Golfer Reviews
Greens in danger
Was surprised to see that many greens were in peril. Not sure what has happened since I was here about a month ago. Everything else is in good condition, but the greens are bare in many spots and very shaggy.
Take advantage of Friday special
Greens even better than last week. Friday special is back for June (foursome for $140). That is an incredible value. Bravo to course management for offering this, as I believe it is key to the course's success going forward.
Limestone is headed in the right direction
This course's revival continues. I am impressed with the continued improvements. The greens were brilliant. Fairways were excellent. Still a few weeds in some fairways and the rough, but that is being a bit nit-picky. I would still like to see an investment in the bunkers. Most were ragged and some were borderline unplayable. I hope management will continue to offer deals throughout the summer to encourage more traffic to this out-of-the-way course. Took advantage today of the final Fridays in May special of $140 foursomes. Can't beat this place for $35. I believe $50 is about the right price point when you consider all factors. $90 is too steep when you consider the area competition. All in all, great job to the course's management for the continued improvements.
Best Course Ever Played
WOW! What a gem to find. We stayed at the condo (which I highly recommend) and played two rounds. The course was so beautiful and the surroundings were so relaxing- you can't help but to play well. The course was pristine. They work hard at making sure that the players have a wonderful experience. Travis was awesome and very helpful. Can't wait to return and do it again. It was worth the 5 hour drive to stay and play.
Most Augusta-like public course in B'ham
Not a better public option days after The Masters than Limestone Springs. This course still isn't back to what it once was, but it is slowly but surely getting back into the black financially and it is showing. The greens were almost fully recovered from recent aeration and were rolling good, especially quick from above the hole. The fairways were fine, though there are some weeds that will hopefully be eradicated in due time. The only other constructive criticism I would give is, aesthetically, the edges of the bunkers would look so much better if there were cut. The ragged look now doesn't do a course of this caliber justice. The scenic value of LS is spectacular, particularly the holes running along the Ridge. Keep up the good work.

I have been playing here for many years and I must say I was worried over the past year about the viability of this place with various ownership changes, but I am seeing some positive strides made and I think the health of this club is on solid footing again. Pictures don't really do the course justice. If this course were 20 miles closer to Birmingham, it would be hard to get a tee time. The course lies in a valley between two ridges, that deliver some incredible holes, particularly along the ridge that provides Nos. 7-13. Take note of the rock formations that lie just beyond the fairways on this stretch, which is the star of the layout. Even if you don't play the back tees, have a look at the first hole's back tee box, located right behind where the carts are staged. It's about a 5-6 story drop down to the fairway and is quite a sight. The par 3s are a strength of this course - Nos. 7 and 12 are stellar. The par 5s are reachable for good players - No. 11 is one of my favorite par 5s of all time. There are still steps being taken to bring the course back to what it was when it opened. When Honours/Troon Golf sold it several years ago, the conditioning left a lot to be desired. Warrior has slowly, but surely got the course sparkling again, so give them a pass if there is no beverage cart service. Not sure if they still offer stay-and-play packages, but there is a cabin on the premises that they use to rent out to buddies trips/groups. Finally, use caution when making your way from the clubhouse to the first tee... the cart path is a smaller version of San Francisco's famous Lombard Street.
Great course and layout...BUT
I played on a Monday and to be honest this course tops all I have played for its beauty and scenery. I have played hundreds of courses around the USA. The only problem was that I got stuck behind a foursome from the 1st hole, and they would not let me play through to save their life. I was a single with only my wife riding with me. I got to 13 and had to turn around and go back and start over. I would hope this is isolated, but I have ready other reviews on other sites that compliment my views. Otherwise, very nice staff and the course is OUTSTANDING!! WELL WORTH THE PRICE!!
Alabama Gem!
Had researched the course in advance, but nothing prepared me for what it was like in person. Awesome layout and beautiful views from the tee box and back from the greens. The course has challenging shots and depending on pin placements the greens can give you all you want and then some. No question I will make this stop when back in the area. Awesome Course and Staff!
Lots of fun and elevation
Great layout and views from a course about 45 minutes from Gadsden and Birmingham. Did not rate a 5 because they just punched greens and the summer Bermuda has not taken off. Well worth the drive and price. I played on a weekday so it was not crowded.
Great course
Great course--great value
Terrific Layout
The design and maintenance put it right up there with the stalwarts of the RTJ Trail, at a significantly lower cost. Solid track.
The complaints about pace of play were vindicated, though. Leave yourself plenty of time in case you get stuck behind Grampaw and pals.
Worth the trip
We picked a great day. Nice breeze and open course. We played with no one in front or behind us-only saw a few groups the whole day. The whole course was ours, Very rare for a course of this caliber-especially on a Saturday. Great time!
Excellent experience
Excellent layout - a tee box for each level of player - greens in good condition and perfect speed. Will play it again!
Solid
Solid course which was enjoyable. Greens were running pretty slow but the course was a bit wet so they may not have cut them in a day or two...
Got it as a "Hotdeal" which was the perfect price. Not worth a full price fare...
Great course
Fairways and greens were outstanding! It was worth the drive
From Huntsville to play it! Great staff, GPS in each cart as well!! If this course was closer I would join membership.
Limestone is not a diamond stone
Course was in good condition but the rough is unnecessarily thick. The layout os interesting and scenic.
Rough Day
Beautiful course, seems to be lacking staff. Little to no maintenance of the traps. CUT THE DANG ROUGH. Unless there's a top level tournament due in the next week or so, there's no reason for the extreme length of the rough. Plays was slowed on almost every hole as we searched for at least one player's ball, sometimes only a few feet from the fairway cut. A beverage cart would help on a hot, busy weekend.
Great course!
I wish this course was 20 miles closer to me, I'd become a member for sure. Loved the layout. Greens were in great condition. I also appreciate a course who's layout returns you to the clubhouse at the turn. It makes it convenient for women to take a bathroom break at the halfway point. Will definitely be back.
Thank you so much for your business and taking the time to leave us such a nice review. We are always thrilled to get five stars!
Come back and see us again soon, we are trying to get better each and every day.
Warm regards,
