Morris Williams Golf Course
About
The “Mo Willie,” Austin’s third municipal course, has some character: it served as the home of Harvey Penick’s legendary golf teams, two of which won NCAA Championships back when Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw graced the fairways. And it’s named after Morris Williams, Jr., one of the best golfers to ever come out of the city. Now Austin’s airport has moved south, and this difficult Leon Howard design is a bit more peaceful.
Howard’s layout requires all types of shots, and is known for its small, slightly elevated greens. The best hole on the front is the dogleg left, 540-yard No. 2, even though some would argue that the 187-yard No. 3 is one of Austin’s all-time best. It drops 50 feet from tee to green over a pond. The back side is highlighted by water holes 11-14, with both 11 and 12 requiring approaches over the wet stuff.
Getting there : From the Austin Airport, turn left on Manor Road and the clubhouse is 100 yards down the street. The entrance is on the right.

Great Day For Golf
I really like playing this course. Its in great condition.
Pro shop ruined it
I’ve played here before and love it. Never had issues. However this weekend the pro shop employee ruined the experience for multiple groups. Normally staff is super layed back and lets people have fun and enjoy. This time the lady that was checking people in made the experience a bummer for multiple folks. Forcing buddies to put an extra bag on the cart that we’re sharing clubs, making a random woman ride with a stranger in a 4 some despite having 30+ carts outside for a 4pm tee time, rude to people checking in and out. Just all around poor customer service from a course I normally love to play.
Great Value
Course in great shape, great value for your money and tee times not overcrowded. Food is great with great selection of beer
Golf in Austin #2
Very good layout and challenging. Manicured fairways and the greens ran well. Need water stations on the course. Beverage cart came around occassionally. .
Mo Willie is in great shape
Having played here for 50+ years, MW is as good as it has ever been. And it only costs $18 to walk! There is grass from fence line to fence line, with no hard pan in play. Greens are a little slow, but it's in as good a shape as i've ever seen it. 10 minutes from downtown; the view of the skyline from #5 is awesome.
19th hole has good food, too.
The rework really works at Morris Williams
This is the first time I have played Morris Williams since the course has been redeveloped. Chose the course for the first ever round of golf for a new player. Played mid-day on a hot day because we didn’t expect to see too many people. From the much improved practice putting green expansion to the green and bunker improvements from my last visit the course was even friendlier than before. We were there because it is fairly wide open and errant shots don’t mean a lost ball or a long search. Even with a new golfer we only had to let one group through, never felt any additional pace pressure and finished in under 4 hours. Staff was very friendly. Margarita for the back nine was welcome and new golfer had such a good time he was trying to schedule our next round in the car on the way home.
Mo Willy is awesome right now!
Greens are great, you can tell where they have patched in the new grass and is growing nicely on a few of the greens. New putting and chipping area is fantastic! Fairways and tee boxes good as well. Only complaint is there isn’t any water on the course and there wasn’t sand on the cart to repair divots. But man, Mo Willy is awesome right now!
Morris Williams Golf Course
I had a great day on the golf course today! Mo Willie is in great shape. Even in the heat of summer, it was such a pleasant experience to be out there today!
Bring your own water
Nearly 100 degrees and there's no drinking water on the course. You won't get COVID, but you might get heatstroke. Asinine.
That idiocy aside, it's a fine course.
