Too dusty
The course was very dusty hardly any grass. Great layout friendly staff.
Clouds of dust
Still a work in progress from what I experienced. The course could be beautiful but lacks the proper care on the holes. The carts were nice and a great staff, but even the greens would through dust clouds when hit.
For the price, without a deal, it just wouldn’t be worth it to me again until there’s been some improvement.
Limestone is inching it’s way back to prominence on the Greater Birmingham public golf scene. I can’t say enough about the staff and maintenance crew. If you didn’t see this place a year ago, you wouldn’t understand how much things have improved.
First of all, they have removed a ton of trees. This is going to help the grass grow. Green at No. 6, which has perpetually had bare spots, is arguably better than the fifth green now. Still a few bare spots around the back of #5 green.
The condition of the greens overall are good. The Bentgrass is not shaggy and pockmarked like before. The fairways are showing good thatch. By mid-summer I suspect they will be excellent.
Maintenance crews were evident on the course working on some drainage problem areas.
Bunkers have sand now, and though there are still a few places where the liner is showing through, they are kempt and don’t have weeds growing all over the brows.
Tee boxes have been improved.
Good value for a great layout. Conditioning will continue to get better. Some great things happening at LS.
Limestone
I read some reviews about ownership changes and how horrible the conditions were within the last year. I will say that it’s improved. Carts are nice. The entire course could use some rain or watering. There’s a lot of work going on around the course so I’m another year or so, it’ll be close to where it used to be. Tees are dried out and grass is here/there, fairways are dried out and grass is there, but they were cut super low and the dirt is like moon dust when you get it, the greens are niceish with multiple sandy bare spots. They do place the pin to avoid it. Greens were recently aerated and roll fast. It won’t be much longer and it’ll be back where it was in the early 2000s.

Great layout
This is a fun course. The greens were rolling great great place I will be back soon.
Great course!
Played it trice, it is now my favorite course! Greens and fairways are beautiful. I love the carts with gps that prevents the basic duffer idiot from driving the cart in the wrong places! That probably contributes significantly to the place looking nice. Beware if it is cart path only! You better be in excellent shape! Walking the course would not be as hard as cart path only! Have fun and remember to leave it in better condition then when you got there! Then everyone will enjoy it more!!
Very pleased
My son and I enjoyed our round very much! Nice facilities and course, very enjoyable to play! Will definitely be back.
Good round
A lot of fun. Very friendly staff. Touch screen on cart. Watch out - cart will stop forward progress if you try to drive into restricted areas. This was a first for me. You can reverse gear to back out.
Awesome
Great course, great people. The course was in excellent conditions. The greens were almost perfect. This course is probably one of the best values in the state, if not the best.
Making a comeback
A lot of negative reviews for this course on this website. This course has always been one of the best conditioned in the area. It has been a few years since I have played here. I will say that it’s current condition is not the best I’ve ever seen it to be in, but contrary to the recent reviews it’s in pretty nice shape. Apparently according to recent reviews there has been an ownership change etc. What I can tell you is that the course is in good shape, a few greens and tee boxes have some issues but they are minor. Work on going throughout the course. We saw tree removal and other major work being performed on several holes. My suggestion is to give this course a try,. If you are skeptical wait for a hot deal time and give it a shot. I can’t seem to remember a course I’ve played or a round of golf being worse than being at work. We were happy and we will be back.
Love this course
Beautiful views, challenging and played my best round of golf here. Highly recommend!
Not what she used to be.
This is still a fantastic layout in a beautiful setting, but now it is in such poor shape it is only a value at hot deal rates. I understand it is under new ownership and the greens are in much better shape and that with warmer nights the fairways should improve. Aeration would certainly be a worthwhile investment. If you can’t afford to upkeep the bunkers then grass them over. There are downed pine trees on several holes that have been there for months , the exact same ones. The same drainage system issues are still unfixed in the middle of a number of holes. I hope the new owner decides to fix this gorgeous place or reduce the green fees so everyone might come experience it once or twice. Currently, anybody paying rack rate is not coming back.
Challenging yet fair test
Played a friendly round with members from my golf meetup group. Corse was in great shape and staff were friendly and efficient.
The only critique I have is that the director of golf has not yet entered hole by hole index information in the GHIN system for the course so players may enter hole by hole scoring and advanced stats in GHIN when they play here.
