#9 green, right in front of the clubhouse was by far the best conditioned of the day! Photo submitted by u547358672 on 03/15/2023

Quality course
I played Grey Rock for the first time on 07/24/2016. The course was in great condition considering the normal Texas heat we have been experiencing. With that being said, the only issue my group had with Grey Rock was the lukewarm water in the coolers positioned throughout the course. Coolers with ice would be welcomed since there was no beverage cart during our play on the weekend. I look forward to playing Grey Rock in the future!
Great conditions and great course
One of the top courses I've played in Austin. Great course with fantastic off course amenities. Loved it
Great Course, Kinda Expensive
I had been wanting to play this course ever since it was announced that the city bought it to replace Lions. Unfortunately it is much more expensive to play than Lions, I did get a good deal off of GolfNow though but I would not pay full price to play here but it is much better than Lions. Course was in great shape and fun to play. My only negative experience was the starter who proceeded to chew me out because my buddy was late and we started about 5 minutes past our tee time. Also, we only saw the drink cart once but the rest of the staff was really friendly and the 19th hole is great with several beers on tap!
Poor conditions for the price
Played Grey Rock early on a Saturday morning. The pace of place was slower than I prefer- 4:30-4:45 for 18 holes.
The good- one of the few courses where hitting the fairway was a benefit. The rough was a 1/2-3/4 shot penalty, as it should be. Also, the traps had sand. A rarity on most public courses.
The bad- the greens were poor. Green speed was slow with several having significant areas with little or no grass. Shots into the green wouldn't hold. Never saw a pitch mark.
At the price being charged to play there, course conditioning was not where it needs to be. I won't be playing this course again.
Greens in BAD shape...
I love this course...Having said that, The greens and in very bad shape. It is impossible to put. Number 8 green is all sand. Its time to close that green and grow some grass.
This course is a good, fair course
Good layout, greens and fairways in great shape with all the rain. If you are hitting them good then you can score on this course. Trees on both sides of most holes but the fairways are reasonable. Not a lot of water. Fair amount of bunkers but not a lot.
Poor Greens
Got a nice discount but greens had just been punched so they were terrible
Decent
Good course, greens needed some help. nice practice facility, friendly staff, good value.
Pretty good, but not great.
The course has always been pretty consistent and usually in good shape. Rough could be maintained a bit more - too thin in places where a ball that's barely rolling ends up in the trees vs. being at least playable. Main concern is the value - way overpriced when other equal courses in Austin charge $20 less for the same tee time, range balls, etc.
Those Greens Were Tricky!
This is a very nice course, especially considering it is now a City owned track. There are a variety of shots to be played, with (what seemed like) bunkers everywhere. The entire course was in very good shape, and the greens rolled fast and true. About those greens....whomever cut the hole placement today was a sadist. If you missed, your follow up putt may be be ten feet longer than your original putt. All that said, I would play there again in a heartbeat. Oh, I forgot to mention, I hope you like LONG Par 3's, because from the blues or golds....they are not 7 or 8 iron shots.
Beware of the sixsomes
Had a horrible round here because the course allowed sixsome to tee off at 12 noon. Every single one of us behind them was standing on the Teebox for 5 to 10 minutes waiting trying to stay warm and maintain focus. This is a once private course that is now public. It has the conditions and the rate of play like a public course.
Course in great condition
Saved a good amount of $ by reserving this "hot deal" . Course is in great condition, and staff is always very nice and helpful. Probably one of the nicer courses in the greater Austin area. Not a very long course, even from the blue tees. I wish more courses around this area had this type of layout (many dog-legs, and short drive-able par 4 holes), allows one to be more creative in shot selection compared to most courses in area. Hopefully, Grey Rock will eventually lower their greens fees in the near future for non-members, which is the main reason I haven't tee'd it up there more often.
Good course but way overpriced now.
Lots of doglegs. Nothing too tricky. Definitely scoring opportunities although I've never shot well here myself haha. There used to be plenty of 30$ or less tee times. Been three months since I've played because so. If I'm paying 50$ I want a woldancer type experience. Plenty of comparable 20$ and 25$ Tee times around town I hope grey rock starts having some better hot deals to compete.
Good course.great value
Very friendly staff. A good course for a reasonable price. Loved it.
Best Day Ever
Great weather, on a great course, with great friends. It doesn't get much better than that.
Lack of Service
I have played this course in the past and found good deals in the past but this time I felt that the $75 fee was overpriced. Lady at the cash register was rude and not very accommodating. There are many other courses that are the same rate or less and get better service. I will not be coming back to this course anytime soon. Also this course has changed management too man times in the past and that is the sign of instability.
This is what I have ran into almost every time I go here. Rude staff and overpriced green fees
Good value for my Golf Now special
Even in 90 degree weather I enjoyed my round. Greens were a little inconsistent as they had been plugged 10 days ago.
Fun track
In great condition especially given the dry weather, scenery pleasing to the eye.
Not impressed
I don't see what all the hype about this is about. Fairways are in the same condition as 20 dollar city courses. Huge groups of old men slowing the pace down. I'll leave my thoughts on the green condition to myself since they were being treated for winter - I appreciate the price drop of 10 bucks but I would rather know before I get to the course (cough Golfnow cough) that the greens will be covered in sand and full of holes. Overrated course.. Staff seemed to care very little about customers. Too busy playing around.
Great Course
All around great experience! Will definitely play again!
