Golfer Reviews
Great course
The course was in great shape. The greens were pure and great speed to them. Great overall experience
Great Course Wet Day
This is a great course, unfortunately; it was a very wet day. Love the layout and pace of play.
dlecroy,
Thanks for braving the soggy weather and playing at Limestone Springs. Come out and play when the weather is a bit nicer, I am sure you will really enjoy it.
We are always so happy to get a five star review! Thank you so much for that, we can;t wait to see you again. Take care!

The views are awesome
Great layout and the greens are in great conditions, on the other hand the fairways are in need of maintaining there's weeds. I would play again.
A special find
While not being from the area, it's was a hidden gem after I found it. This course has an outstanding layout, and for being Springtime, it's in great shape. I knew it was special, as I stood on the first tee. The view is outstanding. Not overly long, it gives you risk and reward par 5's, and some good par 3's as well. Some holes set up for a draw, and others a cut of the tee. I found some spots on the greens that left some very testy putts. So some local knowledge will help you in the future. This is the 2nd Jerry Pate course I have played. It's totally different from Kiva Dunes, with elevation changes here. But this course is just as challenging, and fun to play. Four sets of tees, so it suits everyone. I will play this course again.
Great Day to Play!
Love this course and especially for the great deal we got on it. The greens had been aerified the day before which is why a gave a good instead of excellent on the course conditions. Can't wait to play it again when all the grass is green and the trees are in bloom.
Worth the drive!
This is one of my favorite golf courses anywhere: beautiful terrain, peaceful surroundings, nice layout, typically great condition-- only downside is the location; really off the beaten path. But completely worth it!
Golf trip with my dad
It was the first time for me playing this course, so I made some errors in judgment. The course was in very good conditions except for some bad spots on a few of the greens. However, the greens putt extremely fast which I was not accustomed to. The course has a good variety of holes. Some short and some long. I booked my round with my dad for $49.00 each plus tax and booking fees. The total came to about $110.00. It was worth that. The rack rate for non-seniors like me is $94.00. The course isn't worth that. Not even close. Also, there wasn't a beverage cart, and the concessions at the clubhouse were way too expensive. The staff wasn't friendly at all and the round took way too long because there were no marshals on the course to keep play moving.
picturesque and challenging
A friend recommended this course so in combination with playing RTJ we went to Limestone.
Well worth the extra drive.
Not as good as in the past
I last played this course before they were bought by Honors Golf. Introduced a new golfer here and they were disappointed.
95+ temps, but there were no towels offered and water coolers on the course were few and some were empty. This on Labor Day weekend. Criminal in the AL heat.
Tee times were 8 min apart and play immediately backed up. A young marshall cruised by one time and asked how it was going. ?!?!? Never saw him again and the pace didn't improve.
Course conditions were just OK. Some bunkers weren't raked after rain from the day before. Green speeds were nice, stimping around 10-12. Fairways were good.
Overall, this used to be one of the best in the Birmingham area and well worth the drive. A real treat.
No longer. It appears they are having financial troubles and cutting basic amenities. While you can get on M-F for about $50, that's what it's worth. No longer worth the 45 min to hour drive.
Hello Tim,
I saw your review and wanted to reach out. Thanks for playing at Limestone and for taking the time to comment. We bought the course from Honours Golf right around the time when you played, so you may have come out while the course was changing hands. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. We have settled in at Limestone and feel that the experience has improved in the last few months. We have a new Superintendent and General Manager who have been working hard on the course and the staff. We would love for you to come give us another try.

Great Course
First time to Limestone, loved the course!! Beautiful layout in the mountains, part of a very nice planned community. Jerry Pate carved out a spectacular course, with lots of rolling hills, elevated tee boxes along with numerous lakes and mountain streams. Course conditions outstanding in general. Fairways like carpet, greens were fast and rolled true. There were several small areas around lots of greens that were missing grass from the winter kill, common problem in this region from the cold winter.
Overall, great experience and super golf course, would play this one again.
A keeper near Birmingham
Admittedly, this review will be sparse on information. I last played Limestone Springs on a media bus tour through Alabama. We only had time for nine holes, but that loop left me wanting more. That trip opened my eyes to the beauty of Alabama's rolling hills. (My previous Alabama golf experiences were at Magnolia Grove and Muscle Shoals, two of the flatter courses along the RTJ Trail). I hope to make it back to finish my tour and get a better appreciation of what is consistently ranked one of the top public courses in the state.
Good course
Very good, fast greens, receptive on approach shots. Tee boxes and fairways good. At $94 regular for green fee and cart is over priced. After 2:00 it's $59 which is where it should be.
Good course
Tee boxes and fairways are good, greens were excellent, super fast and receptive to approach shots. Scenic holes. At $94 green fee and cart, it's overpriced, twilight starts at 2:00 and rate drops to $59, which is about right.
Solid, but didn't live up to the hype...
Positives - Good experience, and some of the most scenic golf I've played. Great layout, great greens, friendly staff, solid manicuring.
Negatives - for the prices/rates I expect a tight ship and a first class golf experience. Tee times don't exist I guess...as the same time we were supposed to tee off, a 5-some was at the box at the same time. The practice area is sub par (chopped up turf, small putting green, chipping area was a long way away and not maintained). Empty water coolers on the course. Lots of unrepaired divots on the greens.
My overall advice would be to play a twilight rate or grab a cheap Golfnow tee time. Don't want my review to scare people away, but to lower the hype of it being one of the top public tracks in the state. It's worth a play if you're nearby, but def not worth the $94 regular rate.
Perfect
Very fun course to play. Greens were nearly flawless and were fast and smooth. Beautiful piece of property I wish was closer to civilization. Staff was quick and helpful getting us out. Will definitely plan a return trip.
Wonderful course and surroundings....not quite what it used to be.
Everyone should try Limestone Springs. The course layout and the surroundings can't be beat. Although, I must say after having not played the course since 2010, I was sad to admit the course isn't as pristine as it once was. Several greens have burns around the edges, along with multiple patch jobs on greens and throughout. From tee, to fairway, to green, the course is still quite nice. Let's put it this way, I'd happily play there every day - but it's a fact the course appears to be diminishing.
Beautiful course that's seen better days and needs some updating of fairly simple things
There are almost no distance markers on the course. We spent most of our time trying to assess how far we were from various points. The course is overpriced for its current state and needs some improvements to warrant the cost. Still one of the most beautiful and fun venues around.
Great course! Great condition!
Challenging course that is very fun to play. Played it a few times and greens have always been challenging and pretty quick. The staff seems to work hard to keep course in good condition. Also located in a peaceful, serene setting. Highly recommended!
rmoore,
Thanks for taking the time to leave such a nice review. We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you at the course sometime soon.
