The Battleground at Deer Park
About
Created as a tribute to Texas' battle for independence, The Battleground is more of a links-style course that is burdened by the wind and tricky because of the abundance of water (14 holes). Despite its links flavor, the fairways are narrow, and they're lined by thick rough.
Providing sort of a golf experience/history lesson combined into one day, each hole is named after some significant person, item, or event in the Texas fight for independence. For example, one hole is named Sam Houston, while another is named after a pair of twin cannons: Twin Sisters.
No. 8 is one of the signature holes, a 175-yard poke over the water to a green that is shared with the par 5 No. 1. A waterfall accents the edge of the lake, providing a unique aesthetic.
On the back, the finishing hole is fun because you can play aggressively off the tee, free of major hazards in the landing area that is framed by mounding. The approach must carry water, and you'll need to take an extra club because the green is elevated.
Getting there : From Houston, take Hwy. 610 and loop around the city to Hwy. 225 east. Take the first Deer Park exit and turn right onto Georgia St. Next, drive 1 mile to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Good Times
Weather was perfect, course in great shape, except where some idiot scalp the greens with his club. It was the first good weather day in weeks and the pace of play was very slow.
Has Come A Long Way
Got a GN hot deal and played here by myself. Greens were in fantastic shape and rolling true. Fairways were a little spotty but for winter they were in good condition (same w tee boxes). Staff was friendly. Will be back although I'm not sure I'd pay over $45 to play here.
Awesome shape
was very pleased with the course condition. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape. The staff members were very friendly. Top notch and Can't wait to play it again.
Good golf course
Very good greens and fairways tee boxes so so bunkers good shape.
Battleground Experience
A lot of water in play on many holes. Greens in good shape. Fairways a little thin but probably expected this time of year. Some tee boxes needed some work. Par 3 boxes very worn and needed some resodding. Staff very friendly. First round of draft beer in grill cost whatever you scored (i.e. $0.94 if you shot a 94).Grill recently renovated. Very nice.Staff very friendly.
Great value for the area
Battleground is a hidden gem. Used to think Memorial Park GC was the best value in Houston, but Battleground made a strong case for itself this weekend.
Great Value
I've played the course many times. Worth the drive from the Heights. Similar in difficulty to Memorial Park.
vast improvement
The course has returned to its good condition after a summer of very poor condition. The grass on the fairways is back and the greens for the most part are good.
Enjoyed course mostly
First, for GolfNow (GN) folks, I've reserved at three different places recently with GN, two in Houston, TX and one in Lewisville, TX and the people in the pro shop really don't understand what GN is, why I have a reservation through them, what getting balls, cart and meals included means. They have barely heard of GN and that people can reserve tee times through it with their courses. When I mention GN, there are blank stares, even when I have the confirmation sheet printed and with me. There needs to be more education.
For Battleground the course, I was a solo, expecting that I would be paired up with 2 or three others for a 904 tee time, but there was no starter or marshal to ask and no one who also had that tee time, so I teed off alone and played alone for the first nine. After first nine, I went to ten and there were two slow foursomes directly ahead of me so I opted to play the front nine again. Marshal was helpful about that. I went to buffet about 1 pm and it was almost cleanly picked through and was not getting refilled, as far as i could tell. I won't be doing the buffet again. The course was not bad, greens a little sandy, but I enjoyed the golf part of it even though I didn't get to play the back nine. Also, the website says there are 3 practice holes, but doesn't say that there is a charge of $9.75 to play them. I thought they were free like the putting green and pitching green.
First time here
This was your average golf course. Nothing special but nice layout. The Starter was not very professional and seemed to lack the common sense one would expect from a starter. Nevertheless, the course was nice and I will be back.
beautiful
The course was in great shape I enjoyed my time there
Looked better than before
The course looks a lot better than it did 5 months ago. This course has large elevated greens with plenty of turns. There is a ton of water running parallel to most holes. Be straight and try to miss the greens on the bailout side and you will score well. If you don't then your score will rise quickly.
Good golf course
Enjoyed playing golf there and course was in very good shape.
good time
had a good time playing the course. fairways and greens are in good shape----water and trees make it challenging as it should be.
Well worth playing......
Course in great shape...may have too much grass. Only complaint, you have guys in carts not playing driving all over the place. over a shot and here comes guy in cart out of trees across fairway. Couple of times on tee box also. Have some respect. Still worth playing !!
Clean course
Course was good for the price, my only hiccup were that some of the tee boxes were beat up or fuzzy. It was a nice pleasant round and recommend this course to others. GPS would be a good addition as markers were not always available. The bunkers were excellent and the greens rolled great. I really have no major complaints.
Nice course, but...
The course was in good shape. The morning was very warm and humid. The water fountains attched to the restrooms ran hot water. There was only one igloo cooler out on the entire course with ice water in it and that was on the #6 tee box. Did not see a beverage cart at all. Marshall's were more interested in picking up lost golf balls than in keeping the pace of play up. Played the front in 2 hours, the back took almost 3.
Nice Greens
Went on a windy day so couldn't really have the best time... I plan on going back soon though.
A bit hot
Everything was great as usual at battleground. It was just a bit to hot during game play. But that's our falt do playing at the hotest part of the day.
Slow pace of play
It is frustrating to see fivesomes playing on a Saturday morning, usually members gambling. Course was in good shape, but it's tough waiting on every hole. In the afternoon you can expect to tee off at least 30 minutes after your tee time.
