The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Wet
Played with my 13 year old. Staff was great. Due to Labor Day Holiday, price was higher than quoted by GolfNow. Quoted $36.00 paid $50.00 each.
Course was wet. It was a fun layout. The greens had some damage, but rolled surprisingly true. Will try to play it again when it is not so wet.
Leaving the 16th green the boy decided to run and beat me to the cart. Slipped on the mud and into a massive puddle. Soaking wet and muddy he approached the all water carry, 17th tee and put it to 15 ft. Trooper.
Great Job
Course is in great condition. A little water standing on cart paths, but greens and fairways were in great condition. Staff were very friendly. Pace of play was awesome. No one hitting into you and no waiting behind a foursome ahead of us (3 some)
Great golf course
From the moment I parked my car I was greeted and driven to the club house
They were friendly and helpful and they introduced me to a early senior group
I was invited to play and had a great time
The course was beautiful The greens true and I played 18 holes in 3/1/2 hours
Had a great lunch Bought a logo shirt and headed home
When I return to that area I will definitely make a tee time
Not too Bad
This place could be better. But for sure this place deserves a better review than what’s on here. I would come back. It’s a decent place to play. I had a lot of fun.
Plugs
The green's and tee boxes had been plugged Monday, I played Thursday
Greens we're bumpy
Tee boxes still had plugs All over them
Tees we're moved 100 to 150 yards forward (why that far)
Course was essentially cut in half.
Was the price ?
Of course NOT
Pricey round for poor quality of play
The course is in below average shape for the price of the round. Not sure if it was the people playing or course management but we had to wait 10-15 minutes at every tee box for the two groups in front of us to tee off. Either way, the Marshal should’ve taken control, we had a group of 3 and it took us 5 and a half hours to finish a round.
Great Game
Everything was in good shape and course played well. Groundskeepers doing a.good job getting greens in. better shape!
Battleground
Due to the upstairs construction, there was just a single restroom for men. The staff were kind and professional, which was appreciated. But I probably wouldn’t play there again till the upstairs is complete!
Not terrible
Lots of bad reviews that aren't really fair. Sure there are crappy spots on at least half the greens. But everything else is in good shape given the weather. Well worth $25 probably even $30
Worst condition I’ve seen in Houston
This course was once a beautiful course and well worth the free fee to play. I don’t know what has happened but it’s not just drought causing course conditions. 15 of the 18 greens are a joke. #3, a par 3 should just be shut down. The green has holes and full of actual sand traps and burnt patches on about 80% of the green. Legit sand traps on greens is inexcusable. Clearly at this point management no longer cares and simply collects green fees to collect them.
The clubhouse is closed. No pro shop. No cart girl. No coolers anymore on the golf carts. All this is in conditions of 100 degree play. Marshall wasn’t even around to control pace of play or groups teeing off at wrong times causing huge backups on the first hole!
I usually play this course about 10 times a year but this will be my last time until I hear course conditions have improved.
Take your money anywhere but here.
Still in bad shape
4 of the 18 greens are in really good shape. The other 14 have various levels of dead spots on them. Most of them have dead spots on the fringe and don't really impact putts. About 5 or 6 greens have dead spots all over them and make them basically unplayable.
