The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

needs a new greens keeper and superintendent
This course needs a total redo of aeration and grass. there was no where on the course where it wasn't like hitting off of cement (ok, to be fair, the bunker sand was actually very good).
I know greens were redone on the front years ago, but one could not tell, please, either spend money to make the greens better, or give up on them and make the fairways playable.
Or maybe the tee boxes, our group played off of yellow and white, and most of the time, I needed a hammer to put my tee in the ground. seriously, awful. and most of the white tee boxes were just 2 stakes stuck in the middle of fairway. and then, what is up with the red tees, why are they all 150 yards from every hole except par 3s?
Greens were better on the back nine, however I don't think the holes have ever been changed, its like their hole cutter got lost at the beginning of the pandemic. The edges were worn out on some holes to like 6 inches.
Bottom line is not worth the $35 we paid. Sad because the layout could make for a very fun course.
Poor Condition of the Course
Too many greens with crab grass and sand. Too many tee boxes that were hard as a rock and completely sand.
Brrrrr!
Temperature in the 40's with wind from the north blowing in excess of 25 mph. Our foursome quit after nine holes.
The tee boxes were mostly dirt-- sometimes loose and sometimes so hard it was difficult to use a tee. The fairways are hard. The greens need to be looked after.
Below average
The course has a great layout, unfortunately the condition of the course was less than stellar. I know that the time of year has something to do with it but there were many thin and hard pan places in the fairways. Some of the greens were in poor conditions as well. Some of the tee boxes were so thin and hard, you couldn’t even get a tee in the ground. Overall, I love the layout but the condition could be improved.
Course over played.
Course was over played. Tee boxes bare. Greens visible over foot traffic to/from cart path. Greens were in fair shape. Fairways were less than fair.
4:00 $20 Round
I love the $20 round at 4:00. I get off work at 3:30 and play there at that time very often. Greens are finally coming back. The staff is always awesome and the food and bar is great. Love the pay for your first beer what ever your score was. Also they provide free ice. Battleground is just a really cool place to play. The condition is getting better also. Thanks to the staff for making the course better.
Par None
The course was fair overall. It was golf cart path only due to water on the course. Pace of play was good. The tee boxes were terrible. Fairways were okay. Greens were freshly arerated. Roll was slow on front nine and faster on back nine. Paying online was cheaper than at the course. I wouldn’t play battleground for the cost if I had to pay at the course. Too expensive for the way the course looked. GolfNow kept my price low. I will play this again. Thank you GolfNow!
The greens are coming back nicely.
I love playing Batleground most of the time. I really love the $20 round at 4:00 since I get off at 3:30 from work and play then. The staff has always been so great and friendly. I love they provide free ice most days and all the Marshalls are awesome!! The greens were really bad but they are really getting nice. My only complaint is who ever is setting the pins is ridiculous. On side hills and peaks. When the greens get really good and fast it will not be fun with them in those positions. Keep up the great work Battlegroud Joe H and Craig C really appreciate it very much.
The greens are finally coming back but….
The range ran out of balls, happens there often. Also we were behind 2 foursomes that each had their own cart. Play was pretty slow. I feel like they need to fix some issues but at least the greens are coming back. If the price was lower it would be worth it but I guess they can get away with it cause they stay busy. I’m sure it’s the location.
Nice value
Good value for the money. Pretty good condition. Fun
Front desk
I had reservations for 3 but only 2 showed up.i paid for 3 n I asked for 2 carts n I was denied.i asked to speak to to a manager with no luck.i was asking for what I paid for,2 carts due to COVID outburst.not sure why I was denied 2 golf carts when I paid for them n then he would not reimburse me for the 3rd individual that did not show up.
