Heron Lakes Golf Club - Greenback Course
About
Heron Lakes Golf Club is home to two championship courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, the Great Blue Course and the Greenback Course. Both utilize the rugged natural terrain in different ways, offering challenges that will appeal to both low and high handicappers. The Greenback Course is a versatile parkland layout that is gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. It is a less demanding design than the Great Blue but it still has plenty of challenges in store. There are 86 bunkers framing the elevated greens and six ponds come into play throughout however the mature trees present the most prominent threat. The par 3s on this golf course can be especially tough. The more challenging elements are nicely balanced by large, inviting greens and generous landing areas.

Greens are in great shape!
Course was in great shape. Exspecially the greens. Great week day value for sure.
Very Muddy
I played a Greenback on February 21, 2024. I would not recommend playing this course in any seasons except for summer. The course is very wet and muddy. Every steps is stepping on muddy and get my shoes and push cart muddy. Tried to stay on the cart path but it was wet with standing water, it needs to be re-paved. There was potholes and standing waters. Overall, it needs better maintenance.
Good shape given the time of year
Course was in good shape give the very wet month prior. Greens were even and fast, fairways in pretty good shape, not too soggy. Bunkers were hard packed with some standing water, but that’s to be expected given the time of year and amount of rain. Played 18 in 3:10.
Too soggy for good play
But excellent you are a mudder. Love the course but it is over saturated right now. Trish behind the desk in the club house is a gem! Nice to see both male and female staff.
Great Muni
Play there a lot great course. Good conditions for late November
Good time
The course was in good shape not to wet well drained. I have played this course a lot and still find it challenging. It's a must play.
Good day considering
Considering the greens being recently punched, the course was in condition. Pace of play was good in the AM. I appreciate this course and it’s variety of holes.
Fun . Classic Parkland Layout
Showed up as a single. Pared with a fun group of regulars. Couse is interesting . Recommend
Sand on the par 3's
The pars threes are in very poor shape with out any sand.
#7 is probably the worst par 3 I have seen in the area
