great course
Course is fair, greens ok, pins placement challenges
Thank you so much for your review, Jimmy! We are happy to see you enjoyed our course. We appreciate your feedback, and hope to see you back again in the future.
Better Than I Remember...
Out of the two courses, I dislike the SW the most, however I fared pretty well today for some reason. The South nine is really very nice and a great balance of risk/reward holes. The fairways were in very good shape, but the rough was inconsistent and had some run-off wear showing. Greens showed a lot of ball marks, which we fixed as we could. The West nine is ridiculous, especially from the forward tees. There are three holes where you have to tee off with a pitching wedge and then hit a 3W as hard as you can to clear the hazard. It simply doesn't make sense--just move the tee boxes back so it doesn't take the Driver or Woods out of your hands. The best way to play those holes is take a junk ball and dump it in the penalty area, move to the drop area (in front of the junk) and go from there. I parred one of the three and bogeyed the other two! Not the correct way to play these holes, but certainly legal. The SW was in good shape, and I didn't see thin grass in the fairway or brown/dirt spots. Greens were rolling pretty true and of average speed, and the bunkers had great sand.

Much Improved
Haven't played Compass Point (either course) in years because of the poor conditions and the poor design from the forward tees. The North is a nice, traditional design; however, the East is a tad "choppier," especially from the forward tees. Out of the two courses, the NE is a better, more consistent flow for play, but there are still a couple of issues, i.e., they have been repairing the left bunkers on #5 North forever. Get them fixed! And, much like the West, the East has one hole where you just need to dump your tee shot into the junk and move to the drop area. There's a par 5 on the East where the fairway is really choppy and hardly has any grass, but it's starting to come in. The course is in better shape than previous years, but still needs some time to fill in. Overall, not bad to play right now, but hopefully will get better for the next year.
Thank you for another review. Again, we greatly appreciate your feedback and take it into account. We hope you join us again soon.
Ball mark repair lessons required
This is a decent course but seems that a lot of players on this course do not know how to repair their ball marks on the greens. I’ve always had a rule repair yours repair another. Sometimes I’ve repaired more than 4 on a green so my rule is out the window. Anyway overall the course is decent either SW or NE. I’d still play it even having to repair over 36 ball marks in a round :)
Great Track
$40 for 18 with a cart and would’ve thought I was playing a bayside version of Kiawah’s Cassique. Fairways have started to come in now that they’ve switched out sod and greens rolled true on the north/south sides. Return of their former groundskeeper has the place looking fantastic. Will definitely be out to play again.
Course has made a comeback
Haven't played here in at least 5 years due to declining conditions. Recently read an online review that was positive so figured I'd check it out. Course conditions are much improved from where they consistently were 5-10 years ago. Greens were great maybe a touch slower than I prefer. Fairways are in great shape, tee boxes are good, and rough was healthy. Although I didn't use it, they have a grass driving range that looked in good shape. Really don't have anything bad to say and for the right price we will definitely be back.
Cart Issues
I always have issues with the carts. Got a flat tire today and had to let two groups pass before they brought another cart. Some dead spots in the fairways but overall decent shape.
Slow Play
Perfect conditions for golf. As expected, pace was slow. Understandable. Unfortunately, an event was planned and golfers were being sent to a single nine hole course, South. For the first 4 holes (all we played), there was two, three, and sometimes four groups playing a single hole. Tee times should be limited to prevent this from happening. Staff was very friendly and offered a rain check for half the rate we paid. Happy for great customer service.
Compass was on Pointe
Had a very enjoyable round at Compass Pointe today. The staff was quite friendly and helpful. We played the South-West combo, as there are four 9-hole tracks. The fairways and tee boxes were is great shape, but the greens could use a bit of work. I believe this is, in large part, likely the result of golfers repeatedly not repairing ball marks. There were too many to count on most greens. A little prodding bu the clubhouse and starter might have some impact, but lazy golfers are difficult to change. All in all, if you are looking for a quality public golf course for a modest price, I highly recommend Compass Pointe.
Would give a higher rating if the course was in better shape. A lot of patchy areas on the tee boxes and fairways. Greens had a lot of repairs that had not been fixed. Greens overall were firm and ran pretty true. I personally think the course plays pretty challenging from the blues. ( 6500 yards or so) Have to hit some quality golf shots . If the course was in better shape , the price I payed would be a steal but prices fairly accurately because of the condition. Staff was friendly and they had Marshall’s out frequently checking the pace of play
Needs Marshals
Took us 3 hours to play the back 9 on Northeast. Not because it was crowded on a Saturday, but because of one rude threesome who would not tee off on par 4 until the group ahead of them were on the green and then took forever once they made it to the green. Called the clubhouse on the 12th hole to see if a marshal could get them moving. Was assured they would try to help, but we never saw a marshal. Apparently the course doesn't care. Ridiculous.
