#9 green, right in front of the clubhouse was by far the best conditioned of the day! Photo submitted by u547358672 on 03/15/2023

Great Place for Hill Country Golf
Overall Grey Rock has a great course and facilities. From tee to green the fairways were lush and smooth with a thick rough making it a priority to hit the low grass. We played from the tips so the course was long, but it was manageable. Averaging 285 off the tee, still gave me a variety of approach distances from sand wedge to 4 iron. The greens rolled true and held perfectly. The layout has a great hill country vibe. Facilities were great as well.
The started told me that the course was in the best shape in the past 20 years. I wouldn't have any thing to negate his point.
Also, there is a video of us play!

Excellent Course. Getting Much Better.
Grey Rock is a great course with a rewarding yet challenging layout. The practice facility's are great and the staff is very kind. The greens have consistently gotten quicker over the past year and the city has improved the conditions greatly. Even the senior players and walkers play quick on this course and everyone is willing to let you through. One of my favorite courses in this area!
Great conditions after all the rain
This is my local course ... and the conditions are tremendous after all the May/June rains the area received. Coupled with the improved conditioning from the city and new course superintendent taking over, and this course is in spectacular shape from where it was just 2 years ago. If they can keep this level of grass and conditions, I will be ecastatic
Grey Rock Golf
For the heat, the course was in good shape and the greens held the ball well. Some were a little slower than others but that was probably due to watering. Fairways were tight and you don't have to bump the ball. The staff was very friendly and the food was great. The golfnow price was hard to beat.
Great day of Golf!
Had a great round of Golf with son! Everything about the course was outstanding.
Beautiful well maintained and challenging course
Beautiful, well maintained course... nice fairways and beautiful, geen, challenging greens.
Other than the lady at the bar, everyone else was friendly.
I will definitely come back
Excellent conditions!
Extremely well maintained - both fairways and greens - much better than other public courses I've played, and some private. Pace of play was 3:30, and we saw no one else the entire time. Sand traps were the best I've been in (and I was in them a lot!) - nice, white, deep sand. Will definitely go back, even though I live in Georgetown and have to fight the Austin traffic to get back! Only negative for me was Pepsi only products.
Close to home
This was one of the best times I've played here. The course looked good.....the best I've seen in years. I've always been unfortunate enough to catch the course right after management had aerated the greens.
Course played really well and with Golfnows' Hotdeal, the course was reasonable.
Dry
considering all the rain we just received, I was surprised to find the fairways so dry. While they were nice and green, there were just a few lies that were really thin.
Also, they must have just punched the greens as there was a lot of sand and small pebbles on the putting surface. It definitely impacted speed and break and it was tough to get a good read.
Overall, not terrible, I have just played it when it was in better condition.
Love the course but pricey.
I love this course but can only afford to rarely play it.
Great course
Great lay out and good condition. I saw some poor reviews. Unless those golfers play at Augusta National, they're comments are unwarranted. I recommend this course and would play again.
very enjoyable round of golf
I typically don't spend $50 on courses (I'm more of a $30 public course kind of golfer) but this was worth the money. Well maintained, professional staff, beautiful course. Would definitely play here again.
Very fun course
I have played Grey Rock 7 times and love this course. Lots of short dog legs that challenge your club selection.
fun, fast round on a Sturday
Grey Rock is a good course, with a beautiful clubhouse. The course was in decent shape, although the greens need some help in areas.
Great course, a must play !!
Total course in super condition for mid-Feb. A very satisfying golf experience and good value for the money. If you are playing golf in Austin, this is a "must play course"
great course!
Great course, great flow of play, great everything!
Fast Greens
Course was in good shape for late January. Pins were ridiculous and greens super fast. That seemed to slow down play a bit.
Great Staff
The staff treated up great! All of the marshalls were extremely friendly and knew the course well. We went off earlier than our tee time and everyone was very accomodating! Will definately be back!
watch the greens...
played out at grey rock this past sunday. the course was running hard and fast, but was in pretty good shape... however, the greens were ridiculous. i've never seen such touchy greens. they must've been near 15 on the stimp meter. in my opinion, there is no place for that kind of green on a public course. it massively slowed down play and generally caused great frustration among the members of the group.
other than that (which is probably just a temporary issue) the course was in good shape and the layout is always fun.
i'll definitely be back, but if you are going sometime near the writing of this review... be warned about the greens. otherwise, it's a great course.
Lighting greens
This is a beautiful golf course. Rolling terrain. Hard to get to in SW Austin. Major weakness - no grass on the greens; therefore, exceptionally fast. Hit many wedge shots onto the green and they would not hold. Very frustrating. Only play in early summer or late fall when there is GRASS. I will NOT paly again. Rolled greens with no grass is not my idea of fun or a test of your skill set.
