The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Average plus
Fairways are good. Tee boxes and greens are below average. In my opinion it’s priced higher than it should be under current conditions. Should definitely get a break when there’s no green on two holes. And most the greens are fairly rough. We played a round in 3.5 hours, but had a Marshall ask us to let a group play through cause of slow play? So we waited on them the next 5 holes. Still managed to have a great time. Love the layout of the course. Just wish it was in better shape.
In rough shape.
Sadly, Battleground has seen better days. The weather hasn’t helped but it’s very overpriced for a course in very poor condition
Horrible ,absolutely horrible course conditions. Greens fairways. Tee boxes were nothing but dirt. Temp green on nine but not noted on Golfnow page. We were a twosome in the mix of all foursomes. Waiting was understandable. But we made the turn and stopped like everyone else for drinks and raw hotdogs/stale buns. We were in the fairway on ten with no one on the green. Marshal cut across told us to pick up the pace. Said we were behind 4somes all day. He checked and came back and at least apologized.
golf cart
i paid in full green fee includes cart.
when i checked in they gave me a cart number. But there was no such number then i realize they want me she cart . bus they had short of cart . that's ok. i can share it but they insist i paid half cart.
However it took me foever to find that cart where is across street drive range.
Over all they treat me not as usual.
Worst Experience in 30 Years
I have never in my 30 year golf career had a worse experience. Our tee time was 30+ minutes behind while we waited for a golf cart! The entire staff was completely lost on what to do. The manager even started an argument with me to explain it wasn't their fault after the starter told us there were 20+ carts out of commission. We only played 9 holes of the 18 we paid for, and were berated from the manager. This place is a joke and cannot be called a golf course. They could give me free rounds for life, and I would never go back. GolfNow needs to drop them immediately especially after
I paid online and my dad, who always beats me to the course, paid in full. We both paid with credit cards and fortunately are protected. Don't waste your precious free time or hard earned money on the worst course in TX. $50 Green fee and a full day off headache is the last thing I want anybody else to endure.
After the rain
The course was in the worst shape as I have ever played it. I understand we just had a lot of rain last week, so I understand that they weren’t mowed. The problem was they were still very inconsistent. Some were soft and slow and some were bare and like concrete. I will play here again and I love the layout, but this time was disappointing to me.
Pleasantly surprised
I was pleasantly surprised by this course. I've honestly only heard horrible things, but recently heard some good, so I decided to give it a try. Course has a very good layout. Ball placement is important. Fairways are nice. Traps are playable. Greens were in good condition. I'm a 15 handicap, and shot a 91 first time out. I plan to play again very soon.
Much Improved
First time playing course in over a year. The course is much improved, greens are good and roll smooth. The tee boxes still need so work. The only complaint was the group of SIX in front of us that thought they were playing the masters. Marshall was on the course but never broke the up.
