The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Battleground golf course
Was our first time playing the course, and was very surprised with the nice club facility and friendly staff. The course was in good shape and had a lot of fun playing. The course did have its challenges as usual, but overall was the least amount of balls. I’ve lost in a long time.
Bad greens
For the price you pay would expect better green conditions
No food ors drinks
The snack bar and restaurant were closed so we left after nine holes. The restaurant is one of my favorite things there. There should be noticed that it will be closed before we start to play not after the fact..
Battleground
Good course but the tee boxes and greens were in bad shape
Over Booked
When we arrived for our tee time they had no carts available. We were 10 mintues late to tee off because we were waiting on a cart. By the time we got to the 5th tee box there were 12 deep waiting to tee off. Our group left because I dont have 5 hours to sit and wait to play a round of golf.
Terrible Greens and Rock Hard Tee Boxes
Every green on this course is in horrible shape. They're almost unplayable. Also, you'll need to pack a hammer drill in your bag so you can bore a hole in the rock hard dirt tee boxes. And one of the par 3's was closed for maintenance which wasn't disclosed before booking so we payed $49 to play 17 holes in terrible shape. This course was once pretty decent, but management, or lack of, has run it into the ground. Don't book a round here until they fix the problems, if they ever do.
Greens are not good
We love the layout but, the greens and tee box areas are horrible. Starter was great and funny. Made you feel welcomed.
However, the greens are horrendous.
Temporary greens
The course is in good shape for this time of year. Working on several greens with temporary greens in a couple of places.
Decent Muni
All the tee boxes are hard as a rock, you're battling the ground just trying to get tees in hence why the place is called Battleground lol
Poor conditions
Usually I love this course but the green are in extremely bad shape. They are adding drainage but the real problem is how bad the greens are. There is large sections on the green where there is no grass. This condition has been a problem for a few years now. The tee boxes are not in the best of shape either. I broke more tees trying to tee up a ball than hitting the ball. management really needs to take a hard look at the conditions of their course.
The greens need work, and several are closed for maintenance.
Battleground Golf
Greens need much work. Pace on weekends are slow.. it’s a pretty course with much water and sand. Tough for beginners.
