VERY Poor Condition!
I have been playing Longwood for 20+ years. I have been a member off and on for the past 5 years. I played the Palmetto course today with my daughter and the course is probably in it's worst condition EVER!!!
We decided to play it since we live close and my daughter only plays 9 holes at this time.
(Still charged $21.95 for a 12 year junior player.....what a joke)
The guy at the Pro Shop gave me limited info when I ask how the condition of the course is. He said; the course is in pretty good shape, but some of the sand traps are under repair. He said thet are still repairing some things since the floods back in May.(4 months ago.....)
I have played Municipal course in better shape....The price that they are charging are ridiculous ........ $50- $70 prime time and $35 after 3pm.....
Couple years ago when I met the new owners, they said they were investing over $3 million in renovation....they rehabbed the restaurant and bar and forgot the golf course upgrades. And of course - increased food and drink prices.
If you want to waste your money at a VERY POORLY kept course....play at Longwood.
Nice layout, bad drainage
I enjoyed the layout. The fairways and greens were good. The rough, sand traps and tee boxes need work. The course had heavy rain the day before but the drainage system was not able to handle it. Lot's of standing water on the cart paths. Over all it was ok for the price of $52.
On the Decline
When I first moved to the Houston area 2011 and started playing golf regularly, this course was in pretty good shape back then and they cost was reasonable. However, over the years the course conditions have been on the decline, while the prices have be on the raise.
I play golf every weekend and I use to play this course about once a month, but now I'm reluctant to play there because of the rate, and the conditions of course, especially the greens. Of all the courses within a 10 mile radius of Longwood, they have the worst greens by a mile.
We had fun.
Longwood is one of my fav courses. Of course, after the flood, it was damaged a bit, but the staff are freaking awesome. I'll def go back.
one last try, epic fail
Had not played this course in a while and was thinking it may have improved under new management. I was wrong, it actually got worse.
Staff was incredibly rude (pro shop) and unprofessional (cart barn/maintenance guys driving up to tee box instead of waiting another 30 seconds while I am standing there trying to tee off), course was in horrible condition, no cart girl mid-late afternoon (3:30-4:00) with crowded golf course and 100 degree weather, food in restaurant was below average at best, it was a free for all on the course with people jumping all over the place - had 2 groups show up out of nowhere in front of us only to disappear to another 9 a hole or 2 later and 2 groups and a single pop up behind me (the single showed up in different places 3 times while we were out there). I was playing as a single with my wife riding along, so there was no way any group of 3-4 would have caught up to us.
Horrible experience; will never go back.
First time at Longwood
Pines was closed down for repair, should be opening back up. My only gripe about this course was the bunkers. From my understanding they're going to work on them next. Lots of standing water and just bad bunker conditions overall.
What could have been
Wonderful layout that has been destroyed by the floods and lack of resources. 1/2 the tee boxes are weeds or dirt, all bunkers are unplayable and majority of fairways are spotty at best. Cart paths should all be replaced as well.
Living within 5 minutes of Longwood brings me back every few months in hopes of improvement. Steady decline is all I seem to find. Unless this course changes management or ownership it should be thought of as a 20.00 course.
Disappointed
Cart paths had dips full of water, lots of bare spots around all cart paths. Probably due to the rain we had. $46.00 to much for the conditions at 2 O'clock on a Sunday
Golf at Longwood
Enjoyed the round of golf.
A personal favorite
I've played this course several times and it's easily one of my favorite courses in the Houston area. Great layout and landscape with a secluded feel and holes providing all levels of difficulty.
I can't wait to play it again.
Great condition
Course was is great condition considering recent floods. Greens were spot on
Longwood - Still a Disappointment
We tried Longwood again after reading a few positive reviews. I live close to Longwood and would love to be able to report that enough improvements have been made to make it part of our groups course rotation, but unfortunately it will probably be another 3 years before we give Longwood another chance.
The Positives - Clubhouse staff and starter were friendlier than we remember.
The Not-So-Positives - Tee box areas are small, weedy and not flat. Fairways had been aerated but the chunks of dirt were left on the ground. Greens had many bumps and ballmarks and were extremely slow. Sand traps were completely unplayable.
The Unforgivable - Round took 6 1/2 hours due to one foursome directly in front of our group that by the time we reached the 10th hole had fallen SEVEN HOLES behind the group in front of them. For the last 2 hours there were a steady stream of carts passing us from behind as most everyone just gave up and quit. Not a single marshall was spotted the entire day.
Perhaps some day the Cypress Lakes group that has taken over the Longwood golf operation will correct some of these issues. Until then, as much as I would like to be able to recommend Longwood, just can't do it.
Nice layout
Played for the first time and wished I had come out sooner. Course was in good condition considering the time of year. Liked the layout although the pace of play was a bit slow. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.
Good round
Course layout is challenging and fun.
Fairways were dry due to time of year and ball rolled extra 20 + yds.
Greens were a little bumpy but in fair condition.
Great course to play!
Improved Greens
The greens have improved a great deal since the last time I played the course!! I played Pine/Palmetto combo. This course has negative reviews because of their greens, but it looks like course management has taken it to heart and they are working on it. The tee boxes looks like their next step at improving, since a lot of them don't have a lot of grass, some none,so give it some time. Longwood staff, thanks for listening to our reviews.
I found the fairways in good condition
If you've never played this course, I recommend it.
All 27 holes area a pleasant challenge.Trees line the entire course, but the fairways are generous.
The greens have nice undulating breaks, but nothing too severe. Several tees to choose from depending on handicap.
The fairways have slopes and mounds to keel your next shot interesting.
Don't waste your money here-STAY AWAY
When you first walk into the pro shop you are greeted by a rude gentleman behind the counter. You then proceed to the starter to check in for the cart but another rude employee who only cares if he finishes his Sudoku. We approached the tee box 10 minutes early & had to watch 3 groups tee off ahead of us. The pace of play was horrible all round as we had to wait about 5-10 minutes every shot. The fairways, rough & bunkers are in horrible condition. The greens are in horrible condition, like they put sand down on the entire green then spray painted it green to appear nice. Every single tee box is tore up and the sand they use to fill the divots does not have grass seed. It took 5 1/2 hours to play a round of golf. It was $60 to play a round which is highly over-priced for the condition of the course & the way the employee behind the pro shop desk & starter treat you. This course is 5 minutes from my house but I would rather drive 45 minutes to a better course & spend my money there.
Fun and Challenging Course
Played Pine to Palmetto and had a great time. Pines is definitely challenging but has a fun design. The greens were recently worked on and not very good conditions.
A little disappointed
Went and played Longwood pine and Palmetto yesterday. It was a beautiful day, they over booked Pine and it took us for ever to get the first 9 holes in. When we finally got to Palmetto an older man jumped in front of us and took his time even though the sun was disappearing fast. Needless to say we did not finish.
