About
Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.
On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.
The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Fantastic!
Wish I had found this gem earlier. Varied and challenging design in very good condition. Greens held shots without a deep gouge.
fairway
Fairway was so dry so I could not agree with ratings in Golfnow web site.
Even tee box was so dry, I was hard to put tee in it.
However, greens were beautifully managed.

Recently semi-private Thorntree is a great course. Challenging and well worth the money
The management of this course know what they are doing. They have kept the greens and surrounding grass in near perfect condition through the hottest summer since 2011. Staff are friendly, the course is really enjoyable and I'll be a regular there from now on.
Liked Course
Best greens I have played in 2 years. Fairways sucked. I asked an employee why the fairways were so brown, "we don't have the money to pay for water". I was shocked! Very upscale houses surround the course. I'd be angry if I was a home owner. Other than the fairways, it was great. Can't say enough about the fantastic greens
The best greens
WOW where do I start... First off the staff was wonderful and plenty helpful. It was my first time playing the course , but it sure won’t be the last. This has been one of the hottest summer that I can remember so the fairways has taken a hit , but my goodness they have THE BEST GREENS in Texas they need to give tutorials to some of these courses around here.. The pace of play was GREAT and the course has plenty of challenges I will definitely be back to this jewel.

The Challenge
Fantastic Course!!! Extremely challenging but fair... I love this course for the money!!! Great Value!!! The GREENS are in fantastic condition!!! The overall course conditions where great due to the Texas heat... be honest with yourself what course does not have a few brown patches this time of year!!!
Tough from the Back
This course has gone downhill in the last few years, but they are now allowing some public play on T-Th. Good enough a few years ago to be host the Monday qualifier for the Byron Nelson and it really has the best set of par 4s you'll play. Everything from shortish (320) to 475 uphill!!!! Decent greens and fast fairways. A few very deceiving tee shots can run your score up!

Not sure what course Tanner played yesterday, but when I was there the fairways are the worst around, but the greens are the best! I was told by employee they didn't have the money to pay the water bill. Too bad! Fun course!
