It's a Toss Up
Compass Pointe has a lot of potential, but I don't feel like it's being properly channeled. When you check in with the starters, lately it's been a bunch of kids that don't seem to know what they are doing. There have been consistent backups and you never know which of the four courses you'll get to play any given day. As for the course, it's pretty challenging and enjoyable to play. Greens sometimes are like concrete when playing in the afternoon so be wary. Prices are pretty competitive for what you get and the full grass practice range is great.
Enjoyed the round except...
The greens are in horrible conditions. I don't blame the course or staff. It looks like people don't repair ball marks at all, which is absolutely absurd. This could be a great course if that were somehow fixed.
Thanks. Again, I don't blame you guys. It's more of the people playing the course. Overall, I really enjoyed the course.
Good Morning DrTom2007,
Thank you for playing and taking the time to share your feedback. We are implementing a new policy soon where the starter is going to ask if the group has divot tools. If they do not we will give them one. Thank you again for taking the time to share.
Regards,
Michael and the Compass Pointe Team
Awesome course. Looking forward to returning soon!!!
I normally don't review courses however I feel compelled to comment on this one. So chronologically here's my feedback in the short and skinny:
My profile and factors: 13 handicap, high 80 degrees, blue tees and first time playing the course.
Checking in for tee time - The young man who checked me in was efficient and courteous. He welcomed me as soon as I stepped in. His name slip my mind as I was a preoccupied with trying to move on to change and get warmed up.
Starter (Gary) - His enthusiasm and informative approached armed my playing partner and me with everything needed to successfully navigate the course.
The course - Nice and challenging layout yet not too intimidating. It teases you really well from thr tee which I fell for and got me out of my course management strategy. Good gamesmanship. My playing partner on other hand appeared fustrated which only comes down to your confidence in your skills. After each hole this course made me look back from green to tee and make mental snapshots for next time. It kicked my butt on a lot of holes due to first time playing there enticing me to try to cut corners from tee to later discover not much cut back along woodline. I paid for it stoke wise costing an additional 10 strokes all of which I own. If I had to speak on any area for room in improvement would be the greens however I don't put that on the course. It appears as though a lot of players believe checked marks on green magically repair themselves. Can fustrate your play when you miss birdie and eagle attempts. Nevertheless I finished with a mid 80 round. Loved the course and will return soon. Thanks CPGC for a great experience.

Great day
If you aren't having fun while golfing you aren't doing it right. Great course and close to home. Not too expensive and wasn't very crowded at all. Look forward to going a lot more this year. Staff was very nice and helpful.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for your feedback and we hope to see you back on the links soon!

Compass Point N-E Courses
Course was in good condition but pace of play was a little slow. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this course and we will be back.
Good golf course
Played this course on an unseasonably warm day but windy in early March. Course staff were friendly and helpful. Pace was a bit slow, there was a threesome two groups up and a twosome of ladies in front of us (we were 2) but we still finished in 4.05.
The course was in decent shape for this time of year and the greens were pretty smooth and true. The fairway grass was dormant and very easy to play from. You have to watch yourself with the tee shot as some of the fairways are canted and the ball will run off, but if you pay attention off the tee you're fine. The rough was very patchy, I got the impression that they'd had issues with it. Overall the North/East is a good layout and a decent challenge if you choose the correct tees for your h'cap level. The Par 5s are long, and on one of them (the 13th) you can't use driver even from the back tees or you'll run out of real estate...don't like that, but it's a minor peeve. 8 and 17 are very good Par 5s . Overall a good solid golf course, and better than average for a public track
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for playing Compass Pointe and sharing your feedback. Excited to let everyone know that a lot of seed was planted in the rough areas this fall and there will be a much better playing surface in the spring. Hope to see you back on the links soon!

great winter golf
Of the 8 courses I have played this winter because of the seasonally warm days we have had, Compass Pointe ranks up there for its winter conditions.
Can't wait to play it again in the spring & summer.
This course is open and somewhat forgiving if you miss a few shots. I realize that the fairways are harder and dryer in the winter and that I got a lot more roll off the Tee Box, so I am sure I will not fair as well on my scorecard the next time I play , plus it was pretty easy to find missed shots in the wood-line and play them to the green.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for playing Compass Pointe and we hope to see you back on the links soon! It has been a pretty good golfing winter up to today!

Brisk February
It was February so all-in-all, not bad, especially considering the big rain the previous day.
Dear Golfer,

Walkers on Saturday Morning
Great course layout. Greens were not in best shape, but good for February. I was most surprised that walkers are allowed to walk on Saturday morning.

Interesting range of holes
Compass Pointe is a decent 36-hole facility in Pasadena, MD which is fairly convenient for anyone living in the DC/Baltimore area (or visiting).
Conditions are okay, but some of that is down to playing in early February (some of the tee boxes and fairways have Bermuda grass). There's a fairly wide variety of holes on both courses but one constant- all of the par 5's are challenging (no easy layup holes here; any birdies are earned).
One other constant- most of the people who work there are friendly and helpful.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for playing Compass Pointe. We are excited to be finishing the Bermuda project in 2017 along with the renovation of the remaining bunkers. Hope to see you back on the links soon!

Challenging
This course has a lot of unique holes with a lot more hazards to deal with than other courses in this area. It was definitely challenging and will punish you if your driver is on hitting straight. I lost a lot of balls OB due to poor shots but the rough was very thin so balls would bounce and roll into the nasty stuff with no chance of finding them. All in all, I enjoyed it and like the challenge. The greens were in great shape. They can be hard to read and pin placements were tough but they rolled very nicely.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. The crew has done a lot of seeding in the rough areas this fall and we are looking forward to a fuller more playable surface in the spring. Regards, Michael
Doggone Slow!
Played S/W for first time since renovation. Looks good, promising. Too many people, 4 1/2 hours to finish 12 holes, had to leave due to an appointment.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for playing Compass Pointe and sharing your feedback. I am sorry to hear it took that long to play 12 holes the other day. If you have a chance I can be reached at msenneca@billycaspergolf.com and would love to speak to you about your experience some more. Regards, Michael
Still needs a lot of work....
This place still needs a ton of work. I give this course a chance once every two to three years and every time I come back, it disappoints. We played the North East courses and started on the East. The fairways and tees were in good shape and the greens were about where they should be given they were probably punched a few weeks ago. They do have a major problem with people not fixing their ball marks. However, the East course lacks any semblance of rough. If you miss the fairway with any kind of speed, expect the ball to continue on into the woods or a hazard. Since day one, the rough has been non-existent. The North nine is in much better shape, which has always been the case. I have heard from various folks in the know that the county doesn't show this course the financial love it needs to improve. And judging by how well kept the North has always been, it seems this place has the potential to be a solid course.
We played the East right at 2 hours, but made the turn to the North and hit a brick wall. The pro shop decided to send a few groups off the North right in the middle of the groups making the turn. The back side took about 2:45 to play and when a ranger on the last hole asked us how the pace was, I explained that it was very slow because a few groups were sent out in front of us. His response is indicative of everything that is wrong with this course; "well they must have decided to flip the nines." Until the rating improves for this course, I won't be back.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback from your recent visit. Currently we are working on a multiyear project to transition the tees and fairways to Bermuda grass. So far we have done the East and the South and they look awesome. Also, include in the plans is some additional bunker and rough work. Now that we are moving into the fall I am sure you will see a much improved facility. Regards, Michael

Good mooring Golfer! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Sorry if there was some confusion on the tee. One golf course is being re-grassed this summer and will be back open in a few weeks. This should get rid of the issue you ran into. Regards, CP Team
