The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Pleasantly surprised
I swore I would never go back to this course several years ago, but I’m pleasantly surprised after day. The course was much improved. Their greens were very good. T boxes need some help. But hey!
Only negative is there was a 5 some playing ahead of us and no help getting through them. If you are playing a 5 some let people play through.
I’ll definitely go back!
Good value for the price.
Had not heard the best things about this course from friends who had played it. (Not recent) so didn’t expect much, but was presently surprised. The course and greens were actually really well kept. Water on almost every hole so it’s a little challenging because you almost have to hit the fairway on each hole.
Only downfall, we played early Sunday morning and amenities were lacking but outside of that, we had a great day on the course and will def play there again.
Fine round after rainy days.
Very little standing water. Greens were perfect! Weather cooperated-- overcast turned to cloudy, then turned to sunny.
Course
Nice pace of play. Starter was very nice and accommodating
Battleground
Please add some yardage signs to the range. The course has come a long way in the last 6 months.
Wet Course
Course was wet from rain over night, other than that course was in good condition.
Overall great day to play golf. The greens are in the best shape that I have seen them in quite some time. They were running fast and pretty receptive. I hope that things continue to go in this direction for the course. The started was very helpful with making sure that you get a good pace of play.
Battleground was the Greens!
Overall the course is great. Except the greens were in poor repair. The weather/dry conditions definitely have taken a toll on the putting stage.
Good course overall
Battleground was a good course overall. Greens were a little bare and had some bad spots on them. Course was in decent shape. Very slow pace of play. Had some kind of tournament or large group slowing everyone down. Course is challenging in some areas where you have to have a great drive and carry over water or plan to lay up. Recommend to others and will play again.
Surprised
First time I played at Battleground it had rained for a few days and it was soggy in a bad way. My 13 yr old son slipped on the mud and landed in a huge puddle on the 16th hole. Soaking wet he still put his next tee shot to 10 feet on 17. We swore never to go back.
I got a hot deal and it hasn’t been raining, I decided to give it a go. What a difference! It was well maintained, the greens, although had a few bare spots, ran true and were fast. Had a great time and really enjoyed it!
Not What It Use To Be
Battleground use to be a nice course for the price and amenities but the last few year have been poor. The greens are full of weeds and sand spots, cart service is poor, cart quality was 10x better 6 or 7 years ago and the range is sub par when it’s open or has range balls available. Not sure how they keep any members. Only way I’ll play there now is on a hotdeal and I live 3 minutes from the clubhouse.
