Golfer Reviews
Fun course
This course is a hidden gem in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area. Just need to fix the hot spots on some of the greens and it will be as nice a course as any I’ve played down there.
Mixed Bag
I called the course before booking on GolfNow to make sure they had rental clubs and they did. On the morning of my tee time, it started raining on my way to the course and really came down as I was pulling into the parking lot. I sat in my car for a bit as I was early and waited for the rain to stop. It slowed down enough and other cars were starting to pull into the parking lot so I went into the clubhouse to pay and get my rental clubs. Paying was easy and the clubhouse wasn’t overly busy so the guy brings my rental clubs and I have to walk them to the cart. I put them on the cart and I had to wait on the other 2 guys in my group as they were late. I believe a couple other groups went off while I was waiting so I briefly looked over the set of clubs and pulled out the Driver and putter for closer inspection. I putted on the practice green while waiting on my pairing to show. The starter told me they had arrived and gave me their cart number so I went and found them so we wouldn’t get pushed even further down the tee sheet. The course was wet from the rain but that’s just the way it is. We teed off and headed to our second shots. I reached in the bag looking for an 8 iron and didn’t see it. Not wanting to hold the group up, I pulled the 7 iron and just tried to take something off of it. Tee off on #2 and when I got into the fairway, I noticed I was missing another club. That’s when I inspected the entire set and noticed I had 3 5W, 2 4H and was missing many other clubs. The set looked worse than the clubs I have sitting around in my garage. They really looked old and were mismatched. I called the clubhouse and asked them to bring me the clubs I was missing and they met me on the next hole. That just put a bad taste in my mouth for the entire round. I had played another course earlier in the week and the rental clubs they gave me were top notch. These not so much. The course was in good shape. Every hold seemed like there was a dogleg but that challenge made it fun. The golf was really nice and I enjoyed the course but the price to pay for rental clubs and the set they gave me just didn’t match up. If you play this course and rent clubs, recommend you check out the entire set before you take off and maybe even see if they’ll allow you to look over some of the sets and chose your own. I would give this course a higher rating if the clubs I was given were correct.
Locals Only
The course was fine, the greens may have been hairy due to greens being punched recently , it was priced well for anyone to play, but we felt disconnected. The place seems like one silo to another from the pro shop, beverage service, and course management. Seems to be meant for the community it resides in and outsiders are a nuisance. I’ve been here before and it does not drain well for a place near sandy soil. I’ll come back but I hope the carts are upgraded to provide GPS or better signage to avoid several blind shot hazards.
Hot & Punched
First off I’m not blaming them. It was HOT! Heat index over 100°, but it’s south Alabama in August. That’s usual. The greens were freshly punched and it affected play a lot! Golf courses have to maintain the greens so they are good the rest of the time. Staff was great. Value was good. Everything else was fine. I am gonna nick them a little on the fact that one 9 hole course was shut down and we had to play the other which is just not very challenging. In a month it’ll be in good normal shape.
Profit over experience
The course now charges $86 including cart. The dead pan areas on the greens and the slow speed of the greens warrant ~$50. The biggest issue is the course has removed ALL water coolers. Patrons must buy all drinks from the clubhouse or the beverage cart. Asking for ice from the beverage cart results in a reminder you can rent a cooler that will be filled with ice. Honestly, I don't see how the course is allowed to jeopardize player safety during Summer months to earn some extra cash. Probably one heat exhaustion or heat stroke episode away from a costly lawsuit. To top it all off, after playing the full Fri-Sat-Sun with only one beverage cart, this course has prioritized profit over player safety. Lastly, $6 for each 12oz beer from the beverage cart with a mandatory 20% tip is why this course is on my do not return list.
Great course, excellent value!!
The course was in great shape. We finished in just under 4 hours. Staff was very nice. I just wish there were more water stations on the course. I recommend playing Glenlakes GC.
Great course for being on vacation
Really enjoyed the course. The front line was exceptional course layout next time. I’m on vacation. I will play Glen Lakes.
Golf course
The golf course is in excellent condition despite the very warm weather conditions. It is on the best shape that I have seen in recent years.
Awesome course
Great course to play. Greens were in great shape. Very friendly staff. Will definitely play there again.
Great layout
Very fair. Greens in good shape. Fairways and rough pretty lush. A few tee boxes could use some help. Overall great day. Make sure you get the yardage book when checking in. Played Dunes / Vista
Played a Round in Tropical Storm Bertha
Great course, weather was tough because of the storm. Nevertheless, very good layout and fun course to play.
Fun links style course
First time I have played this course in about 25 yrs. Fun layout. Some greens need attention but that’s a common battle in the region. We got the Hot Deal which made it worth while. I gave the price 3 stars based on the regular price which I would have been disappointed in. The amenities are what they are (average) but for $85 on a week day I would have expected the greens to be in better shape. The carts do not have gps.
Fun layout
Links style, with lots of mounds & difficult approach shots due to bunkering and several elevated greens. Wind also a major factor on this day, adding to the fun. Greens were ok, a little rough on 3 or 4 holes. Would be 5 stars once greens are back in top shape.
Look forward to playing again.
