#9 green, right in front of the clubhouse was by far the best conditioned of the day! Photo submitted by u547358672 on 03/15/2023

Awesome South Austin location.....great layout.
Have played a number of times , but first since taken over by city. Still very nice facilities and amenities. Multiple dogleg holes, some fairly short, mainly treelined fairways, but a few holes open up. Club selection and course management very important. Greens and fairways in excellent shape. 4 sets of tees for all skill levels.
Solid Course
Course is great. Well laid-out. Lots of bunkers. Pretty.
Greens weren't in good shape b/c they aerated them recently but they were up front about it at booking and was a reduced fee. They've gotta maintain their stuff, and tip the hat that they were honest about it. It was a great value at $60, which is I think $20 off what usual charge is.
Very friendly staff and fellow players. Seemed a little slow but was still done in under 4:30, which ain't too bad.
Pretty, fun, challenging course. Perfect for a Sunday morning 18. Will definitely be back.
pleasantly surprised.
I used to play Grey Rock back when it was Circle C....a long time ago. It has been taken over by the city of Austin but is a jewel compared to some of the other local courses. In the dead of summer in Austin, tx you can expect some shaky turf conditions but Grey
Rock must have hired a top-notch greenskeeper since I have last been there. The greens putted moderately fast and true, the fairways were very green and trim, and the bermuda rough should, by all means, be avoided. This is a real course. I will be teeing off there a lot more in the future.
Course was in good condition. Only draw back was one of the holes was closed for repairs.
Great Course
Course is in great shape albeit a bit dry with the recent 100 degree days
Love this course
Filled in 18th Hole at 200pm with no warning
The club house was having a fourth of july event in the evening. Staff filled in the last hole (9) before our group finished. I was playing with two members who were convincing me it was a great place to join. Unfortunately they ruined the round, not just by filling in the hole, but when speaking to a young man with guest services he made it clear that my customer experience was not as important as the 4000 customers who would be there tonight. Not the way members or first time visitors want to be treated. Probably not business as usual, but I would love to play again if they show they care about golfers experiences.
Great Shape
The course is kept in great shape. Beautiful conditions out there. Greens are hard and fast and the pin position was pretty difficult on the day but this course is well maintained
Beautiful course
Better than most munys but a bit pricey unless using Hot Deals.
First Time Playing Grey Rock
This was my first round at Grey Rock. The course is in great shape overall. However, the greens are still coming in from the winter so they do have a bit of sand from course management. Not enough to give the course a lower rating. Overall would play again in a couple of weeks to see how they improve.
1st time playing Greyrock
I'm a 2 handicap. I had never played Greyrock before and saw on golfnow that it was $28 to play.
I was greeted in the parking lot with a cart which was unusual, but much appreciated.
The only complaint I would have is that they just sanded the greens the day before. However, even with the sand on the greens the course was an excellent shape.
One strange feature about Greyrock is the First Tee is about three-quarters of a mile away from the clubhouse. Because of that it would be a really tough course to walk in my opinion. But I guess if you got a ride with someone to The First Tee It would be decent from there.
I played from the gold tees, which measure a little over 6900 yards. The course has plenty of room in the fairways. One thing nice is that there are very few houses on this course especially the back side there are no houses.
I definitely plan on going back when the greens are not sanded, very good deal.
Still Circle C to me
Same as the last time I played it. Great course, just needs pristine greens to be top notch.
What's with the greens?
First of all, I love the track. Few holes are just straight forward and each hole has a unique challenge whether it's long, short, left, or right. The service staff is very friendly and the cart service is always exceptional. Only a few things concerned me with my last visit. First was the horrendous condition of the greens. I understand aerification is important, but I didn't understand the 4-5 foot sand patches all over several greens. Also, any time there are weeds growing on the greens of a course this caliber it's disappointing. Next, we were behind several groups of four on the standard 4:10 pace and no golfer should have a problem with this on a busy day. So when I get hit onto while on the green 2 separate times, please kick the foursome in jeans and tee-shirts off the course. But apparently several complaints to the marshal isn't enough to get the situation handled. If you want the best muni golf in Austin, go to Roy Kizer. It has smooth greens, challenging play, and good people.
Reasonable rates
Greens were top dressed which detracted from the course. Fairways in good shape although starting to dry out. Snakes were out, though, so balls amidst trees were left to rot. Overall made me more conscious of what can be found even for a course with few water hazards.
Good design but greens are struggling
Played Grey Rock for the first time. When arriving the first area you walk past is the putting green. It looks Ok from a distance but dropping balls down it is clear the greens are ruff. It is early in the growing season so they may come back. On the course they are playable but overall not real good. The course design is done well and a real pleasure to feel like you are out in the country even though you are in Austin proper. I would definitely go back but would need to be assured the greens were in much better shape.
Greyrock
I was disappointed in the condition of the course. The greens were horrible on the front nine, but a little better on the back nine. All in all not a good value for the money they are asking.
Underwhelming for the money and poor maintenance
I had high hopes for the course since I just moved close to it, but for the price I expected much more. The greens were half sand and patchy all over the place. It felt like I was playing more of a $20 course compared to the $70 charged for the round. The carts are old, and mine barely made it 9 before dying. The course has the potential to be something nice with the layout and landscape surrounding it, but maintenance is definitely lacking. Hoping it improves as time goes on. I will give it another shot in a few months.
