About
Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974 with a 6,931 yard Joe Finger design that incorporates Williamson Creek. This track is flat as well, and is noted for its generous fairways and large, elevated greens. The first and last holes are perhaps the most memorable. No. 1 serves up a blind approach shot over a hill into a skinny green, and the 400-yard doglegged 18th plays into the wind with water on the left side.

First time great time
We had a wonderful experience playing here, unfortunately we ran out of sun hlight but we had a beautiful experience in hole 7,8,9 with that sunset
Enjoyable Muni course in Austin
While my round was not good, I certainly enjoyed playing this course. It’s well maintained and both the fairways and greens are in good shape. I thought playing on a Tuesday would ensure a decent pace of play…I was wrong. While the front nine was a bearable 1-1/2 hrs, the back nine dragged on, taking over 3 hours. If you don’t get an early tee time, just be prepared for a leisurely round.
A Solid Austin Muni!
I always enjoy playing at the Kizer/Clay courses. I recently played Jimmy Clay, and the course was in great condition considering it is mid-winter. The pace of play on a weekday was fine, as we finished in 4 hours. Jimmy Clay is easily walkable with minimal hills.
Conditions are good 8/30/25
Course is in great shape. Tee boxes have some crab grass but nothing that hinders your shot if you tee up. Fairways all have good grass and the greens are over seeded and furry. This makes putting a little slow but cutting the greens lower risks bare spots. It’s a good call and it makes for great stopping power on your approach shots. Also takes the break out of a lot of putts and makes you read the grain direction. This combination makes for great scoring opportunities. Also running a bev cart which was great. If you play in Austin you know the pace hasn’t changed. 4.5 hrs standard.

Course, greens and fairways way above average for a Muni course. Would definitely return.
