The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Horrible Conditions and Snack Bat
The greens were the worse I've played on in a long time. The front 9 was unputtable.
We teed off at 1:30, made the turn at 3:30 and snack bar closed. No water, food, anything.
I've enjoyed playing their in the past but will not play there again.
Worse course for the money
Greens in the front 9 were mostly dirt and not maintained at all.
They over boom the tee times and the pace of play is extremely quick left little room to actually enjoy the game, felt pressured the whole time even when I was waiting on the group in front of me, still felt pressured,
The back mine greens are better but not worth bragging about.
The score card is not accurate as to the distance of the tees and boxes, snack cart had mainly beer, as well as snack bar which closes early at 3:30 when you can play till 6. You cannot take any personal coolers so if you plan to play during the summer get there early enough to buy water
Greens are horrible and can’t buy a drink after 3:30
I live 3.5 hours south and on a four day four course long weekend. My friend and I have played this course before and it was on our list to play again.
On the font nine the greens were horrible. Putting was not an option because there was limited grass and our golf balls bounced around like ping pong balls. Back 9 greens better but still rough. At least we could putt on the back 9.
On the turn at 3:30 pm we went to snack bar for drinks. They’re closed. It’s 90 degrees outside and they close.
If I was the owner/manager I’d have signs up about course rules on greens because of conditions. A nice apology for the greens would be nice. As for the snack bar, is you’re plan to make money? If so, open it. You have kids there practicing and the course was stacked. I know the restaurant had a fire and closed but your snack bar should be open till your close.
Course is nice!!! BUT
The staff was very nice and friendly, course looks amazing…. And was amazing to play…. But….
One it was too busy. We have two teams of 4 In front of use that where playing very slow… took about 15 min each new hole just waiting to tee off… FIX maybe space out the tee times a little more…
2. At the time we went the greens where in horrible conditions… half of them looked like mini bunkers.
That is all other then that this place was AMAZING!! We will be back to play again when the greens are fixed or fully recovered.
Not worth the green fees.
Very disappointed. Hard pan fairways and front nine greens atrocious (chopped up, no grass in many spots). Temporary check in area. Clubhouse closed due to fires. Probably a disgruntled player set it afire. Quit after front nine.
Give it some time?
Liked the course a lot, just in pretty rough shape. Guess it was a lot worse after the freeze. Front 9 greens are near unplayable sand traps. Back 9 is in much better shape. Not worth the full priced fees. Look forward to going back once it’s in good shape. Or if they adjust green fees temporarily. Staff were helpful and nice.
Good course
The front nine the greens are not the best. The back nine greens are much better. There is minimal food like chips or crackers because of a fire they have no pro shop or club house.
Battle Ground
The front 9 w greens were being sanded and plugged with most of the greens being dead and un- puttable .
There were no water kegs on the course the day I went . Most of the holes had temp tee boxes for white and Blue, the club house / Bar was closed. If I had been notified of all this I would not have played there.
Bad shape
The clubhouse burned down so the amenities were lacking. But, that’s understandable. The greens were freshly punched and sanded. The fairways were dry and hard as cement, there were plenty of ground under repair areas. No repaired divots anywhere. Everything was just in horrible shape yet you still pay 50 bucks a round. One positive I will add is that the bunkers were actually redone and raked for once.
Course is in terrible condition.
Have played this course many times. They have had green issues before but generally the course is in fairly good condition. Unfortunately the whole course is not in good condition at all. From the tee boxes all the way to the greens, the course needs a lot of work. Some fairways were not even mowed and very few greens did not have dead spots. I love the layout but will not return to this course until I see better reviews.
