stress relief
Good learner course. Fairways open and well groomed. Now that the rough is cut lower missed fairway shots are easier to recover and play may be completed quicker. The course has only two ball washers. I recommend adding a few more, maybe one every 3 or 4 holes. Below average range but I understand improvement are forthcoming. The staff is friendly, but not well informed on senior/military discounts. Over the past couple of months, tremendous improvements have been made. Keep up the good work.
Nathan
The new staff has already made the place an extremely better atmosphere. The new staff was friendly, helpful, and also gave us things to look forward at the course in the near future. The course was not in the best of shapes, but you can see the improvements from last time I had played there. The GM, Eric Howard, went out of his way to check on us during the round to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and to see if we had any ideas on things they could do to improve the place. Overall, the staff made the experience extremely enjoyable and I will be back, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for this course!
Headed in the right direction
Course has come a long way in the recent months, went from horrible to nice. Still got some work to do on the greens but I see that coming here in the near future. Tn man is doin a good job.
Too deep!
Course is in much better shape and seems to be improving daily. First cut is a little deep. Your average golfer only hits 30% of the fairways. Losing to many balls this way. Same thing happened at Galloway in Memphis when course was renovated. First cut was to deep. 1 1/2". People were not having fun because they could not find their golf ball. People stopped showing up. Slow business. Once they cut the rough to a half inch, they got the players back.
Course of my choice
I have been playing this course for many years now. The course layout is excellent. The course joins a lake with several of the holes. My love for this course is it is extremely open, beautiful, airy, and picturesque, a great course to get exercise, sun, air; I just can't say enough good things about this course. Did I mention the bird and animal life?
This course and clubhouse has undergone upgrades recently that improve the setting/s and makes it a great place to play. The clubhouse has been upgraded and is very accommodating to anyone who wants to play golf or is just starting out.
The upgrade and care of the course itself now makes it more like a professional golf course. All the grass, green, fairway, tees, all of it makes it feel and look more like a professional golf course. All the grounds are well taken care of and in great shape.
Even if I might sound like a great golf player, I'm not. But I love to play the game of golf. Strictly moderate.
I've played at other courses in the Memphis, TN area but Orgill Golf Course gives me many good memories and talk about peaceful, this course is very peaceful. In my personal opinion of this course is I don't want to play anywhere else. This is a great golf course.
The staff are friendly and very accommodating, and will help anyway necessary and sometimes go out of their way to serve any of their customers.
I would also like to mention a couple of staff that are outstanding in my experience working with them.
Ronnie Weeks who takes care of the carts; making sure they are clean, batteries charged; goes out of his way to help every golfer after that golfer completes their round of either 9 holes or 18 holes. I can't say enough positive things about Ronnie Weeks. I hope Orgill staff never get rid of Ronnie. Walt is the other staff that goes out of his way to help golfers anyway possible. Walt is a great asset to Orgill Golf Course.
I highly recommend Orgill Golf Course to anyone from beginner to expert. It is a most fun course and I enjoy playing here every chance I get.
worth about $ 16
I play a lot of golf around the Memphis area to include Tipton Co.. I have heard that Orgill was trying to make a comeback so I went to see how it is. The club house is still the same. Very tiny with outdated decor. The pro shop is a counter with little in the way of merchandise available.
The driving range is a hilly slope facing into the sun so you cant see where the ball lands. The range balls dont make it to shag ball level.
The fairways are a little better than last year, but the greens have some kind of disease on them and are more bare areas on the greens than grass. The greens and the tee boxes are so hard you can hardly get a tee into the ground without a hammer and a ball will not hold a green if it does not have back spin on it.
I found that it is just not worth the discounted price to play in or on unplayable greens. I dont know if it is lack of state funds or poor greens keeping that this course is not kept in better shape but I did not enjoy the round.
If you come to the north end of Shelby County, you might as well drive another 10 minutes to Forest Hill in Drumonds and play a beautiful well manicured course for about $ 6 dollars more.
Good Shape
Greens are in good shape. Much better than previous years. Fairways are in very good shape. Clubhouse has recently gone through extensive renovation. It really looks nice.
Great time
I had a great time my brother and I I shot a 79 and really really enjoy the course I will revisit the course again and again
A diamond in the rough
I last played this course many times but the last time was over a year ago and only because it was a work outing. Decided to go there again with a friend and I couldn't believe how nice the course looks. I spoke with the management and they told me they were just starting to make improvements. If they've done this well in just 3 weeks, I can't wait to see what it looks like in 3 months. Go try it out.
Orgille is a must play golf course
I have played Orgille Golf course for two years and in the past few months the course has been upgraded tremedously. The fairway and greens are now in very good shape, lost balls are easier to find. I really enjoy playing at Orgille and recommend for those that play golf, Orgille is the golf course for you.
Wow - What a Surprise
Orgil Golf Course has made a dramatic turnaround. I played Orgil as a high school golfer in the 80's and occasionally played thru the years, but when I went yesterday with my daughter I received a pleasant surprise. The course is in the best shape I have ever seen it. The club house is being remodeled and the new management is on top of real golf solutions and visions. I have always loved the quiet setting and the rolling hills (don't see that very much in Memphis) and now it is coupled with good and getting better playing conditions. Can't wait to see the changes over the next year. If you haven't played Orgil lately, I suggest you go check it out. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Nice Sunday golf.
First the bad. The greens are very inconsistent from one to the next. They had a fungus from the winter leaving bad spots and need to be cut. Cost me at least 5-6 strokes. Other than that; the course is pretty good. Fairways cut. Tee boxes nice. Fun day. Especially on hot deals.
Improved course
Played using the Internet special.
Course has improved over last year - greens & fairways are very playable, the rough is just that - rough, golf carts seem fairly new, some T boxes are difficult to insert the golf t. Staff friendly but somewhat reserved, sodas, chips, beer & snacks ok, burgers & dogs not always available.
Good course, shot an 87
State park
No fuss golf. If you need a place to keep your golf addiction fed, this will do. Plan to play golf and leave. Below Ave range and chip/putt areas.
Good country feel and not a bad place if you feel the need to walk.
Fun Course
Had some different holes. Not all straight down the middle. Doglegs and Challenging Tee Shots. We had alot of fun.
great play for the price
Nice beginner course. Open fairways, nice size greens.
Good practice course
12:00 for 10 bucks! with cart!
Very beautiful scenery but the course and greens are rough. Great for relaxation and good practice course. Have your golfnow confirmation ready to show the cashier, he doesn't have a computer! The course makes no money off golfnow bookings, just free advertising! So the cashier does treat me as a 2nd rate player but who cares? Go pay $50 if you want a great course and good service. The worst thing I experienced was my snap hook! lol!
Guy running the course is a Jerk!!!!
When I got to the course, the guy that was running it was very rude and gets upset if anyone buy through golf now. He would not let us tee off because he "doesnt agree with Golf now" Made us wait 45 mins. The course is ok though. Very open. Just be ready to deal with the guy running the place
they didn't know.. again
Earlier this year I booked with Golf Now. Cashier was snotty because I used the app and said he could beat the price, which he did by 5 bucks per player. This time he said he never gets confirmation from you guys that a tee time was made. I think you should call that course and figure this out. I don't enjoy dealing with a jerk every time to play there. As for the course.. Great condition except for the bumpy fast greens.
State run fun
Fun course. Play the tips for a challenging day. Play up tees for a fun day.
Greens needed a little work but still a good value for the money.
