The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Nice Greens
Went on a windy day so couldn't really have the best time... I plan on going back soon though.
A bit hot
Everything was great as usual at battleground. It was just a bit to hot during game play. But that's our falt do playing at the hotest part of the day.
Slow pace of play
It is frustrating to see fivesomes playing on a Saturday morning, usually members gambling. Course was in good shape, but it's tough waiting on every hole. In the afternoon you can expect to tee off at least 30 minutes after your tee time.
Great Course
This has to be one of the top muni courses in the Houston area. Excellent condition.
Close to great, but not quite
This is a fun course to play. I enjoyed playing here for the first time. The holes are challenging, but fair. The tee boxes were not the greatest and they frequently had the blue tees in the same place as the white tees on several holes, what's the point of that? The fairways are in good condition, but the greens definitely need some work! Lots of brown patches and diseased areas on them. Overall, this was a decent course for the money, and it is close to being a really top-notch place to play, just not quite yet.
A Friday getaway
Appropriate tees for all skill levels. I played senior tees. Fairways and greens in excellent condition. Sand traps had good sand. Greens were large and receptive. Good cart beverage service. Beef brisket and sausage plate in dining area after round was the best I have had at a golf course.. .
Friday crowded
Course was very slow. Too crowded and Marshall as ignoring players that were not familiar with normal play. I brought my neighbor for first time and he said he not return. Also, $4 a beer...really.
Nice price and play
Very nice course. For the price cannot beat it. $15 a person can't beat that anywhere especially at this course. Challenging but fun.
Petty course
Greens are a little rough. Women's tee box needs help. Fairways are awesome
Summer Twilight
Started at 3:30 played all 18 with daylight to spare. Greens were lush and dry considereing rain in Recent days.
On the right path
The course was in pretty good shape, even though it has had plenty of rain from the last few weeks. Lots of freshly mowed grass on fairways, but not too bad. Most greens were in good shape, few not so good. You can see the effort put out to make this course one the "must play" courses in Houston.
Fun course to play
some of the greens had some dry spots overall the course was in good shape
Battleground GC
Great value for a good course! Fairways were in great shape but the greens were not. I am not sure when they aerated and sanded the greens but it seemed like it was done recently since they were so bumpy. The price for cart and green fee booked using Golf Now was well worth it even with the green issues.
Terrible Greens
The course was alright, but very short. I didn't hit a driver all day, and I was on a par 5 in two shots going 3 wood, sand wedge. There's a good amount of water on the course, but it's fairly easy to avoid if you can hit the ball relatively straight. The greens were AWFUL - patches of dirt and bumps make it really hard to make putts. Apparently it used to be in better shape, so I may have caught it at a bad time. Probably not worth the money, but it's fairly close to downtown Houston and not as crowded as the courses in town, so that's a plus. The only reason I'd recommend it is to cross it off the list.
worth the $$$
Course was jn great condition. Greens were still sandy but were good. If you like water, this is the place for you. 14 out of 18 holes have water.
Awful greens
The tee boxes and fairways and bunkers were ok but the greens were horrible. It was like putting on the moon, craters and sand everywhere. I will not be playing there again for at least 2 months to give the greens some time to come back
Very nice course to play
We've played here before, several times. Overall, I have no complaints. We were a bit backed up, but that's expected for a nice golf weather day.
Awesome course. Little to complain
The overall course is great, with only a few complaints. A couple of the greens were dried out and some basically just sand. Throughout the duration of play the sprinklers would come on. On the tee box for Hole 2, the sprinklers came on and completely soaked our clubs and buggies.
Battleground Golf Course
Course conditions were bad. Greens were terrible, fairways not much better. Cost was high for condition of course
Convenient location and well kept course
Nice course for the money and convenient location for all golfers who joined. Restaurant was being renovated so no grub was being served.
