad). Greens were okay and course was okay but the cart path felt like I was driving on 290 in the middle of all the construction. Do yourself a favor and just drive in the grass almost the whole way. Course was good but pace of play ( played with one other gentleman the first 9 and joined up with a man and his wife the last) was poor the first 9. We got stuck behind another 2-some whose skill level was not quite up to our so we waited for them on every tee and fairway. I would recommend it if you can find it for around $20 because that is all it is worth to play out here. Do not pay full price.
Positive progress to improve
over 2 years since I played Longwood and found very positive progress to improve course condition. Always has been one of the most unique course layout in the Houston area with 3 enjoyable and challenging course design. Recovering from sever weather flooding events, the effort I see is very promising. I highly recommend and will support their efforts to offer an upper level of golf play. Their staff is has never wavered and are very professional and sincere. Robert Muniz
They are working hard to improve the course. You can see where they are killing off some of the goose/crab/nut grass on the greens so there are some bare spots but itshould fill in pretty quick. They are trimming back the underbrush to improve air flow. There is still a lot of work to go to bring it up to Cypress Lakes standards but they are moving in the right direction.
First Time
Pace of play was ridiculously slow, it took two of us 4 1/4hrs to play 18 holes, had we not driven out one hour across town to play we would have skipped around and or just left after nine holes. This was our first time paying this course so we manned-up enough patience to wait it out. We played the Palmetto and Post Oak courses, to me the course was very nice, somewhat challenging, course just played well for me all day. Greens were nice, some need some work nearer the rough, soft but firm, played slow in the morning and then fast as they dried up. Fairways were nice, couple thin spots here and there but overall good conditions. I will definitely make another trip out to play and recommend the course, lets hope pace of play is much better!
Pine side
The 9 holes on the Pine side are in horrific conditions. The tee boxes were either undercut or dug up, the bunkers were dirt pit, the fairways had little to no grass and the greens still have not recovered from the last aeration. I enjoy getting out and playing golf as much as anyone else but with the condition of the Pine side which we had to play as the front and back, I would have rather stayed home and did yard work.
I normally play Palm and Post which I must say are in the best shape I have ever seen them. Of course this was only because of the tournament host over the weekend. The course employees failed to mention while I was there and played just 2 days before that there was a tourney being hosted.
The poor scheduling is on me, but the Pine side conditions are on them.
Good Layout...Terrible Conditioning
This course is down the street from me, so it should be my first choice course when I am looking to play. However, over the past 2 years or so that I have played this course (more than 10 times), there has only been 2 rounds where I would say the conditions were "playable". The most typical condition problems are the greens and bunkers. The greens are typically rolling about a 4 or less on the stimp meter (Ben Hogan would tear these greens up!) or have large areas with no grass and exposed earth; this happens about 50% of the time I am out there. Also, the conditioning of the greens can vary widely between the 3 nine hole layouts, so your front/back nine green conditions can be significantly different. The bunkers are not playable probably 75% of the time; I have seen small trees growing in them and they do not appear to be raked or maintained on any sort of regular schedule. Occasionally pace of play is an issue as the clubhouse likes to over book the course especially when they will host a tournament (tournament players get priority over daily fee players from what I've seen). This can mean you tee off normally and then have to wait upwards of an hour at the turn as they feather you into players coming off of another nine. Also, this course has tons of foursomes scoring in the triple digits who do not play ready golf, but this issue plagues every public course and marshalls appear to have no authority. With the bad, the course layout is fun, varied, and challenging although there are many short par 4s throughout the course that require teeing off with a mid-iron even from the back tees (which can get annoying for better players). The fairways are ample, but wayward shots tend to go into thick trees or brush and make for interesting recovery options. There are also a lot of risk/reward shots along the way and the hazards are well placed. The few times of year that the course is in good shape, I always enjoy my rounds out there and even the conditioning doesn't keep me away for very long as I am always hopeful that they will someday figure out how to manage this course.
Beautiful Day - Good Value
Beautiful weather helped make this a good value. The course was in good condition (greens were a bit slow) but given the damage they had last year with flooding they have done a remarkable job getting the course back into good playing shape. I hope to go back sometime and will definitely recommend this to my golf buddies.
Longwood
Love this course! I had a great time even though it's tucked in a neighborhood, they found a way to keep the courses away from houses as much as possible. The greens were firm and in great shape.
Dusty
Had been quite dry lately so expected it to be dusty and was not disappointed. Fairway grass very sparse even for winter. So approach shots very challenging, easy to hit fat off the concrete.
Palmetto/Pine course
I enjoyed the lay out of the course, it is not a flat lay out course. It is a challenging course, if you want a more challenge just go back at the tee box and try your best. Most fairways have a nice landing area, your second shot can be extremely difficult due to elevation change, the greens were in good condition based on the time of the year(February). I am looking forward to playing the course again. This course has 3, 9 hole courses, each hole has a large detailed picture of the hole with measurements at each feature i.e., bunkers, water, tree cluster, front and back green. Two of the courses are intermingled but the directions are good and easy to follow, just watch for signs and arrows.
The employees were all friendly and I met one starter that had work there 23 years, which says a lot for the owner. I liked the course enough to join their Loyalty group which gives you a discount on the course, driving range, and merchandise in the club house.
Longwood Friday 11/25
Course was wet and overbooked never saw drink cart
Thursday afternoon
A lot of standing water due to rain. Would love to play it gain when it dries out. Nice layout
Good conditions
The course was in pretty good condition from the tee box to the green. There were some areas roped off but for the most part it was all good. The fairways were playable.
Floods and take your own water
Nice layout but the course floods with little rain and all the bunkers are full of water. Saw the beverage cart come around 1 time on the front nine, so bring your own drink also they could use more water stations. Pro shop staff is rude.
